University of Melbourne degrees are a bit different to those at most other Australian universities – in a good way. And so is its Open Day.

Melbourne’s Open Day will take place on the Parkville and Southbank campuses on Sunday 20 August. Here are some highlights to look forward to:

 

SCIENCE GALLERY INTERNATIONAL

This year, the event will feature programming from the acclaimed Science Gallery International, which will soon be embedded at the University of Melbourne.

BLOOD, What’s your type? is a fun, hands on pop-up event that explores the science and sociology of blood type.

In an international blood ‘dating’ game, visitors can have their blood tested on the spot using the Melbourne-born Haemokinesis GLIF testing technique to reveal matches from all over the world.

Pretty neat, huh?

 

FAIR FOOD UNICYCLE

We all know uni students survive on baked beans and tinned spaghetti, right?

Well, not anymore!

The Fair Food Unicycle is a pop-up community kitchen designed to make ‘fair-food’ a reality for students on campus.

It’s a cargo-bike, which in itself is nifty. But the best bit is that it makes fair and sustainable on-campus cooking easier for students – and it provides opportunities for food education, skills development and outreach programs for the broader community.

 

THE MELBOURNE MODEL

Ten years after its launch, the University of Melbourne is also celebrating the success of the Melbourne Model this year.

A first for Australia, the Melbourne Model set the benchmark for world class education.

This Open Day, the University will showcase how the model gives students a wider understanding of the world beyond their degree, allowing them to create their own academic paths, and explore new options along the way.

Few people graduating today will have the same job title forever, and the Melbourne Model ensures students build the right skills to adapt and change successfully for whatever careers await them.

So, on 20 August, learn about the Melbourne Model, and how it helps Melbourne graduates make a real impact in the world.
