What did/are you guys do/ing for work experience in year 10?

I don't have much of a clue, but I was thinking maybe something in Monash Uni (as it is close).

I did work experience at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience & Mental Health since I wanted to see how research looked like for neuroscience as I'm interested in neurosurgery (I've only seen the clinical side of things hence turning down other options for work experience like RCH & CSIRO).

Depending on what you enjoy, I think work experience in the science faculties are out/close since JMSS kids had their placements there already (about 80 of us) and we had to apply through our school rather than to the human resources manager themselves at Monash uni... places in Monash Uni which offer work experience at Monash Uni (Clayton) that I know of include:
  • School of Physics
  • School of Biological Sciences
  • School of Chemistry
  • School of Mathematics
  • Centre for Water Sensitive Cities
  • School of Biomedical Science
  • Computer Games Bootcamp (running starting today actually)

Did it at vicroads. Pretty easy to apply they have a system online.
I applied for finance and engineering. The finance was HORRIBLE!
All I did was file stuff. The engineering was good I got to go out to bridges and do civil stuff and talk to this guy who was smoking weed right in my face. It's doesnt sound that good on paper but it was a delightful change to filling.

Royal Childrens Hospital (actually in early year 11 though). One of the most amazing experiences of my life and probably the main factor that made me choose med over actuarial science.

Cheers.

Knox Private Hospital - although they didn't really give me much to see, would've been able to follow and talk to more doctors in a hospital like RCH or something.

Back in the day, I did work experience in the liquidation department of an accounting firm. It was helpful in that it made me realise that I never want to work in an office.

Essentially sat in on a lot of mediations and bankruptcy meetings, schlepped boxes between floors and signed documents. For a week :-\

Oh man, here's what I recall from my experience:

-Had to do this admin stuff, blackening out this guy's name from these reports or something due to confidentiality
-Followed a nutritionist around
-Followed a physiotherapist around
-Was in the cardio department
-Went around the wards for several times with some nurses and doctors

Yeah, that's all I remember from mine really

Haha, sounds a bit like aspects of my Rural Placement this year :P Those different aspects are really important though, and I kinda wish I got to see more of that in RCH (only disappointment although I did get a day in pathology which was different). The healthcare team as a whole is how hospitals work and seeing their perspective is really insightful :)

Oh yeah, I just remember I was in the Pathology labs for an afternoon too - that was pretty cool stuff, and I got to learn how to use the machines and everything. Definitely a highlight.

The only bad thing about Knox (probably applies to other hospitals too) was that sometimes the nurses and doctors got real busy and would just leave you there for like 30 mins while they sorted everything out.

I also kinda wish I asked more questions about doctors and their experiences of medicine in general lol

Haha that sounds awesome Shenz0r! For mine it was sitting through surgeries of rats (they were giving the rats a stroke [won't go into the other stuff they did with the rats though since it's pretty 'daunting']) LOL
