A Stresshead's VCE Journey :)

Hey to everyone who ends up reading this!!

I've been reading a lot of other people's VCE journal's and decided I'd do one too. It seems like a good way to look back on my thoughts, feelings and times during VCE years, so I thought why not give it a go!

I'm currently in Year 10, doing 2 VCE unit 1&2 subjects, which are biology and Math Methods. I'm trying to decide my subjects to do for next year, with only a week left to decide. EEK! I'm thinking of doing eng language, chemistry, biology 3&4, specialist maths and Physical Education (PE). I also need one more subject but I can't seem to decide what to do with it being between japanese, accounting, physics and psychology. None of these I desperately want to do, but I can't seem to think of any more options.

Anyway a bit of random info about me:
I procrastinate so much, it's becoming a problem. I put off my homework and by the time I look at the clock its already like 11pm!
I'm doing online school/remote learning at the moment because corona has shut down all schools and probably for the rest of the term too! (Obviously you all know this, just putting it in for when I eventually look back at this). I enjoy science, maths and sport. They would 100% be my top subjects at school, hence why they're in my VCE subjects

Upcoming Assessments:
- Biology Unit 2 AOS 1 Test: This is in a week. I'm a bit stressed out because I probably should've started studying sooner. I've only made it half way through Q Cards and I need to do practice questions still!
- Biology SAC: About half way done. Going to try finish tomorrow even if it is a bit boring, but still need to do it :)
- Japanese Writing: Tbh I don't even know what this is on, but its also in a week. I missed the lesson where it was explained, so slight issue there. I'm going to try study a bit over the weekend, but let's be honest here, that probably won't end up happening. WHoops!

Thanks for reading if you're still here!

Hello and welcome to the journals !!

Re subjects next year: Just be aware that I'm pretty sure you have to complete methods 3/4 either alongside or before specialist maths 3/4. We are doing pretty similar subjects and interests (I love sport, science and maths too! Do you play any sports?) and I hope you enjoy them your VCE subjects next year :)

Don't worry about procrastinating too much, you are only in year 10 and in the world we are living in right now we all need a break.

Hii and thank you!

I accelerated in Math Methods unit 1 & 2 this year, so my school allows me to only complete specialists unit 1 & 2 next year. They don't want us to repeat methods and potentially lose another subject we could've enjoyed. However, we do have to do both methods 3/4 and specialist 3/4 together in year 12.
I do taekwondo and volleyball. What subjects are you doing right now and do you play any sports? That's true, I just stress more than I should. Hopefully doing this journal will calm me down a bit ahaha ;D

Oh that makes sense sorry! Just wondering, does your school not allow you to take methods 3/4 in year 11?

I am in year 11 and the subjects I am doing right now is Maths Methods 3/4 (I did 1/2 early in year 10), Further Maths 3/4 (picked this up without the 1/2), English Language 1/2, Chemistry 1/2 and French 1/2. Next year I plan on doing English Language 3/4, Chemistry 3/4, French 3/4 and Physical Education 3/4 :). Outside of school I play netball and do diving but in school I do lots of sports (Cricket, Volleyball, Hockey, Athletics and Swimming). I also did Karate for 6 years.

I can definitely relate with the stressing thing. Something that I find helps is going on walks in nature and listening to some good bops ahaha

What are you most excited for next year? New subjects, co curriculars?

Hi Eloise,
No unfortunately my school doesn't allow us to do methods 3/4 in year 11. They said that it just didn't work well, and didn't really give us an explanation. A couple of us actually wanted to sit the class unofficially, so we'd have a good understanding of methods 3/4, but that wasn't allowed either. So for now, I'm just doing specialist maths next year. How is methods and further 3/4 going for you?
Yes I agree, finding time away from studying and school is so important. That's why I like sport too, its such a good way to de-stress while enjoying it too.
I definitely excited to go back to school, I'm sick of sitting at my desk all day and I miss my friends. I can't wait for the athletics carnival as ours got cancelled this year. I love this day and doing lots of events, even if I don't win its so much fun. I'm also excited to continue our school volleyball team as I was part of that before our training sessions were cancelled :-\ What about you? Are you excited for year 12 next year? I can't believe how fast high school as gone, I know the next 2 and half years will fly by.

Hi Rose  ;D
It's great that you are doing 2 VCE subjects and still managing a work-life balance! Bio is an amazing subject and I'm so glad that you're doing it. What is your favourite topic in Bio and what are you looking forward to for 3/4?

Heyy :),
I wouldn't say I necessarily have a favourite topic at the moment. But I'm really interested in the mutation side of mitosis that could potentially develop into cancer. I haven't looked much into unit 3/4 yet oops, so I'll definitely have to look more into it!

Methods and Further are going pretty well for me :) We have finished the content for further so its just getting started on practice exams now which is super exciting. I like further a lot because the concepts are simple which is a break from my more challenging subjects (methods, chem, french). Methods is also going ok but its a bit hard at the moment remote as it is a class for me that I need to be in irl. We are pretty close to finishing the content (YAY FINALLY) and then I want to make a dent into the HUGE amount of practice exams I have. Overall they are both pretty enjoyable classes 8)

I am super excited to hopefully get back into sport as I have played anything since September last year due to a shoulder injury and having to get surgery. I am most excited for hopefully leading my Diving team for the last time and the last house events. It's sad that so much got cancelled this year but we did have our House Aths and Swimming which was nice considering they are my favourite events and I was House Sports Captain. I cannot believe I am going to be in Year 12 next year. It feels so surreal that I am closer to graduating than starting Year 10 which felt like yesterday. It will definitely be bittersweet for me because I love my school and all of my friends so much  :'(

I wish you well for the rest of Term 3. We are past the half way mark (at least my school is haha) !!

Hey everyone, just me again!

Not much has happened since I last did one of these posts, but then again its only been a week. I haven't found online learning too bad lately, but I would definitely prefer to be at school. And lockdown might be extended too! I can't wait until life is normal again. Some of my friends and I called last week for about 7 hours, just a tad extreme. Although, I didn't stay on the entire time because I had other things to do. But it was so good to talk to everyone again, especially since messaging just isn't the same. I also did one of those letters, where you write to yourself and it gets emailed to you in the future. I'll get mine next year on my birthday. It actually helped me reflect a lot on this year and everything going on in my life. I recommend :)

My subject selections are also due tomorrow and I still haven't made up my mind yet. Ah stressful! I only need 1 more subject as well! My current choices are Eng Lang, bio 3/4, chem, spec maths and PE. I think I'm either going to continue doing Japanese or try accounting. Does anyone know anything about those??

I got my methods 1/2 sac and test results back yesterday. I'm so happy with how I went! Hopefully I'll can keep it up ;D I also had my biology aos1 test today. I found it quite hard tbh, but hopefully i still went okay. I answered all the questions so yay!

Thanks for reading :)
