JadeRhoden's Journey To A 90+ ATAR

G'day

Officially starting Year 11 on Wednesday!!

Many people say that year 11 doesn't really matter which is true in some regards, I'm planning on putting as much effort into year 11 as I would year 12 so that I can see what my predicted study score would be 'as if I was in Year 12' as I am aiming for a 99.95 which I know is unrealistic but I believe if I aim really high its better than doing Year 12 going 'meh' and getting a 60.

My goals for 2019:
Study 24 hours a week (4 hours per subject)
Get up at 6 am every day (to maximise time in the day)
Exercise every day for the recommended 90 minutes
Aim for A+ on all SAC's and Exams.

In Year 9 and 10 I was averaging C's and D's in English and I really want to change that so I'm going to make sure i work especially hard on that and if you have any advice for me that would be fantastic!

My subjects for 2019 are;
3 & 4 Biology
1 & 2 Business Management
1 & 2 Psychology
1 & 2 English
1 & 2 General Maths
 I am still to choose a sixth subject and am tossing up between Studio Arts and Legal (any advice on choosing would be amazing)

Plans For The Future;
I'm planning on going to university and studying paramedicine or audio engineering or production lighting (sound tech or like live theatre)
Paramedicine is my main focus as I'm already doing production lighting and audio stuff with local theatre and I'm getting work working local music festivals.

Hoping to post weekly :)

I think your first thread is still available here:

https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?topic=182623.msg1088220#msg1088220

Let me know if you'd like for the threads to be merged. :)

As for Studio v. Legal, it's a good question! What do you see to be the pros and cons of each?

In deciding whether to do Studio Arts or Legal Studies;
- studio is 'chill' compared to a content heavy subject
- I've always struggled in arts because it can be so broad (can't choose medium or topic)
- I've always hated learning about the constitution etc etc in earlier classes
- Legal would probably be easier as its 'black and white' like maths...only one answer compared to art where its interpretation etc

Summary:
and my first week is over!
My first week was only a three day week from Wednesday to Friday, however I got loaded with a load of homework and for some reason i feel like i actually have to complete it! I wish I was back in Year 7 when I took being able to do no work for granted!
But I'm glad I've started VCE like now i feel like my schooling is finally getting somewhere!

Classes:
Units 3/4 Biology is SO HARD! Like despite the fact I completed 1/2, 3/4 is just so intense!
Legal Studies...IS SO DRYYYY
BusMan on the other hand - is actually pretty cool
General Maths... gotta be my favourite class! I actually know how to math compared to all my other subjects being toats new
English, I've read and annotated 12 Angry Men and it's actually a really good play! Like definitely relevant to todays society still!
Psych, oh god don't get me started but my 1/2 teacher is absoultly wack - like he legit has no idea what he's doing! He walks into class and is like "um so yep we are gonna look at this and um yep ummmm heres a video and um so" Like he legit gives us no work to do and like he seems permanently confused!!

Work / Social;
I worked 26 hours life guarding this week which is good as - has given me time to not think about school!! And I've got some good mates at work who I can chill with! Plus I'll be making some REAAAL good money this pay day!
I hung out with my best friend and boyfriend after school for a few hours the other day and honestly I feel like suuuch a lousy girlfriend! I've barely seen my boyfriend - only 3 times since the new year :/
Also thinking about taking up ballet as a form of exercise...I've always wanted to become a prefessional ballerina but as my mum was a single teen mum money was a huge issue and i wasn't able to take classes...only now when i'm 16 have we got the disposable income to pay for things like ballet classes... and to be honest I don't know if I want to because i know I'll never be able to do it professionally but should i do it?? I'm still really bitter about the fact I wasn't able to start at a young age and that has affected any future I might have had dancing professionally. Honestly I'm feeling pretty shit about that does anyone know of professional ballerinas that started in their late teens??

Not exactly late teens, but Misty Copeland (first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre) started learning ballet at 13. From the sounds of her wiki page, she had a rough upbringing. Unfortunately, parental support and socio-economic circumstances are dominant factors in pursuing performing arts. In regards to feeling bitter, I empathise with you given that I started pursuing theatre after high school for similar reasons (family issues, socio-economic circumstances and lack of exposure-soccer was far more accessible so that's what I did, was quite good at it and dreamt to becoming a professional soccer player or long distance runner but didn't really happen). Didn't feel bitter towards my upbringing and circumstances but instead towards a system that privileged people that started young. When I started, I focused on playwriting rather than acting or theatre acting (as it's more realistic at that age), and merely took acting classes to understand the process as a writer (thankfully VCA allowed me to take them for free). From there, I took a few theatre-making masterclasses and got really good mentorships which opened up more opportunities. Similar thing happening with uni debating, the majority of people debated for many years in high school and quite a few even represented the state and country. Can't say that I'm near as good as them but being able to go to international majors was one of the most formative things that happened.

Trying to be professional ballerina in the late teens is probably similar to a lot of sports, although it could be slightly easier if you have contemporary dance or gymnastics experience. The socio-economic structures that are pervasive within the performing arts suck, but the barriers made me enjoy and appreciate it even more even more. I believe that various activities can still be enjoyable even you can pursue it at a professional level (may be even more so as it's without pressure). I understand your point that thinking about what could have been could make various pursuits less enjoyable, although I can still say I love watching soccer (and explored options to still play club soccer but can fit it in with my other commitments).

If we ever have kids, we make them alter-versions of ourselves that enrol them is sports/theatre/dance/music programs, hoping that they become what we could've been :p

Wow, that's a pretty great start to the year. Good luck with your SACs! I found that the questions on Bio tests were a lot of fun to work through (like, I found that even if I had no idea how to answer something, I could throw ideas out there and get marks as long as I justified them) so I hope you'll enjoy units 3/4.

my boyfriend tuned up at my house at half past 9 with a rose and chocolate 😍

That's so cute! Keep him ;D

Setting Goals:

Goal 1: 90+ ATAR
   - 90% on all 3 & 4 SAC's and Exams

   - 15 practice Exams per subject (30 if the subject has 2 Exams)
   - Study 6 hours per 3 & 4 subject per week
- Study 4 hours per 1 & 2 subject per week
I will know I'm on my way to my goal when all those things are being done and when I get my ATAR on the 14th of December 2020

Goal 2: 4.0 GPA
   - Attend ALL classes
   - Complete all work BEFORE due date
   - Participate in class discussions
   - Study 4 hours per subject per week
I will know I've completed my goal when Term 2 interim reports are posted June 28th 2019

Goal 3: Raw 40 Biology Study Score
   - 90% on all SACís/Exams
   - Work through ALL Cambridge Checkpoint Questions
   - Do 20 practice Exams
- Study 6 hours per 3 & 4 subject per week
I will know I'm on my way to my goal when all those things are being done and when I get my study score on the 14th of December 2019

Goal 4: Get My Life In Order
(Be on top of everything in my life)
   - Follow a routine everyday
   - Read everyday
   - Exercise, run, meditate and do yoga daily
   - Do all my chores and keep room neat asf
I will know I've completed my goal when those things have become habit and are done EVERYDAY without fail

EDIT: Somehow missed one of my goal when copying and pasting from sticky notes & added dates to make them more SMART  8)
