It is quite a testament to the quality (or lack thereof) of ACU’s courses that Greg Craven, Vice-Chancellor of ACU, believes that the only thing keeping his university alive are government regulations stopping sandstone universities from offering more places and denying students their first choice.

That is rather sad, but ACU isn't too bad - the people I know there are happy enough.

What's better for primary teaching? ACU or Monash Peninsula??

Considering the incredibly high reputation that all ACU teaching graduates have from members of the profession (and nursing grads too) I think I'm pretty right, thanks. I chose ACU because of it incredibly high rep, the fact I can teach in Catholic schools as well as independent/state schools hence increasing my employment oppurtunities and because of it's prime location.

I'm happy with my choice.

I'd say ACU... they have a pretty good rep when it comes to teaching, whether it's primary or secondary :)

Oh and Amy you did make the right choice, ACU is an awesome uni to study teaching in... I was actually doing that very course in semester 1 this year.... wait are you doing humanities or mathematics major? I did a mathematics major :) Good luck next year ^_^

Awesome! ^_^ Good luck with that, I know a few students who were completing a humanities major [in the same course as you], and they love it so far. Which units do you want to study? Literature? History? Theology? or possibly a minor in Japanese? I don't know much about the humanities side of the course :P

"We have to remember that we are dealing with a surprisingly unsophisticated market. Seventeen-year-olds often approach enrolling in a university in much the same way as they approach buying running shoes: they go for label rather than fit." ACU Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven.

I am just astounded by the smug and arrogant attitude that he displays towards his customer base. I wouldn't be surprised if ACU saw a massive drop in their market share, given such comments.

"I don't think many 'sandstone universities' would go for mass expansion, but they may take the opportunity to use their brand power to crush courses at second-tier universities that they worried were actually better than their own. "This would be bad for the sector and the nation as a whole," Professor Craven said.

How can you crush your competition if your course wasn't in fact the better one? This is exactly the competitive pressure that drives innovation and keeps prices down.
