Hey guys, long time lurker. I've noticed VCE Physics has quite a dull and boring reputation and isn't liked amongst most students (hence my 3/4 class having 5 students) whereas it is easily my favourite subject and is very fun, what do you guys think of the subject overall?

Can't say for VCE but as a student in the HSC Physics course and heavily inclined to drop the subject I feel like most people are overwhelmed at the complexity of Physics. It generally comes off as a very daunting, sophisticated and mathematical subject which many may despise.

As a person who's been in the course for a year I just can't seem to understand it properly. I find it rather hard to grasp many of the concepts presented and the overwhelming formulas very discouraging (I say this but at the same time I'm taking Ext 2 Maths so Idk what's up with me).

You may find it likable and that's fantastic But it's down to personal preference. Many are turned off by the negative connotations of the subject (many of my friends were). It's a great subject nevertheless and I do enjoy many aspects of it. Currently doing Relativity and the theories behind it are quite mind blowing

You bring up some very good points! In the end it is all down to personal preference like you said.

 Just thinking about relativity gives me a headache, definitely one of the most difficult concepts I've had to learn for sure!

That's because that IS difficult and I've virtually forgotten how to do it

We've only been introduced to it during the orientation week, dreading next year when it pops up.

 Just thinking about relativity gives me a headache, definitely one of the most difficult concepts I've had to learn for sure! 

A perk to Physics is you can go into the playground and just kinda rant about Relativity and sound smart to other people :^)

That aside I like Physics but I find it a bit too demanding, the workload combined with 4u maths will murder me so I'm probably going to drop it. That said though, anyone who wants to do Physics but is turned off by the workload etc should still give it a shot because you can always drop it and it's a pretty interesting subject

For me personally, I love Physics, just not VCE Physics. I think that there is an overlap between many aspects of Physics and Biology/Chemistry, and that's the part I love. But I found the topics in unit 3/4 Physics quite dull. I think if its taught properly, it would be more enjoyable. Understanding all the concepts makes it enjoyable too - not simply rote learning formulas, etc. It was my least favourite subject, but I'm glad I did it for one reason - GAMSAT haha!

I have noticed that the majority of the work has been just plugging formulas but i somehow look past that haha

Yeah it is a bit of plugging into formulas, but I prefer it over Chemistry and English any day of the week! Just the concepts to real life applications make it all the more interesting and there's just a whole lot more to it in your mind then just the recipe formulas.

For sure. You can begin to see and appreciate how certain things just...kinda work Can't comment on other Sciences as I only do Physics atm but it's challenging but definitely interesting.

Yeah! Through Physics i've understood how things work, like the loop the loop with a bike for instance. Much rather it over chemistry

I absolutely loved VCE physics and it easily made my year 100x better. But I have to stress that I had a brilliant teacher - hence the quote. If taught properly, VCE physics could be the most awe-inspiring, enjoyable subject you'll ever do! However, if you have a dull teacher, combined with a shitty textbook I can easily see it being un-enjoyable.

But yeah, in my experience, and also with HLS, VCE physics has by far been the most enjoyable subject out of all.
