    Who are you?:
Hey there :) My name is Tony Tam and I graduated from Melbourne High School in 2011 with an ATAR of 99.35. After that, I did a Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne Uni where I was placed on the Dean's Honours List for two years in row. I am now working full-time as an actuary, where I get to use maths every single day of my life.

How much experience do you have?:
This is my 5th year of tutoring. Over the past 4 years, I have taught 46 students with very different learning styles, with one student becoming dux of her school. Having taught so many students, I have a deep understanding of how each student learns in their own unique way. Chemistry and Maths are both highly concept-based subjects. As my full-time job requires me to explain mathematical concepts to people on a daily basis, it is very natural for me to teach. Teaching for 4 years also gives you exposure to so many exam-style questions that you pretty much know all the tricks in the book, or should I say exam  ;).

    How do you teach?:
My teaching method is one such that I cater everything around you. You are paying for private tutoring so I will design the lesson so that you get the most out of it.

Unlike most tutors, I do not prepare standard notes that I give to all my students. That's the easy way out. Instead, I write my notes during the lesson in your workbook while I teach and explain. At the end of each concept, I will make sure you fully understand, either with sample questions, analogies, drawings, live demonstrations or all of the above! Again, the notes I write during the lesson will reflect this. By writing notes and explaining at the same time, I aim to make the lesson memorable. If you can remember my lesson, you will definitely remember what I teach you. This is my personal way of teaching that I have developed over 4 years and I think it is much more engaging.

I'm also a big fan of learning through doing questions. I understand that sometimes you just can't do any questions because you don't understand the topic. Or you get to revising for a SAC/practice exam and need help with more challenging questions but don't know where to start. That's where I come in. I'll be there alongside you, guiding you through each step, learning how you learn, and changing my teaching methods to suit you. Most questions we'll being doing are my own questions but we'll also be working through your textbook.

Finally, the most important factor of my lesson is that they're fun and engaging. I want students to look forward to my lessons as much as I do. If I see you're a bit bored, I will always try to cheer you up and get you to focus. Despite working full-time, I still tutor on the weekend because I really do enjoy it. Seeing my students learn and grow from my lessons is a truly rewarding experience.

How do I find out more?:
