A strong cohort... Means?

Is it correct to say that a strong cohort would overall lift the standard of one's result in the class?
Sorry I don't think I'm sounding too clear,

Say the class was generally "smart", would that lift the overall standard of marks or what?

A strong cohort does well (median of B+ to A?) in exams compared to most (~90%) other cohorts in the state. Usually these cohorts mark their SACs harshly, hence they are scaled up to match exam performance.

Not entirely sure what the question is, but essentially the stronger the cohort -> the more marks you can afford to lose in SACs.

EDIT: To clarify, if every single person in your cohort achieved a high A+ on the end of year exam, then your ranking would not matter because all your SACs would get scaled up to a high A+ anyway.
