       Hi all -
So I noticed that no ones really posted anything for the 2011 classics class, is anyone out there doing it?
If so what texts are you doing?
I hope I'm not the only one  :(

My list 1 texts are: The Illiad book 6 and Oedipus the king
List 2: Heroduts+Thucydides, Medea+Agamemnon
2011: classics, lit, chinese, studio
2012: international studies @ RMIT

sigh...I miss Classics. It's the best subject by far...plus, the coolest people do it.

If it's anything, my school does the same texts as you except our second comparative is Aeneid Book 12 and Iliad Book 22.

Good luck!!! (pm me for help if you need it...I think did okay ;) )

I did classics in 2010 with the exact same texts! Classics rocks!
I hope you enjoy it this year. The texts are really interesting and well worth studying. Good Luck!

Thanks! I did unit 2 last year and it rapidly became my favourite subject (I had an awesome teacher as well), so I'm really looking forward to it this year - however when I flicked through Herodotus+Thucydides (I can't be bothered writing the full names) they seemed quite dry and long, I'm a bit worried about being able to understand all the concepts within them both - I'll have to wait and see what happens. I guess I'll find out this Monday :)

Herodotus is actually really readable. The book is full of entertaining stories and weird crap. Thucydides is a bit drier though. I read all of Herodotus but I only read a few chapters of Thucydides, basically just the first part where he explains what he's doing and the chapters that the assigned sections are in. That seemed to be enough to understand it.

Yeah Thucydides is pretty boring, even if technically speaking he's the better historian.  You have some noice choices with all the other texts though!

I flicked through herodotus today again and it does seem easier to read than Thucydides - I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds him a tad boring (especially from people who seemed to have done so well!)

Hey guys,
i'm thinking of doing Classical studies next year by distance! Does anyone know what the workload is like (is it hard/medium or easy) and is it hard to get a good study score in it?

Cheers,
Liv :)

I've been doing Classics by distance ed and I love it! The texts are really interesting and I've been going pretty well despite not having an actual class to attend. My only warning/advice would be to make sure you don't fall behind! I did when I was doing Agamemnon+Medea and totally stuffed up the sac. It can be kinda hard to keep motivated but easy to get back on track after a while. Hope that helped! :)
