Debating Dinner, 2010.
Parents, principal and students there. My debating coach and debating vice captain asked me whether I wanted to do the Loyal Toast. Having no idea what it was and excited to take part in the running of the night, I agreed.
I went up and did the loyal toast. When I said "the Queen," everyone froze. I was like "did I mess it up or...?"
My teammates were pissing themselves laughing in the background. I slowly and erectly walked back to my seat, bewildered.
Turns out that the Loyal Toast was actually a massive insult, especially to our librarian who was a hard-line left-winger. My teammates were like "Mrs B is so pissed off...!" and I was like "but what did I do wrong?" to which they were like "hhaha nothing you did it perfectly."
Mrs B came to me, red faced and was like "I don't know what you were playing at..." and then I interrupted -
"What's the Loyal Toast?"
"OH! You don't know what it is?" She explains it all to me.
Turns out that I was duped by my debating coach and vice captain.
