Ok, so graduating class of 2020.
First Yr 12 cohort in Qld to do ATAR
I do Specialist Math, Bio, Chem, Physics, Math methods and English.
I think I’m just going to try and document the work I have done as I complete it on here.

Monday 27th April
Currently everyone is in lockdown and school r shut.
So everyone Is facing motivation issues.

Which isnt great cause I have IA2 assessments due really soon.
Finals for Physics due Thursday and bio due Friday. Part of chem due Friday as well sort of like a checkpoint.
So I have A lottttttt of work to get done in 3 - 4 days

Hey,

Welcome to the forums!

That's a very similar subject mix to what I had (bio, chem, physics, psych, methods, english language - my school didn't offer spec :( )

Do you particularly like science or was there a different reason for your subject selection?

Is your school having virtual classes or is it more "here's the work figure it out yourself" style?

How were you finding your subjects before the change to remote learning?

if you ever want a hand with science stuff let me know :)

Good luck with your QCE journey! I hope you get that work done to a standard you're happy with :)

Hi,

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I actually do like science and also hope these subjects might help boost my ATAR for med.
But I feel like it is a lot of stress and sometimes doubt my choices and wonder if it would have been better to choose easier subjects, like at least one.
But I am a massive procrastinator, which increases the stress.

We have a mix of online classes and just doing the work at home.
There are online meetings with the class and teachers for questions about the given tasks or examples of how to do questions (math) and teachers also make videos explain the content.

I feel like I am find the subjects the same before remote learning, just now there isn’t a quick fast way of asking about certain questions one on one. Like arranging a meeting for a time suitable for another student and the teacher, whereas at school you could just ask a quick question during class.

Thank you so much for offering help, will definitely let you know if I come into strife with science.

Update : Mon 4 May - Labour Day Holiday

It was announced that school might reopen for certain grades next week.

I handed in Finals for physics and bio, don’t think it was the best that I could do but I guess it is done. Handed in methods, English and specialist homework.
I still have to complete part of chem assignment and physics work.

Luckily I don’t have official due dates ( drafts or finals ) till 2 weeks, which is such a relief.
But there is so much more work to do because of online school.

Friday submissions include;

Bio homework evidence
Chem part of assignment
Physics homework evidence
Methods homework questions
Specialist homework questions
English tasks

And also work on English and chem assignments, throughout the week.

Whereas before online learning there was nothing, other than work on assignments.

Well, I guess I should start.

Hey roses! :)

How are you feeling about the possible reopening of schools?

Also, what is your motivation to study medicine?

Have a great week!

Hi,  :)

Well talking about reopening, I feel like they could have waited a tad bit more longer to reopen, cause if cases start to increase again, it means we have to go back into lockdown. Which would overall take longer than if we kept everything closed for a bit more longer.

But since that is the decision, I feel like it would benefit yr 12s in terms of going back to normal and learning all the content needed, as no content will be cut out of the final exams.

I feel like since I was small the idea of becoming a doctor has always intrigued me and I feel like no other jobs have. It would be a way to directly help people and would be an ever-changing environment and in different scenarios each day. I feel like it wouldnt be something u would ever want to change out of. I also like the idea of constantly learning new things and just the human body never fails to amaze me. But I haven’t really told many people that I wanna do med, cause I feel like I wouldn’t get it. And a lot of people I know, keep telling me that they have great expectations for my ATAR, which Kinda puts a lot of pressure on u .but like now I feel like I’ve been burned out for quite a while, to the point where I don’t care, but I really do, which definitely isn’t great. And I have only done like a tiny bit of prep for ucat.
Is anyone else prepping for ucat this year? Anyone have any tips ?

Also I feel like I work best under pressure so I procrastinate till I am under pressure. So I tried this thing where u move ur deadline and make them earlier. But I’m finding that hard to stick to cause I know they aren’t due then. And also with quarantine, it doesn’t help with motivation. Something that does work though, is like staying on a call with like your friends, while u do ur work. So like u don’t feel alone and feel motivated to actually get stuff done and won’t procrastinate.

So yeah,
Still need to do chem and physics which I should have started like 2 hrs ago. Ooops.

Hi roses!
Just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one feeling this way, I can very much relate to everything you've said from the expectations to procrastination habits. At least we're trying to better ourselves by testing out new strategies that may help :)

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. That’s nice to remind myself that I’m not the only one and that we are trying to improve.
I asked like 15 friends, how they were feeling at that moment and there was only one person who was super motivated and felt productive. And all the others could relate to not being motivated.
So if you are reading this, then know you aren’t the only one feeling the lack of motivation because of the lockdown.

I guess people will have expectations, but what I want to do, is just give it my best. And if it isn’t great, then guess technically it isn’t my fault.

Thought I was the only one who had this exact opinion, nice to know I'm not Iso on this. In an ideal reality, I think only Year 12s should be given the opportunity to be back at school, with at least some form of face masks supplied.

I also understand why they would like to bring back certain grades to school

As Qld Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk said, Kindy, Prep, Yr 1, 11 and 12 were the first grades to return because “these are the children who are at the most important junctures of schooling – the beginning and the end of their educational journey”.

But I feel like it may have been a tad bit too soon.

Update : Mon 8 June

All grades are back at school.
I won’t have to do any school assignments ever!!!!AMAZINGGG!!!
I am just so relieved that all of it is out of the way. Now 8 exams left.
I still have IA3 exams for methods and specialist, and my external exams.
For English external, we are doing Macbeth, and we can’t even take the play into the exam.
So I guess we gotta memorise many quotes. Great.
And I still haven’t started prep for UCAT. anyone doing it this July ?
I also have quite a lot of school work that I have to catch up on.

During these challenging times, my Christian faith has helped me so much and I am so thankful. Like I don’t even know how I would have been able to just keep going without God.
Thank you Lord 🙏🙏

School holidays start after next week. YAYAYYYY!!

Also QCAA basically told schools that they only need to do IA2 OR IA3 for each subject, because of COVID-19.
That’s why there was a reduce in assessment.
