How many jobs have you been employed at?

Never been employed :(
About to start year 12 next year so I'm not going to get a job until after VCE.

Until I googled the word "actuary" just then, I had no idea what an actuary was!
It actually seems like a pretty good job :)
What sort of qualifications would I need for it?
2012 ATAR - 86.75
2013 ATAR - 88.50
2014: BSci (Statistics) at RMIT

You need to be exceptional at maths and dedicated.

If you have never had a job, you may want to know that money is a pretty poor motivator after a certain point. And the more tedious a job gets the more reinforcement required.

to be honest, I think you should find a job that you enjoy the most, a job that you feels good and it suit your talent. We only have one life, why push yourself in a position where you are aiming for having high salary, money isn't everything I am pretty sure there are courses that satisfy your minimum salary while at the same time it is also part of your interest.  If you want to be a miner go for it, of course it is high paid but don't use money as an excuse to make yourself thinking of doing it because when you are finally in that situation you might think to yourself, why did I choose this?

You could try the desalination plant in Wonthaggi. Pay rates there are ridiculously high even for unskilled work. I know a guy who is getting ~$50/hr for planting trees. I know it's not a permanent position but the money might appease you until you come to your senses.

Quoting this for when you realise working isn't just like school. Half the time at a job you'll have to do stuff that isn't particularly engaging and pretend it is. After a while this takes a toll. I've been working the same job for three years now and I have way less enthusiasm than when I started

I'll consider doing this in my GAP year. Thanks!

Money isn't a substitute for happiness. Do something you enjoy and the amount you get paid will ultimately mean nothing to you.

At your age you think about money a lot because there's a lot of stuff you can't buy but really want as you don't even have a part time job. You'll come to realise that you don't need to be filthy rich to get satisfaction and live a comfortable life as you mature and earn only enough money.

You seriously make me laugh, kid.
If you want to make money, go for it.  But trust me, money means freaking nothing if you're not doing something you actually enjoy and love. I know it sounds soooooooo cliche, but it's true =.=

To expand on the plumber, doing a trade for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).  I know a friend who is an electrician and is currently in a base in Afghanistan and he's apparently raking it.

And if you're concerned about safety, "I wouldn't worry too much" he once said.  "The Taliban has got to have lots of balls to go head on at an Australian army base."

You do realize money is not the key to happiness right? If your able to get an ATAR of above 90+, there are a lot of professional career options that pay enough to live without financial stress. And of course jobs that have no need for degrees like plumbers etc. So find something you would enjoy at least to some degree.
I'm not sure if anyone has asked this, but why do you want so much money?

You need dedication and passion for mathematics and for the career in general, if you're only looking at money you definitely won't make it far in the actuary field.
