You’ve been told since childhood that you can be anything you want to be. By ‘anything’, they mean one thing, and by ‘they’, we mean your family, teachers and society at large. Despite what you’ve been led to believe, you don’t need to choose only one thing, and you don’t need to choose it now. Take Issy for example – Issy’s doing study her own way, and with the help of Open Universities Australia (OUA), she’s been able to explore multiple interests to settle on a true passion. If her passion shifts down the track, Issy plans to roll with it, and see what new joys life can bring.
Uncertainty holding you back? Try out a single subject through OUA
One of the best perks, when it comes to OUA, is the availability of single subjects. If you’re not sure what study area to choose, studying a single subject is the perfect solution. You can test out the waters without making a big commitment, and then if you decide to go onto a full degree, you may be able to get credit for what you’ve already studied.
What’s more – when you study through OUA, you have access to the subjects of multiple universities across Australia. So rather than sticking to the offerings of one university, you can mix and match to suit you.
Freedom to explore, even while studying a full degree
When you’ve decided on a full degree, you’ll still have room to move as you discover more about what you enjoy. In studying the Bachelor of Arts (Visual Culture) from Curtin University through OUA, Issy was able to choose some elective subjects in Psychology, and was surprised by how much she enjoyed learning about human behaviour. She eventually transferred into a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences from Swinburne University. Without the flexibility of OUA, Issy may not have discovered that psychology was her best fit.
