Given all this Marxist/commy stuff on campus, is it possible to get some conservative speakers to deliver some talks as well? Just think it'd be fair to have a more balanced and diverse perspective on world affairs at university as all I've seen is leftist propaganda and it's only the first day back...

I mean, there's nothing stopping conservatives from talking on campus. If you feel really strongly about those issues, you could get out there and talk about conservatism...

I mean, at the end of the day you asked if it was possible. It is. It's just conservative views seem to have a lot less traction on university campuses.

the liberal party on campus is very strong and large its just not as observable or in your face as people like the socialist alternative. the christian union is also SUPER prominent and have some awesome events but they are also not as in your face as some of the marxist groups. i love going with my mates who are clearly not christians and wear turbans and shit and they still get free food and stuff at the mucu stalls HAHA but yeah dont worry about it if you want to join those sorts of clubs there are definitely opportunities to do so

There's also the Freedom Society (I'm not a member :P),  not politically aligned formally (although they have a partnership with the IPA, I think), but they advocate for very libertarian views regarding the allocation of resources in the government, private sector and society at large. A few of their active members also work for right wing think-tanks.

The Liberal Club often gets in conservative guest speakers...it's pretty much the only centre-right forum on campus!

Thanks, I'll have a look into joining this year. Those names ring a bell as I've seen them around last year, from memory. Although I must say, I've never seen a poster advertising conservative speakers or rallies while I've seen a plethora of plain nonsensical ones around campus as of late.

The my.unimelb portal thing is down, but accessing the LMS via https://lms.unimelb.edu.au/ works fine for me.

Same here, lms is perfectly fine, but the portal is taking ages to load.

Jaffy stress alert:

So I've (stupidly) ended up without an a4 duplicate notebook with my chem prac tomorrow afternoon - the coop lines have been longer than i have time for on my 1 hour break before the prac and according to officeworks I have to order online if I want one.

Will I die in the prac without one?

Another jaffy stress alert  ::) :

For my bachelor of Music, the head of my instrument area has put me in a second Year subject. Please note that this is a good thing that I want to do.

My issue is that there are only two available tutorials for one of my core subjects (Music History); one clashes with another core subject and the other clashes with a compulsory class in the second year subject.

I contacted the head of Music History, and she has contacted the time table people. However, she said that I may not be able to get into another tutorial as one of the clashes is not with a "core" subject.

So what can I do in this situation that I can't get into another tutorial. Can I just show up to another one like I can with lectures?

Thanks in advance  :)
