Applying for SEAS due to socio-economic reasons

Would VTAC accept/reject an application for SEAS if someone is from a poor family, where both parents unemployed etc?

I know the main reason people apply is for medical, but socio-economic is another category you can apply for, im not sure exactly what is needed

As I was told when I applied, if you're in doubt just file the application and let them decide (my circumstances were pretty black and white though, but still). There's no way they'll reject your application out of hand, they may just consider it to have had a minimal impact.

As for what's needed, you have to provide a statement that outlines how you were adversely affected so that your situation can be judged.

Do you find out if your application was rejected or accepted? Or do they just chuck it in the bin if its reject, and if accepted they'll send to your Uni and let them deal with it

I don't remember being specifically told about the success or failure, but I'm pretty sure that VTAC doesn't reject them. They just pass them onto the uni and let them decide which ones to accept/to what degree it's relevant.

Ahh ok, so pretty much no loss in handing in an application, it can only benefit you

My school asks basically everyone to apply. It fucks up the system, those who are really affected are put up against those who are applying for the sake of it and dont always 'win', but I guess you may aswell.

If you're receiving Centrelink payments, then definitely apply - whether or not that would be Family Tax Benefit, Youth Allowance, ABSTUDY etc.  If you are applying for SEAS, you would apply for Category 5: Disadvantaged socio-economic background.  Also, if you are submitting Centrelink payments as hard copy evidence you will need to have them certified for them to be accepted by VTAC.

When you have paid VTAC and submitted your preferences then the SEAS application form will be available to you on MyInfo.
