High school study - particularly the closer you get to Year 12 - can be a real struggle in terms of time management. There are lots of different things to focus on across lots of different subjects, and sometimes you just need a straightforward, easy, and time-efficient way to study.

That’s where flashcards come in!

There are lots of benefits to studying with flashcards, some of which we’ve outlined in this article. If you’d like to check out ATAR Notes’ growing range of flashcards, click here.

Save precious revision time

Efficiency is one of the biggest benefits of using flashcards, particularly when they’re pre-made. Because the flashcards are clear and succinct, you don’t need to trawl through textbooks to find the most important information on a topic - it’s right there on the card!

"... you don't need to trawl through textbooks to find the most important information..."

Instead of creating your own revision materials, you can simply use the flashcards to test yourself (or each other) and see what you still need to learn - no time wasted trying to work out what to or not to include!

Boost recall skills

The flashcards provide you with prompts and explanations that will assist with recall of information. They can help you make associations and links between different parts of the course, and aid your recall of important facts and information.

The more you use the flashcards, the more likely you are to engage with that information and remember it come exam day!

Break down the syllabus

With flashcards, you can actively focus on specific sections of the syllabus or study design. If clearly demarcated, you could even have different ‘sets’ of flashcards - perfect for a bit of quick revision before a test, or before going to bed.

By focusing on specific parts of the syllabus, you’re breaking down what you need to know into more digestible chunks. This is a good strategy for revision throughout the year; you can gradually test yourself on more sections at a time, until you’re eventually testing yourself on the entire year’s content in the lead-up to exams.

‘Study light’ before exams

Exam season can be really stressful. There may be times where you feel like you want to study, but you don’t want to invest in a full-blown study session. Flashcards are really good for this purpose, because they’re focused, not overwhelming, and can be taken anywhere. You could even do some very final light revision on the way to the exam venue!
