Text Response Questions With Quotes In Prompt?

How do you respond to a text response question when there's a quote in the question and then they proceed to asking the question? My teacher says we need to incorporate the quote into our response but I'm confused how to do that. It's just, there doesnt seem to be a massive connection between the question and the quote.

It's hard to assist you as I don't know what the prompt is, perhaps insert the prompt below and I can answer your question specifically.

You really need to analyse the quote, break it down.

For example:
The book thief: "I am haunted by humans" discuss why death is haunted by humans and how he shows this within the novel.

First off you need to consider the quote. Read it very carefully. In this certain example the keywords are 'haunted' and 'humans'

Next read what the prompt is specifically asking you to do. In this case I need to explain WHY death is haunted by humans and specifically where in the text this is shown. In order to do this you need to analyse the text. Hopefully you have already read the novel in class and have a good understand of the test in which you are studying. If your still having trouble google the prompt. I've done this quite a few times and I get some sort of answer to my question each time.

If this doesn't work email your teacher for extra help and ask her if she can further explain your prompt.

If you insert your essay prompt I can help you further but unfortunately this is all I can do.
Good luck.

I don't want to put the actual prompt on here, because its the one we're doing for a sac and I don't know if that would be allowed.

Here are two of the practice prompts though (it's from the novel Cloudstreet)

"Day after day Quick feels himself slipping...He's getting hopeless like the Quick Lamb of old".
Quick's character demonstrates it is possible to overcome the burden of guilt and despair. Discuss.

"...you can't help but worry for them, love them, want for them'.
Winton interweaves the stories of the Pickles and the Lambs in a way that elicits the readers empathy. Discuss

I've never read the text but I'll do what I can.

The first prompt: break down the quote and Highlight key words

"Slipping, hopeless"

Next it's asking you to discuss how the character shows his persistence to overcome his strong sense of emotion.

Incorporate the quote into one of your paragraphs and further elaborate. How did he overcome it? Where is this evident? What trigger him to persist? And so on.

I hope this helps and you are able to figure out your SAC with what I have provided for you.

Thank you! That actually helps a lot and clears things up

Do you reckon it's alright to incorporate the quote into just any of the paragraphs? should all the paragraphs somehow reflect it or is it the actual question that we mainly focus on?

Use your quote in the body paragraph where you are specifically describing his pain. You can use the questions I wrote above as a template as to what to discuss and where.
For example;

B1: what was quicks emotional state before he began to recover? (Insert quote)

B2: what does he demonstrate to overcome this burden?

B3: what was his emotional state after all was said and done?

This isn't the best example but hopefully you get the idea.

And if the essay is based around numerous different characters (say it was the second prompt I posted) would I just work the quote into, say, the first paragraph?

I believe so, I don't see why you can't. Just make sure that wherever you choose to use the quote that it's complete relevant to your discussion.
