Students research relevant content, language and cultural information, in particular that associated with acknowledging other speakers’ points of view, and negotiating and persuading in culturally appropriate ways. They consider the interplay between cultural perspectives and mutual understanding, and focus on language important for effective participation in spoken interactions in Japanese. Students develop their understanding that language choices influence outcomes and impressions created in the exchange. On completion of this unit the student should be able to participate in a spoken exchange in Japanese to resolve a personal issue. To achieve this outcome the student will draw on key knowledge and key skills outlined in Area of Study 1 on page 32 in the VCAA Japanese SL Study Design.
