I don't know what you're talking about. ;) Nah, thanks - fixed!

How does ANU work in terms of campuses? Are there multiple, or just the one?

there's one - hence why it's pretty big

How does the culture/vibe of ANU compare to the big Victorian unis?
haven't *really* experienced other Vic unis that much except like going to UoM/Monash with my high school and also studied at Monash libraries a couple of times. I feel that at ANU there is less people though...probably because it's so big? Idk haha

There also isn't as much good food at ANU compared to UoM/Monash tho :/ (but that might change when construction's done!)

*pops head in*

How does the culture/vibe of ANU compare to the big Victorian unis?

How I describe it to friends is that feels like the middle of UniMelb and Monash, where it's not quite as busy as UniMelb being in Parkville and the city, but not as quiet as Monash being out in Clayton. And as strawberries said, the range of food outlets isn't that large in the Pop-Up, although that's probably semi-good for me as I'm not spending a lot buying food from there.

For those at ANU, how are we feeling heading into the second half of the semester next week? Hopefully there isn't anymore flooding, I'm still a bit devastated about what happened to Chifley.

I have been lurking the forums for a while and I have a couple questions:

If i did International Security Studies/Bachelor of Languages, can i double major in Bachelor of languages?, so 2 languages. I also assume ISS doesn't have any majors.

I am from melbourne so i can't attend open day and i would love to move interstate to ANU.

For most double degrees you can double major in one of the degrees (assuming you have spare electives in your other degree that you can use for prerequisites). However, neither of the degrees you've picked allow you to double major. You can still do 2 languages though if that's what you're after. You're correct that you don't have a choice of major for ISS, however you do get to pick a minor and some of those minor options are languages. The B. Lang is a bit more confusing but I think it's saying that you can do a major or an advanced minor + a minor and as well as that you do another minor & have some electives.

The above is from this website, which is useful but also tends to be very confusing.

For each degree of a double degree you need to do 96 units.
A major = 48 units
A minor = 24 units
One course = 6 units (normally, 12 unit courses exist too)
Each semester you do 4 courses so 24 units.

Would highly recommend coming up for the open day if it's at all possible. It'd be a good idea to have a look around the campus to get a feel for it, and also to be able to check out the different halls if you plan to stay on campus. There's an overnight (or during the day) bus (greyhound) from Melbourne which is about $80 each way, which obviously still makes for a very expensive trip, but is way cheaper than flying.

tl;dr you can't double major but you can do multiple languages.

Yeah Phoenix is right.

However, you do have 4 electives in ISS as well as an option of doing a language minor so you can combine them into a major
You can't do a double major in B.Lang (but you still do 2 languages - one major and one minor) because you have to do a couple of linguistics courses
Another option is to do a B.Arts instead of a BLang where you can do a language double major

Spoiler
still so bitter that the ANU doesn't offer the Diploma of Languages  >:(
