G'day

Officially starting Year 11 on Wednesday!!

Many people say that year 11 doesn't really matter which is true in some regards, I'm planning on putting as much effort into year 11 as I would year 12 so that I can see what my predicted study score would be 'as if I was in Year 12' as I am aiming for a 99.95 which I know is unrealistic but I believe if I aim really high its better than doing Year 12 going 'meh' and getting a 60.

My goals for 2019:
Study 24 hours a week (4 hours per subject)
Get up at 6 am every day (to maximise time in the day)
Exercise every day for the recommended 90 minutes
Aim for A+ on all SAC's and Exams.

In Year 9 and 10 I was averaging C's and D's in English and I really want to change that so I'm going to make sure i work especially hard on that and if you have any advice for me that would be fantastic!

My subjects for 2019 are;
3 & 4 Biology
1 & 2 Business Management
1 & 2 Psychology
1 & 2 English
1 & 2 General Maths
I am still to choose a sixth subject and am tossing up between Studio Arts and Legal (any advice on choosing would be amazing)

Plans For The Future;
I'm planning on going to university and studying paramedicine or audio engineering or production lighting (sound tech or like live theatre)
Paramedicine is my main focus as I'm already doing production lighting and audio stuff with local theatre and I'm getting work working local music festivals.

Hoping to post weekly :)

I think your first thread is still available here:

Let me know if you'd like for the threads to be merged. :)

As for Studio v. Legal, it's a good question! What do you see to be the pros and cons of each?

In deciding whether to do Studio Arts or Legal Studies;
- studio is 'chill' compared to a content heavy subject
- I've always struggled in arts because it can be so broad (can't choose medium or topic)
- I've always hated learning about the constitution etc etc in earlier classes
- Legal would probably be easier as its 'black and white' like maths...only one answer compared to art where its interpretation etc

Summary:
and my first week is over!
My first week was only a three day week from Wednesday to Friday, however I got loaded with a load of homework and for some reason i feel like i actually have to complete it! I wish I was back in Year 7 when I took being able to do no work for granted!
But I'm glad I've started VCE like now i feel like my schooling is finally getting somewhere!

Classes:
Units 3/4 Biology is SO HARD! Like despite the fact I completed 1/2, 3/4 is just so intense!
Legal Studies...IS SO DRYYYY
BusMan on the other hand - is actually pretty cool
General Maths... gotta be my favourite class! I actually know how to math compared to all my other subjects being toats new
English, I've read and annotated 12 Angry Men and it's actually a really good play! Like definitely relevant to todays society still!
Psych, oh god don't get me started but my 1/2 teacher is absoultly wack - like he legit has no idea what he's doing! He walks into class and is like "um so yep we are gonna look at this and um yep ummmm heres a video and um so" Like he legit gives us no work to do and like he seems permanently confused!!

Work / Social;
I worked 26 hours life guarding this week which is good as - has given me time to not think about school!! And I've got some good mates at work who I can chill with! Plus I'll be making some REAAAL good money this pay day!
I hung out with my best friend and boyfriend after school for a few hours the other day and honestly I feel like suuuch a lousy girlfriend! I've barely seen my boyfriend - only 3 times since the new year :/
Also thinking about taking up ballet as a form of exercise...I've always wanted to become a prefessional ballerina but as my mum was a single teen mum money was a huge issue and i wasn't able to take classes...only now when i'm 16 have we got the disposable income to pay for things like ballet classes... and to be honest I don't know if I want to because i know I'll never be able to do it professionally but should i do it?? I'm still really bitter about the fact I wasn't able to start at a young age and that has affected any future I might have had dancing professionally. Honestly I'm feeling pretty shit about that does anyone know of professional ballerinas that started in their late teens??

Not exactly late teens, but Misty Copeland (first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre) started learning ballet at 13. From the sounds of her wiki page, she had a rough upbringing. Unfortunately, parental support and socio-economic circumstances are dominant factors in pursuing performing arts. In regards to feeling bitter, I empathise with you given that I started pursuing theatre after high school for similar reasons (family issues, socio-economic circumstances and lack of exposure-soccer was far more accessible so that's what I did, was quite good at it and dreamt to becoming a professional soccer player or long distance runner but didn't really happen). Didn't feel bitter towards my upbringing and circumstances but instead towards a system that privileged people that started young. When I started, I focused on playwriting rather than acting or theatre acting (as it's more realistic at that age), and merely took acting classes to understand the process as a writer (thankfully VCA allowed me to take them for free). From there, I took a few theatre-making masterclasses and got really good mentorships which opened up more opportunities. Similar thing happening with uni debating, the majority of people debated for many years in high school and quite a few even represented the state and country. Can't say that I'm near as good as them but being able to go to international majors was one of the most formative things that happened.

Trying to be professional ballerina in the late teens is probably similar to a lot of sports, although it could be slightly easier if you have contemporary dance or gymnastics experience. The socio-economic structures that are pervasive within the performing arts suck, but the barriers made me enjoy and appreciate it even more even more. I believe that various activities can still be enjoyable even you can pursue it at a professional level (may be even more so as it's without pressure). I understand your point that thinking about what could have been could make various pursuits less enjoyable, although I can still say I love watching soccer (and explored options to still play club soccer but can fit it in with my other commitments).

If we ever have kids, we make them alter-versions of ourselves that enrol them is sports/theatre/dance/music programs, hoping that they become what we could've been :p

Wow, that's a pretty great start to the year. Good luck with your SACs! I found that the questions on Bio tests were a lot of fun to work through (like, I found that even if I had no idea how to answer something, I could throw ideas out there and get marks as long as I justified them) so I hope you'll enjoy units 3/4.

my boyfriend tuned up at my house at half past 9 with a rose and chocolate 😍

That's so cute! Keep him ;D

Goal 2: 4.0 GPA
   - Attend ALL classes
   - Complete all work BEFORE due date

   - Work through ALL Cambridge Checkpoint Questions
   - Do 20 practice Exams

(Be on top of everything in my life)
   - Follow a routine everyday
   - Read everyday
   - Exercise, run, meditate and do yoga daily

A Little About Me

I'm currently in Year 11 studying English, General Maths, Legal Studies, Psychology, Business Management and 3/4 Biology

I want to achieve my best in school and continue volunteering with the State Emergence Service and local theatre groups and hopefully one day become a a paramedic or become a well know Audio Visual Tech or Stage Manager. I'm so usure tho like i love working AV but it's not regular and doesn't pay as well as a paramedic

I lived in Melbourne till 2010 and now currently in Gippsland.
Volunteers as a emergency responder (junior) and theatre lighting and sound tech
I love love looove camping and late night drives
I want to travel the world (South America, Europe, India)
Try as many things as I can like skydiving and bungee jumping, overseas relief, abseiling etc
Addicted to reading books like milk and honey
Loves herbal tea.

When I was younger I wanted to be a primary school teacher.
When I was 6 I wanted to be a race car driver and a mechanic.
When I was 12 I wanted to be an actress.
When i was 13 I wanted to fly jets in the Air Force.
Since I was 15 I wanted to be a paramedic or a Outdoor Educator (Did work experience at Lord Somers Camp)

Over the past year I've considered going into the Audio Visual industry as a Lighting/Sound Tech as I've got experience from working paid gigs and and volunteer and I've really enjoyed it...Apart from the sexism I've gotten for being the only female technician in in the area which is so frusturating and the pessimist in me is waiting for the day I get turned down a job cause I'm female
Open spoiler if you're interesting in reading my experiences as a technician PS ain't very interesting
Spoiler
Lighting Tech / Load In/Out Crew for Summer Nights 2019
- Rigging and patching of lights, mics and speakers
(Worked with The Teskey Brothers, Saskwatch and Caiti Baker)

Lighting tech for a local theatre group
-Rigging and patching and operation of board (all stage lights) and domes (followspots/moving spotlight)

Tech manager for school productions
- Rigging and patching of lights
-Teaching new techs how to operate board and domes

Lighting Tech and Sound tech/mic tech for talent/perfomance nights
-Rigging and patching of lights
-Putting/Taking off mics on singers and actors
-Repairing mics
I'm currently working as a Pool Lifeguard and Party Instructor and am hoping to become a Swim Teacher.
Back with the paramedic thing I've been volunteering with VICSES for just over a year and a half and I enjoy serving the community so that what was led me to thinking I could be a paramedic and the more I looked into it the more interested I became and that ideas stuck with me since.
Like I'm heading with idea so far cause out of all my ideas it requires the highest ATAR (85+) but i really don't know where I'm going  ???

Some of you may have read this post on other parts of forums but thought I might collate it all and write a lil about myself! More to come...

Hey Evolio!
Ooft, 3/4....compared to 1/2 im getting royally f__ked by the subject like there is SO MUCH CONTENT. I really enjoy leaning about cells and how they function like its so interesting. Same with DNA like i really enjoyed learning about DNA
I've had 1 friend drop out cause they failed 1/2 and failed the first 3/4 sac and another considering dropping it under said circumstances.

Wbu, Why are you doing bio?? What made u pick it?

I'm doing biology because I find it really interesting, especially because we can relate it to our lives.
Also, now, I really enjoy doing those application questions for biology because we need to put so much detail in and make sure we can gain all those marks! To me, it's like a game! Hahaha. We need to score as many points as we can. Also, there's so much to biology than just the content. It follows you everywhere.

Just hopping in to say I LOVE this way of describing Biology - both in and of there being so much biology all around us (there really is!) and trying to give as much detail as possible feeling like a game. What an awesome perspective! :D
Wishing you both all the best with your studies (and in general). You've got this!

Those cases both seem interesting, what made you find the experience informative?. I remember doing something similar when I did Legal Studies and recall being a lot more interested in the County Court case than the Supreme Court case as the SCC was going over some very boring details at the time of attendance.

It's one thing to sit in a class room and learn from a textbook but being able to see cases take place really consolidated my understanding - for example in the Supreme Court we were there for both the prosecution and the defences opening statements and the defence counsel explained to the jury the burden of proof/presumption of innocence and that they had to believe he is guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

In the County Court we watched the prosecution cross-examine one of the accused, and found it really interesting but at the same time not as the barister who was cross-examining was getting very annoyed and flustered at the responses one of the accused were giving (had a very strong alibi).

I haven't read through all your posts to see if you decided on studio or legal
but my advice is don't do legal, it's the most insipid class you will find...at least studio will probably be enjoyable which will make it easier to learn and get you higher marks!

UPDATE
I am generally a very modest and humble person but I feel that perhaps I have earnt the right to brag a lil.

Throughout my high schooling I've been pretty bad at maths, In year 9 I had a great teacher and was getting better and was understanding what I learnt...then came Year 10 where our teacher would give us the questions he wanted us to do and whenever we asked for help he waould say look in the textbook - we would and if we didn't understand he'd say read it again if we still didn't understand he would write what was in the textbook on the board without explaining it...

I was averaging 20% on tests and HATED maths.

Now you might be wondering what I want to brag about - for the first time in my schooling I got over 50% on a maths test.

Now this mightn't seem like much of an achievement until I tell you that I got
100%

And you know that mightnt be 'something to be proud about' cause 'math is easy' but coming from me I'm pretty darn proud.
Anyways thats my lil brag, hope everyone's having a fabulous day!

Week 1, Term 1 Holidays

Been a hectic week - worked Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I finished the Biology part of my list and the first 2 sub topics of my Psychology list, and my friend passed away on Wednesday, went to my boyfriends house for lunch yesterday and am going down to SES to give the vehicles a wash and general equipment maintenance.

With this being said - works been good; ran a birthday party on Sunday and Mon, Wed, Fri I was lifeguarding the inflatable which long story short means I spend 4 hours swimming up and down a 25 metre pool making sure if a kid fell off they wouldn't drown, it's safe to say my legs had a good workout.
My Biology notes are a good and am ready for Term 2.
Am currently writing this cause I'm procrastinating about writing Psych notes haha and i wanna go back to bed - it's not helping its 9 am and i'm still in my pj's YAY FOR LAZINESS!

10 Things About Me
1. Where Do You Like To Go When You Eat Out?
Fast food wise definitely Subway - meatball sub with salami, beetroot, pineapple, onion and cheese with ranch sauce - dont dis it till ya try it it's FLIPPING amazing
Or the pub; all round great choice

2. Do You Like To Cook?
UM YES - my family is vegan and I love trying to make veganised versions of things like mac and cheese (it's so good it can pass for real mac and cheese and its legit just potato, onion, chickpeas, carrot, nutritional yeast and salt), and i recently made a 'meaty' lasagna with textured soy protein as the meat.

3. Could You Live Without The Internet?

Honestly probably - it's amazing but I'm sure if i didn't have it I'd be way more productive and healthy with that said the internet is a really useful tool

5. What Would Your Perfect Day Be Like?
Spending a day with my bf, cooking food with loud music, maybe with some wine and talking about stupid stuff

6. What’s On Your Bucket List?
Go skydiving

7. Do You Have Any Trips Coming Up?
A trip to the fridge???

8. What Is Your Favorite Hobby?
Cooking?? Surfing?? Camping?? One of those 3

9. Do You Have/Have You Ever Had Any Pets?
Yes, I've had 2 dogs - a border collie named Pippa (we gave her to someone else cause she kept biting my brother) and currently a greyhound named Pearl.

10. Do You Drink Coffee Or Tea?
Tea, tea, teateateateateateateateateateateateateateateateateateaTEAAA

Congratualtions on getting your work done :)
I haven't been to any of the vegan restaraunts in the city but I've been to Oh My Greens in Melton and that was really nice. Do you know what type of book you would pick?

Courses
Namely Law & Criminology, Juris Doctor and Paramedicine

I didn't know were to put this so I thought I might put it here and I'm hoping it'll get a lil attention to help me answer some questions. Ever since I was 9 I wanted to be a lawyer but gave up when I realized I needed a 94 ATAR and come on lets be realistic I don't think i can even get a 90 - recently I've decided or realised I won't live with myself if I don't try so i'm looking for advice

Quote
Laws and Criminology
Bachelor degree (honours)/Bachelor degree

ATAR requirements
98 - Lowest Selection Rank to which an offer was made
94 - Monash guarantee for 2019 entry

Subject prerequisites
All applicants must satisfy the following prerequisites or their equivalents.
English
English Units 3 & 4 with a study score of at least 35 in English (EAL) or 30 in English other than EAL

How do students achieve a 90+ ATAR?
How hard is it to achieve a 94?
What kind of study habits do students who achieve a 90+ ATAR's have?
Is it unrealistic for me to have this ambition (on getting a 94+)?
Does any 90+ students have any advice?
Can you transfer into a law course?
Are there any other pathways?? (I've looked but it's confusing)
Does hard work actually pay off?
Has anyone here gotten into a law degree with a <90 ATAR?
How can I make my dream real?

Quote
Juris Doctor
Professional entry master degree

Qualifications
An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with at least a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7 point scale, or qualification/experience or satisfactory substitute that the faculty considers to be equivalent.
Or
An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with at least a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7 point scale and LSAT score of 150+ (taken within 5 years prior to applying for admission).
Or
If, in addition to a bachelor degree (or equivalent) the applicant has incomplete studies in a law admission degree course, a minimum GPA of 5.0 on a 7 point scale in the law studies, with no fail result in the final year, is required. Credit for prior studies, up to a maximum of 48 points may be awarded.

English requirements

English language requirements are met by an applicant having studied in an institution where English is the language of instruction and assessment for the entire institution and have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of one years full-time (two standard full-time semesters) of either:
a university undergraduate award program; or
a program that has been assessed as being taught at an equivalent level to Monash University undergraduate study; or
Postgraduate study as specified above

Minimum English language requirement:
IELTS 7.0 overall (no band lower than 6.5)
TOEFL Paper-based test: 587 with TWE of 4.5
TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 94 overall with minimum scores: Writing 24, Listening 20, Reading 19, and speaking 20.

Whats LSAT? Is that like the bar?
Whats IELTS? WHats TOEFL?
Can you do a law degree and then Juris Doctor? You can't can you?

Quote
Paramedicine
Bachelor degree

ATAR requirements
82.8 - Lowest Selection Rank to which an offer was made
70 - Monash guarantee for 2019 entry
70.95 - Lowest ATAR to which an offer was made

Subject prerequisites
English
Units 3 & 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL
Maths
Units 3 & 4: a study score of at least 22 in Mathematical Methods (any) or Specialist Mathematics, or a score of at least 25 in Further Mathematics

Is a 30 study score average? Is it easy to get a 30 in English?
Is it more realistic to focus on getting a 70? Is my ambition to become a lawyer futile?

IELTS and TOEFL are tests to see how well you can communicate in English. If you study your undergrad in English you're not required to sit either of these.

Term 2, Week 2; 29/04/2019 - 03/05/2019

It's Fridayyyyyyy, woop woop!!
This week has been tiring, and so unproductive but over the weekend I'm going to catch up on lost sleep and get on top of my work; Mainly get ahead in Maths and studying for my Legal Studies SAC (attached below).
Nothing very important happened this week except for playing around with ATAR calculators and stressing about the fact I don't know what I want to do with my life.
Law? or Paramedicine?
Who knows?
Not me.

If anyone can direct me to threads about 90+ ATAR's and 50 study scores I'd be so grateful.

Now you see my friend and I were playing around with ATAR calc and realistically I could get;
English: 30
Further Maths: 45
Legal Studies: 45
Biology: 30
Which estimates I would get a 84.00 ATAR
But for me to achieve the kind of ATAR I wanted (90+) I would have to get higher in English (like a 40) and like a 50 in Further... like please tell me if I'm being realistic - I suck at writing essays like really really suck so any tips or threads about getting better at English please point me in the right direction.

You might have noticed I'm considering only doing 4 subjects.. will I be shooting myself in the leg if I only do 4 subjects?

stressing about the fact I don't know what I want to do with my life.
Too relatable. And I'm in Year 12! I reckon some uni students still don't know what to do either!

How many subjects do you think will be best? I'm trying to decide whether I should do less and focus really hard on them OR do more and perhaps do less good at them.
Thank you :))

Hey Jade. What do you see to be the pros and cons of doing 4/5 subjects as it stands? :)

Pros: Less subjects more time to really get good at the few subjects (then ok at many)
Cons:but then again a particular quote is always stuck in my head "If You Want Something Done, Ask a Busy Person To Do It"
and teachers are suggesting you do 6 so then you use your 'free time' more productively.

Oooh I just saw you're doing Psych too YASS it's the BEST!!! Of course having the most amazing teacher helped a lot! What movie are you watching? Great job on your Business Management mark!!

Why is Criminology/Paramedicine your dream career? And I'm really liking those smart and specific goals you've set yourself, a Year 12 may just be having to take up some of that and use it too ;)

Hey Mango8!
Thank you, That's a brilliant joke BTW.
Ever since I was very young I wanted to have a career in law and I read all the books in my local library on law but when i got older I realized how difficult it would be and I gave up on the idea untill recently I was like if I never try imma regret it.
I'm also a VICSES volunteer and I love volunteering as a first responder especially the medical/casualty handling side of things and I enjoy helping people.

Our school is very you must do this many subjects and when it comes to VCE they are don't necessarily help in the way where a student could not do U1 but then do U2 - the same with our school lets u do one 1 & 2 subject in year 10 but this doesn't mean you can do one less subject in year 12 instead they say you still have to do 6 i think it is and the one u did early is a 7th

Never heard of it - what's it about?

Its a movie hat was made over 12 years i think and it follows this family and their son Mason Jnr as he goes through Erickson's 8 Stages of Development but the movie only about the middle so Stages 4 to 6...it's an alright movie to watch but the 'jumps' in time are sometimes hard to notice and you're like ???what just happened???

I should stop procrastinating and hop off AN so I can actually get my study done 😂

SES training was alright we went over winches and pulley systems used for working at heights and casualty handling, and bonus my bf surprised me with some M'n'M donuts 😍

Units 3 & 4 Biology: SAC was easy but not easy all at the same time and I'm crazy curious of my result (I believe I at least would have gotten 70%)

Units 1 & 2 Business Management: Mocktail stall was successful; we doubled our money so it was alright.

Homework / To-Do:
1. Study for exams

I simultaneously love this and am annoyed.

You have your mid-year exam for bio next week correct? Are you feeling prepared?

Yeah the exam is in Monday and at the moment I'm feeling pretty good, pretty prepared - I'm currently going over my notes and making sure i know how to explain it all (rather then have notes that are just words on a page that don't mean much).

I have an English exam as well and its a Text Analysis and I am so nervous - I have always struggled with essays and this year my marks are going down (idk whether im getting shit or teacher is marking me harder).

All my other subjects I'm pretty confident about and business....im tryna keep an open mind but its so boring and i really wanna drop it

YAY for exams  :'(

Poor you, I finished my exams last week hehe. I have a peer who's dropping Eng Lang for the norm English. I suggest you might want to do the opposite. Assuming you're competent in Psychology and Legal Studies. From my exam experience, there are some aspects of Psychology and Legal Studies.

Term 2, WHAT WEEK ARE WE IN: 11/06/2019 - 14/06/2019

7 exams. 4 days.
my mood? YEET

Exams:
Biology: Was hard bro, one of the questions i just wrote "the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"
Legal Studies: Was stupid, so stupid, so so stupid - finished it in 20 minutes
Business Management: it was bullshit; it looked my like our teacher put a bunch of summary questions in there and then we had write about what "Alex the vegan designer" would have to to do to set up/manage her business
General Maths: I left my calculator at home (HAHHAHAHAHHA) so did it by hand. Completed it with 5 min to spare
English: I couldn't even be bothered we had to analyse a piece on drum lines and protesters
Psychology: Received more confirmation the teacher is dumb - the exam was an Edrolo one on AOS 2 despite being given a revision sheet for AOS 1 stuff even tho the exams supposed to be Unit 1....and it took all of 15 minutes to complete
GAT: All I'm saying is that i wrote my second piece on how the GAT is NAPLAN re purposed for a different audience. Finished with an hour to go yucky

Anyways, posting this on the Monday back (my dreaded birthday) I get to annoy you all with 2 posts this week!!!! Ive been super tired or slack with posting i dont even know how many posts i missed (two???)
Only things that have happened is i got 54% on my bio sac (I THOUGHT I DID WAY BETTER) and 69% on my Legal Exam... i attempted to make myself a birthday cake at 3 in the morning THE FONDANT GOT CRACKS IN IT HOW R U SUPPOSED TO FIX THATTTTTTT if you want pics i will post a link to my facebook post tonight :)

irt bound reference, I think the best way is to just start and see whether it works well for you or not - I'm assuming you can rip out the pages and start over if needed. I liked having a different topic on each page & some people collate examples of hard questions at the back which imo is a good addition.

Yeah, its a pretty cool job. I am currently a lifeguard there, and they were advertising swim teaching positions so I was like to my boss "I'd be interested in doing that" and he was like awesome and so i went as did my course which involves about half theory and half practical with a 'fitness assessment'.
I'm not yet an accredited swim teacher as I need to do some experience hours and then someone assesses me while i teach a real lesson to see if i'm competent.
It sounds like a long process but if swim teaching is what u wanna do - it won't feel long at all.
Just like how a job shouldn't feel like a job - you should love going to work
Sorry for that super long blurb, hope it helps

Your journal has been a good read so far!
Looking forward to an update :)

Thankyouu

This was posted a while ago, but I was just wondering if you actually have mid-year exams for 3/4 subjects? I thought it was just the end of the year exam.

Our school makes us do mid-year exams to "prepare us for the experience of end of year exams" they don't count towards passing or anything though they just go on our report.

What the SES do

This might include tarping holes in roofs or propping up walls that are at risk of collapsing as well as removing trees that have falled across roads and houses.

Flood Rescue: Rescuing people from flood water, helping people evacuate and sandbagging around buildings if flooding is iminent
Search and rescue: SES are often called upon by the police when someone has gone missing to help search for them
Road Crash Rescue:Extracating patients that have become trapped inside their vehicle as a result of an road accident
Theatre: I also volunteer as a lighting technician with multiple local theatre groups to help put on productions
Joke of the week
Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy takes out his phone and calls the emergency services.
He gasps: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says: "Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a gunshot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: "OK, now what?"

Does your school give out regular GPA reports?
We get one about week 8 of every term :)
Does your school do this too?
The only thing I'm worried about though is the format - in previous GPA reports they base your GPA on 4 things; Organisation, Behaviour, Effort and Grades
However this coming report will be based on 5 things; self-motivation, work ethic, organisation, resilience and curiosity/inquisitive.

Yeah! I think it would be super cool if teachers focused more on work ethic, organisation, resilience ect. and less on the marks for specific tests. Our school has introduced "learning maps" that come with comments about our learning, alongside a grade for each task. We get one learning map for each subject each semester but it is updated throughout.

Wow, learning maps sound like a really useful way for school focussed self-improvement! Our school introduced "what makes an effective learner" profiles about 12 months ago and are now basing our GPA's on the 5 main things that make someone an effective learner. I think it will be cool to see our GPA's based not only on our grades but rather on how effectively we learn.

Nope, my school has an online portal with our grades for each subject on it as well as other features such as our timetable, websites such as edrolo etc and submissions of assessments. Our parents can check this and we get a report each semester.
It's quite interesting though to see how different schools make their reports in different ways.

That's cool! Yes, I agree that it is definitely interesting seeing how other schools do things!

Lately I've been majorly lacking in the motivation department - I am OVER year 11 and I just want it to be the summer holidays!!
HURRY UP SUMMER
So I was reading back through my journey journal and trying to find motivation and I found the goals I set in March - one of them being raw 40 in Bio HAHAHAH what a cracker...I don't think it's possible to get that with my terrible SAC scores but I really really really wanna be dux in year 12 so im aiming for that sweet sweet 99 ATAR.

Black writing = not changed
Red writing = revised and edited

Goal 1: 99+ ATAR
Goal 1: 99+ ATAR

- 95% on all 3 & 4 SAC's and Exams
- 2 Practice Exams a week
- Study 6 hours per 3 & 4 subject per week

Goal 2: 4.0 GPA
Goal 2: 4.0 GPA
- Attend ALL classes
   - Complete all work BEFORE due date
   - Participate in class discussions
   - Study 4 hours per subject per week
I will know I've completed my goal when Term 2 interim reports are posted June 28th 2019

Goal 3: Raw 35 Bio Study Score
Goal 3: Raw 35 Biology Study Score

- 95% on Exam
- Do 20 practice Exams
- Study 6 hours per 3 & 4 subject per week

Alas I'm not more motivated and i have a stack of Bio practice exams and  Business and Maths homework to do.
If anyone could direct me to advise me of something motivational that would be amazing.

Also how hard is LOTE by correspondence in Year 12 if you have a general knowledge of the language??? I don't think I wanna do HHD tbhhhhh is HHD any good????
Title: Re: JadeRhoden's Journey To A 90+ ATAR
Post by: Nature on October 05, 2019, 05:18:43 pm
You have some great goals but obviously it is easily said than done. In regards of a LOTE in Year 12, having a general knowledge is not enough if you are wanting to achieve a high score in my opinion. But if you are willing to put in the work, depending on the LOTE, the scaling could pay off. Just want to reiterate that doing a LOTE in Year 12 will take up a lot of your time unless you go to a language school or it is your mother language.
Other than luck, best of luck for your studies and I look forward to hearing from you again as you progress through the year.

My subjects for 2019 are;
3 & 4 Biology
1 & 2 Business Management
1 & 2 Psychology
1 & 2 English
1 & 2 General Maths
I am still to choose a sixth subject and am tossing up between Studio Arts and Legal (any advice on choosing would be amazing)

Plans For The Future;

Hi YussifK,
I understand being disadvantaged because of a crappy school and I apologise if what I have said has upset you. I strongly believe you can do anything no matter who you are or of your circumstances and in your case, the school you go to.
I believe that if I went 'meh' and just cruised through year 12 I feel like a 60 would be within reach whereas if I worked my ass off I might have a chance at a 90 ATAR.
If anything I am deliberately having overly high expectations of myself, hence viewing a 60 as meh because I personally believe that I wouldn't have put in my best effort to achieve an average score and potentially misleading myself that I might even have the chance to get a 90+ ATAR.

I believe you would achieve  such score cause you seem very bright... I was a little hurt via the fact that I’m disadvantaged... and the highest atar last year at my school was suppose to be 76 but for some reason it became 70.(I don’t know how though)

People at my school are aiming for 50+ 😭 it worries me so much... I actually hope one day you achieve such amazing score🙏 (You would)

You can achieve anything you set your mind to - you can get the score you want even if your disadvantage as I'm sure you've heard VCE rewards hard work not smarts

I was just reading through your post... and I’m so happy for you... YOU GOT a B in English congrats.

One question: if average 70+ percent in all my subjects what would my study score likely be...

Rank matters more than scores but check out the links below as they may be able to help you more then I :)
Check out this link:
https://twmpublications.com/statistics
And this thread:
https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?topic=138501.2565

I beleive you could acheive a super good ATAR and be the first in your school :)
Because even if you have useless teachers or you classmates don't care about their education or whatever your case might be the ATARNotes community is here to help you suceed. There are threads for marking essays and subject specific question/tips threads which I'm sure you'll find useful.
I come from a rural school with some pretty interesting teachers and consequently I have to pretty much teach myself the content (so i understand where you're coming from) but whoever you are or whatever your circumstance is; if you put in the hard yards you'll reap the benefits :D

Update #1
- - - - - - - - -
tl;dr: im stressed and broke
Man I haven't even finished Year 11 and I'm stressed about Year 12.
Stressed about content.
Stressed about the subjects I've selected.
Stressed about exams that are over a year away.
Stressed about doing well.
Stressed about whether imma fail English
Stressed about how to keep a work/school/social balance
Stressed about being broke and wishing I could afford ATARNotes topic tests.
Stressing because I have the mentality that you need to have extra resources to succeed.
Like I've made it my goal to become dux but like the other students who I beleive are my 'competition' have extra resources and it's frusturating me and my parents are like education is important but not important enough to help you pay for extra resources.
- - - - - - - - -
Should I do 4 or 5 subjects in year 12 ????
I'm not a strong English student so im worried that a bad english ss will really really badly affect my ATAR (hence why maybe I should do 5 so that could help that?)

Hey J!
I feel exactly like you at the moment, and I can definitely relate to your biology struggles (just did my 1st prac exam and got 47%....), so I know that everything feels like just too much at the moment but try to remember that it is almost over!

In terms of if you should do 4 or 5 subjects, it is really up to you. Doing a 5th won't make much of a difference to your ATAR as it only adds on 10% and it just means more work. Personally for me, I am doing 4 subjects as I know I can try and focus on them to get the best scores that I can. So just think about the extra work load for something that won't make too much of a difference.

English is such a struggle for me too! I don't have alot of money, so a youtube channel that is based on VCE english has some great videos which you should check out to see if you find helpful. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkH6-sgIxWjGb0kAaybyzew

Hang in there and good luck!

May I ask....why don’t you study what has been learnt for your biology sac... get Atar notes topic test.... ( the best advice I got my teacher was before an upcoming sac... ask what’s important to study and show he/her what Kind of question should I study from the atar notes topic test... you will be on your way to good marks 70+

My SACs were alot easier than the exams, so the content in them isn't in enough detail for me to do well. I haven't got the topic tests from atar notes but I am using the ones from NEAP. Honestly what is making my marks bad at the moment is my study technique. I didn't revise before I took the exam, so my knowledge was quite rusty, so I am currently trying to mend those holes by going over notes and rewriting things I forgot or didn't know. But thanks for the advice, I think preparing really just varies between people and what their experiences are.

With all SAC's completed for the year I am testing and developing my understanding and working out gaps in my knowedge as it would be useless to revise the topics your confident in.
I took my first praccy exam (2017 neap) for Bio and got 41% as I wanted to see how I'd do with my current knowedge and to figure out where the largest knowedge gaps were. From there I've written down the study design dot points that cover the questions I'm struggling to get marks on and am focussing my study on that :)

Thank you so much Geoo, I'm worried that English wil really really negatively affect my ATAR but if I didn't complete HHD I could use that time to focus on English. I have come across Lisa's Study Guides in the past but glanced over them - I'll be sure to check it out!
What Enlgish texts are you studying next year??

Update #2
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
This week was generally uneventful however I did have a Legal outcome on Remedies which I did not study for (oops) I think max score imma get is gonna be a 65%  :'(
I also have an English outcome on Monday which I am SO nervous for!! But thank god our teacher gave us the prompt on Friday so I can write an essay and plan it and try and recreate it on Monday....why is comparative writing SO HARD!?
I also have a maths assignment to catch up on  :-\ yay for falling behind and not being able to catch up
I also got my score for my biology SAC...I thought I did really good but only got 75% because I didn't put enough background reference in my intro and my discussion wasn't long enough :'( which means I need at least an 85% on the exam to have a chance at pulling a 35 ss
Other than that my school week was preeeetty uneventful....so heres a joke: A slice of apple pie is $2.50 in Jamaica and $3.00 in the Bahamas. These are the pie rates of the Caribbean.
Also any song suggestions for this months playlist????
Hope everyone's week is going great so far!!

Hey Geoo! I am feeling super unprepared for the exam even though I know the content I am struggling with working my responses in trial exams to gain full marks and demonstrate my knowledge. To an extent I am considering redoing Biology next year because HERE I COME UNDER 15 STUDY SCORE!
How about you? How are you feeling?

That really sucks! I know how you feel at the moment, I have done about 16 exams an was never able to get above 70% aside from 1, so that really wasn't promising. I went into the year wanting a 45, but know all I want is over 35. I know the content and can recall is quite well, but my expression in the SA questions is just terrible..... I generally get close to full marks multiple choice which is good just the SA's is where it gets me....
I have kind of come to terms with it, so I am actually not feeling to stressed and quite calm whilst still just trying to study anything I can. I feel more disappointed than anything else, as I feel all my hard work throughout the year going down the drain. Other than that I feel fine, just waiting to get it over with, ripe of the band aid. ;)
I don't think you will get a 15 :P I definitely think you will do better than you think! I wish you luck and lets just be thankful that it will all be over soon...

It was hard but nowhere near as hard that I thought it would be. I got lucky with the question about block mutations as id been revising that as I was straightening my hair this morning but the last question was asking about limitations in regards to an experiment.... I had no IDEA what to put for my answer!
How did you go with your psych exam Ionic Doc???

Hey J_Rho

Similar to you this exam was definitely harder than previous years.

Multiple Choice took a bit longer than expected, (a couple of questions where more than 1 option seemed correct)
short answer section was pretty straight forward and I feel like i did decent,
the extended response section was really general, I knew all the theory but linking back to the scenario was a hit difficult.

Overall just hoping I can get a study score greater or equal to 35.

On a positive note, no matter what happens I know that everyone who's done a 3/4 this year will have developed great skills and knowledge to prep them up for year 12.

So are your year 11 exams around the corner?

Okay so I was going to do 3/4 Theatre Studies by distance but my school said no as it is 'too much of a resource commitment'
So now I have to choose my 5th subject...
Im already going to be completing English, Further, Psych and Legal and completed Bio this year
I need to chose one more subject but don't know what to do
I want to study Paramedicine or Law and for paramed i need an atar of 80 and law an atar of 94 so i need subjects that ill do REALLY well in....
Im not a strong english student (C+ average), but a strong legal student (A+ average) so idk what id do well in
What subject will be most beneficial/ allow me to do really well in out of the following
Economics, HHD, Global Politics or Software Development?

I'm wanting to get ahead during the summer holidays, and want to be smart about it...
For Legal Studies and Psychology, I'm making chapter summaries and flashcards.
For English, I'm going to read and annotate my books and make cue cards with quotes on them and write a practice essay or two if I have time
For Maths, part of me wants to just do the textbook questions when I find out the chapters we will be completed but I've heard from others that it isn't very beneficial.
I'm open to suggestions on how to get ahead, particularly for maths.
Also what lectures are most beneficial? The head start ones or the revision ones?

TL;DR Whats the best way to get ahead during summer hols for my subjects? ( I'm thinking about covering all course work)

Exam Week - 18 Nov 2019 to 21 Nov 2019

With the Year 11 exams nearly upon me, I'm not stressing about them nearly as much as I maybe should but rather I'm stressing about the fact I am technically in Year 12 in 8 days, hell it feels like I was in Year 7 yesterday.
With this overwhelming realisation that I will soon be making my way into my final year of school and the pressure I'm placing on myself to become dux I began thinking how on earth do I separate myself from the others? How can I do the best I can but be better than everyone else? How do I achieve excellence from my very first assessment? After hours of stressfully searching the internet and finding thread after thread and articles on 'How I achieved a 50' and 'How I went from D+ to A+' I perhaps am feeling maybe I can achieve this...maybe I'm not being too unrealistic on myself but then again some of the students in my year level... have never gotten below a B+ or A so then again maybe I am being unrealistic because honestly, I know and ATAR is just a number but I want to show everyone that I am smart and dedicated and show the teachers who have said that I am not high achieving, that I am... to be the ultimate fuck off.

With that little rant over, just gonna say IDC at this point about my year 11 exams which is really bad. I should care but i don't cause I just want it to be holidays so I can focus on getting ahead for Year 12.

I haven't updated this in way too long, and NGL nothing has really been happening but Ill be back sometime next week to update ya'll on my goals for Year 12  8)

and a joke to brighten up your day
A pun, a play on words, and a limerick walk into a bar....no joke

With Year 12 almost upon me I think its time for a (much needed) update!
Following the same format I had last year going into Year 11 here are my subjects, goals, and way to acheive my goals. The next 10 months are going to be insane, stressful but I'm hella excited (and scared) to be going into my final year of school!

My subjects for 2020 are;
3&4 English
3&4 Further Maths
3&4 Legal Studies
3&4 Psychology
3&4 HHD

My goals for 2020:
Exercise every day for the recommended 90 minutes
Aim/Acheive for 95+% on all assessments
Write an essay a week
Acheive my study score goals: English (37), Further (47), Psychology (45), Legal (47), HHD (45)
Update my journal regularly  8)

Ways to acheive my goals
Use Sundays to revise all my notes from all my subjects
Test myself regularly (spaced repitition) using flash cards
Aim to complete homework the day it is recieved
Study 5 hours a week per subject
Complete checkpoints and topic tests regularly
Skim through coursework over the summer holidays - creating notes and flashcards
Have a study timetable to regulate my spaced repitition learning and assign time to write an essay

Code: [Select]
Date:

Classes:
*What classes you had, what you worked on, what you enjoyed/found difficult, rate your productivity

Homework/To-Do:

*Address what you're doing well and what needs to improve
Eg. Exercise every day for the recommended 90 minutes

Hey J_Rho, just wanted to chip in here to say that while it's great that you're aiming high for next year, placing unnecessary stress on yourself isn't. At the end of the day, I think that the most important thing is to try to do your best, not necessarily be the best. Besides, I think that the main thing is to work hard but also smart and the results will follow! Obsessing about others in your cohort who could do well in Yr 12, won't bring you closer to your own goals. But, focussing on yourself and your own study habits will ;)

J_Rho's VCE Journey

Part 2 (Year 12)
Happy New Year!

Due to my "new year, new start" mentality I'm doing a little recap/intro thing to get me back into the school focused mindset and as an intro into the second part of my VCE journey - Year 12 - dun dun dahhhh.
Going into this year is daunting, to say the least, and honestly, I'm not ready to do year 12 - I want to go back to Year 7 where it was chill and the work was easy and I could muck around a little in class and it didn't matter but alas I'm getting older and I've reached my final year. To all the other Year 12's or those doing a 3/4 subject; lets rock this shit. Our own hard work determines where we go and to be completely honest I didn't take my 3/4 subject very seriously I was just vibing and then towards the end of the year, I started realising oh shit, if I got a good study score my ATAR would be better then if I got a lousy study score - now I always knew this but it never really hit home so to speak. So this year I'll be taking 5 subjects and pretending as if I didn't do a 3/4 because my score was so bad imma pretend it neverrr happeneddddd.

Subjects

English: Look, I'm crap at English, I can't write an essay to save my life - I love and am good at reading but writing yeah nah. The higest I've scored on an essay is a B, and we were given the prompt on Friday so I had the weekend to write an essay and memorise it so i don't think it even counts. English is probably going to be a difficult subject but I think I can really improve with hard work.

Further Maths: I wanted to do methods but my school wouldn't allow me to as I hadn't done 1/2 (because it clashed with my 3/4 last year) so that toats sucks but I have very high goals for this subject I KNOW with hard work I can be getting those 100%'s like yeah yr 12 is harder but last year with a little revision I can get  95%+ like come on not to blow my own horn but I got the top-scoring result in the mid-year exam and I DIDNT EVEN HAVE A CALCULATOR. I'd love a 45+ in this subject but tbh I'm not really caring about numbers I'm just gonna aim for (and study for) 100% on assessments and see where that gets me.

Legal Studies: I love Legal. The teacher is good, I seemed to have a natural affinity for it last year (perhaps cause it's really relatable to everyday life) the Year 12 content seems hard but not too hard and I'm super keen. The teacher actually wants us to do well which is awesome cause most other teachers just want us to pass. I'd love to come out with a 45+ study score as I think this is one of my strongest subjects.

Psychology: Last year, the class was a flop. The teachers...teaching style...was different and to put it in perspective, our class learnt more in a class with a substitute teacher then we had the whole year. Anyways, we have a new teacher! my Bio teacher, now I know i complain about teacher a fair but but he really honestly just reads off powerpoints and it sucks but hopefully this year is better! I like-ish this subject but It's a bit ehh

Health and Human Development: Ahhhh look, I don't wanna be in this class. It's full of all the students who don't care which is good but bad - 'easier' for me to be rank 1 but horrible to be surrounded by people that don't care. I'm doing this subject cause I basically had no other choice. Hopefully, I'll find some interest to make studying for it a little better.

School Goals
My goal is to do well, look after myself and have fun. That's a little more wholesome than "my goal is to achieve a 90+ ATAR'
Basically my school goal is a 90+ ATAR and the title of dux - its gonna be motherfking hard but I'm willing to work for it...i mean im literally about to start on making unit 3 notes for HHD and I've already started Psych, and Legal

Holidays are coming to an end

22 January 2020

It is safe to say, I over anticipated how productive I would be over these holidays. I've been caught up in work, work, and been too tired to study or I've been going to the shops with mum so I can drive and get my hours up and I have not made the time to actually put pen to paper, like now, when I've sat down to get some study done and I've found myself here, writing this.
I tried to keep myself accountable with lollies, but instead of having self-control and allowing myself a lolly every time I achieved a task, I ate them all. The most productive thing I've done is get myself another job so that now I am trained in 3 departments in my job (Lifeguards, Aquatics Team, and Frontline Staff) which is cool and I only have 29 more hours to go until I reach 120 hours which is all good and well but I'm too broke to afford a car  :P

I'm not prepared to start school again, I'm excited but I'm also terrified cause I'm not so sure I can actually do well cause English is my weakest subject. I have an A4 page of tasks to get done in the next 5 days and I AM PROCRASTINATING SO HARD.
Today I am going to get shit done and IDC if I'm up till 2 am I'm just going to get it done cause I don't wanna be going back to school not feeling like I have a head start!
Maths: Exercise 2A
Legal: Activity 2.1 Q1-3
Legal: View and take notes on this https://www.thelegalstudiesguy.com/u3-aos1
Psych: Edrolo 2A & 2B
HHD: Holiday Homework Booklet
HHD: Edrolo Prerequisites of H & W determined by WHO
English: Transition Booklet
English: Annotate the Lieutenant pg 1 - 100
I'll be back when I'm finished!!! Hopefully that's around 7 pm, once I've done my tasks i hope to be much more useful around the forums!

Year 12 - Week 1

My school week started on Wednesday which began with a 45-minute whole school assembly followed by a 25 minute year 12 assembly, the rest of the week was cruisy but exhausting but worth it because on Friday one of my friends went up the street and bought us all ice cream sandwiches.

Subjects

English:This week we covered the theme of courage in The Lieutenant and we were given a layout of what we would focus on each lesson and the exact dates for our first two SACs. Overall my productivity was about a 6/10

Further Maths: Need to make sure I'm up to date and remember that we cover an exercise or 2 per session, I wasn't productive and got distracted by my friends due to the the horse shoe seating arrangment. Need to work on this - productivity was 3/10

Legal Studies: Went over task words and the study design for the first two lessons, got a 5/6 for my essay need to ask how I lost 1 mark productivity was good tho 8/10

Psychology: Havent had a Psychology class yet

Health and Human Development: This class sucks, but its easy so I feel like i really shouldn't drop it need to remind myself i gotta be persistent and just DO it. Productivity was 5/10

Homework/To-Do:
English - complete book mark task ✔️
            - find quotes on courage
Further Maths - Exercise 2C - 2H ✔️
Legal- Take notes pg 38 - 45
          - Answer questions 1-4 (Activity 2.4 on p.41)
Psychology - Chapter 2 Questions
HHD - Hand in transition booklet

Work/Social:
Worked every day except Monday, nothing very interesting happened and was pretty tiring
I attended an awareness session at an SES about an hour away, and to be honest it was useless it was pretty common knowledge but we did a Maccas run afterward so it was worth it. I also missed a community engagement meeting which I was bummed about cause I love CommEd and want to get super involved but I did message the Deputy Controller of CommEd and gave her my ideas so all is well. I've also been asked by the Deputy Controller of Assets to help him with some projects such as vehicle tick sheets, and setting up a "turnout desk" with vehicle keys, things you need for certain jobs, etc.

And as a reminder to myself and others...
Your hard work determines your place  - Don't wait for motivation, persistence will always win.

Year 12 - Week 2

My school week basically ends today as we have our swimming carnival tomorrow, as Friday is a chill day because teachers don't expect students to either A. be at school the day after carnival or B. Be performing at their best. This week dragged but somehow went fast at the same time.
Subjects

English: This week we covered the theme of loyalty in The Lieutenant. Overall my productivity was about a 8/10

Further Maths: Ahead of the class - productivity was 6/10

Legal Studies: Was given our first 4 sac dates and some homework 7/10

Psychology: Not bad, watched edrolo videos, had class discussions, not bad - 6/10

Health and Human Development: This class sucks, i hate it so so so so much but i have to push through and get that 40+ ss Productivity was 4/10

Homework/To-Do:
English - find quotes on courage & loyalty
Further Maths - 2I Assignment
Legal- Take notes pg 38 - 45
Psychology - Watch 3A & 3B
HHD - Complete homework & hand in transition booklet

Work/Social:
I've be super super busy and I'm keen for Friday as it'll be my first day off from work in like 11 days which is ages for me as I usually only work 3 days a week but hey! money! I also had an SES swim test yesterday, were we had to wear all our gear and swim 100m and tread water for 2 min, E A S Y! Rant: But no none of the blokes i swum with could swim so I was stuck behind all these blokes struggling and here I am treading water when i could have been swimming because one of my strokes is equivalent to about 4 of their strokes, I was embarresed to swim with them like I understand people aren't strong swimers (hell im not a strong swimmer) but these blokes where like at a 60 degree angle to the water surface (almost upright) with freestyle arms. Bloody rediculous considering these guys want to be swift water technicals so working in flash flood and swift river conditions. Rant over.

Thank you, I'm sure you will be rewarded for the effort you put in - make sure you don't fall down the same path I did last year, study more than trying to find the best way to study or the best resources (as last year I overplanned and never got anything done) your teacher should give you all the content you need for your sac so make sure you study what they've taught but also get other peoples perspectives and if you can definitely do practice questions on plasma membranes
My SAC on plasma membranes we did 2 pracs during the week and then when we did the sac we were given a list of words and we had to write an essay using these words and explaining how it related to the prac's we had done. ie. 'cholesterol' and then I described how cholesterol functions in a plasma membrane and how it helps amoeba function
The revision I did for this sac was revising the prac making sure I knew everything and revising my plasma membrane notes - we weren't told what the sac would be (we all thought it would be multiple choice and extended response) so I just revised everything relating to the sac

Year 12 Week 3 - Entry #1

I dont know why but this week has be exhausing, like everyday, especially tuesday, felt like a friday in October!
I have a mega headache after working 8am - 5pm and only getting about 4 and a bit hours sleep last night so this will probably be short.

Class Summary
English: This week we covered the theme of duty & obedience and choice an freedom in The Lieutenant. Overall my productivity was about a 4/10

Further Maths: Didnt have a teacher this week and I've done jack shit hahaha 0/10

Legal Studies: Done some sac revison but not much 3/10

Psychology: Again didn't have a teacher and didn't do anything

Health and Human Development: Moved out of this class! YESS

Biology: IM MAD. my school wont let me do the first sac cause 'the sac date has passed and itll be too stressful on the teacher to mark your sac too' even tho the class only did their sac last week AND the teacher hasnt even started marking them

Homework/To-Do:
English:

Further Maths:
Legal Studies:
Psychology:
Biology:

Work / Social
Again been very very busy working a total of 26 hours this week, had SES training on Wednesday and am feeling very run down and exhausted. Like i live in constant tiredness but like its worse than usual which shouldn't be surprising given I now permanently work 5 days a week with one job and doesn't account for my other jobs which I get rostered on differently each week. y a y. I really need to decrease my workload

Year 12 Week 4 - Entry #1

B r u h. I can't even. I don't know why I'm behind or why it feels like I've missed a week of class but like wow can I go back to Year 7.
One (stressful) positive is that I've bugged my senior school coordinator enough that she is letting me do the Bio SAC (at least that's what my teacher said)! Yay.
I have a list of shit to get done by the end of the week and I am NOT going to log in until I've done it and I'll treat myself to some skittles
If not then I will wear a virtual cone of shame.

To Do
Maths
- Edrolo Ch 1 & 2 Check
- 2I

Legal Revision
- Checkpoints
- Edrolo notes
- flash cards

Biology Revision

I'm back - Only 9 days late

29 February 2020

Well alas, I am back! and I have completed what I was trying to complete and I shall ashamedly admit that yes it took me 9 days to be bothered enough to complete the Chapter checks on Edrolo. I went and spoke to the assistant principal about not being allowed to sit the Biology SAC and I'm now allowed to do it as the coordinator was not allowed to use my score from last year or stop me from sitting the SAC - was a little bit weird why she said 'No' but that's in the past and I'm just going to assume she was misinformed about how it worked or something. I've also completed a Legal SAC and a Psychology SAC in which I am yet to receive results for but it is estimated ill know by Friday for Legal and the week after for Psych. I also have an English practice SAC this Thursday! Also to those who come from an underrepresented school are eligible for a tutoring network called 'RESN' you can register here and they will get back to you within 24 hours and the help I have gotten is SO GOOD, you "ask a question" and a tutor has to get back to you in 24 hours but it's usually less than that! I asked a question the other day around 10 pm and someone got back to me in 20 minutes with a detailed and helpful reply - think ATARNotes but you questions HAVE to be answered. I've attached a spoiler with an example of the help I have received

Uh Oh - 3 weeks of Term 1 left

05 March 2020

Wow wow Wubbzy! I cannot fathom the idea that we have 3 weeks left of Term 1! I knew this year would go fast but I'm truly understanding it now! I also think that working 4 permanent shifts with the chance of working 7 in a week is a bit much with the goals I'm trying to achieve this year - once a few new swim teachers are trained I'll be asking to see if they want any of my shifts.
I got my results back for Part A of the Legal SAC for Area of Study 1.... 21/25 and rank 2  (rank 1 got 22/25 and I am so peeved that ONE mark cost me equal rank 1 but I WILL BE COMING BACK STRONG FOR PART B!)

Will this be the last week of Term 1 or the second last - the question on everyone's lips

20 March 2020

I'm so sick of school, all anyone can talk about is coronavirus and I get it's scary and imminent and people are excited at the prospect of schools shutting but its all anyone talks about and it's really a bit much. My work has closed and they have no idea when they will reopen wether it be next moth or in 6 months. And it might be selfish to complain but f u c k. I was rostered on for like 15 shifts which would have made me just over $1500 and I could finally justify looking at cars with my 18th 3 months away cause I woulda had enough savings to start looking. Now with no income, my phone bill and other nesscecary expenses will be eating up my savings. I'm looking at applying to Woolworths and Autobarn for customer service roles but I am so upset about work closing. I honestly love what I do and although it is completely understandable why we are closing (with 1 confirmed COVID -19 case in Gippsland) it really really sucks. Like a lot. and it's making me stress even more than I already was about the prospect of my school closing. Part of me doesn't want to apply for another job that I may only need for a few months and despite the idea of no work means I could go ham on schoolwork, it's not feasible when I have necessary expenses such as a phone bill but hey self-quarantine how about I cancel my phone plan haha. I had my English SAC on Thursday and honestly, it was the shittest essay I have ever written! The prompts from last years exam were easier than then ones they gave us! I'll be lucky if I get a C+

This has been a pretty shitty day week. How is everyone else feeling?
Also, I've been told that if your work shuts or you get coronavirus you are entitled to Centrelink payments until your work reopens/you get better? Is this true?

And in light of recent events here's a pun you might must enjoy

Well f***

23 March 2020

I am feeling a multitude of feelings regarding the school closure, I understand the need but it also sucks A LOT. Apparently NSW isn't closing schools till the end to the term which is like 2 or 3 weeks away and that makes me think why cant we stay open for 3 more days. 3 days to feel normal, whatever that is right now. Like wtf is the point of today all it did was stress everyone out and im feeling very... odd. Monday should be the start of the week but like its not. I just...i just dont know what to feel. Im feeling very claustrophobic in the sense that worst-case scenario I'll be stuck at home for 6 months. I was gonna borrow from the school library at lunchtime but im so distracted right now like WHAT AM I DOING. Like the formal notice that schools would close Tuesday was issued last night at like 11pm THIS ISNT ENOUGH TIME (like the local council giving my workplace 5 HOURS NOTICE FOR CLOSING) im flustered and all over the shop and honestly scared. School is my getaway because i dont have the best relationship with some of my family members and i dont know wtf im supposed to do, im not mentally prepared. Last I heard that we would be finishing the term. This is an unprecedented thing, its scary and we dont know exactly what to expect - we can see what's happening in Italy but like do we fully comprehend it?
I've been trying to write a list of to-do's for the holidays forthe past 3 hours and i just can't - yes we will get through this and i bet in 3 months we'll look back and laugh and say "what were we even worrying about" but i've also realised that if this bullshit gets worse we could be returning to school in term 3 and we will be the lucky ones, im not trying to be pessimistic but the idea that our fellow peers could die is a horrible scary thought but could be true an 18-year-old in the UK died like in the last 24hours. and the thought of body storage and coffin building and grave-digging of the 4 thousand deceased in Italy. its horrible and i cant begin to imagine it.
This is all very very strange and weird and i hope things get better.

Sending my love to all of you 💗
(sorry for the weird rant)

On a different note, I'm a little excited for remote learning and my mindset is "BUCKLE UP BITCHES ITS GONNA BE ONE HELL OF A RIDE" and trying to see the positives i might benefit from it being more in control of my learning a lil more. Its like i can realistically do whatever i want and i SHOULD do my work but like idk i feel like the tiny bit more freedom is going to be constructive and i get to be in my pjs and not wake up as early to get to school on time.

And hey we all have each other's backs, we have this forum to turn to for subject help and we will get through it. this is going to be interesting and fun and albeit scary.

I'll update in the morning with what i want to acheive these coming weeks, my plan for this week and my tasks for the day! Bit boring but hey! It keeps me accountable!

I love you all! Stay safe and check in on each other x

Re: Centrelink payments you mentioned in your post a few days ago, that is true generally, but also the majority of people in year 12 aren't eligible to get their own centrelink payments and parents instead get payment (comes under family tax benefit i think). Although not sure what'll happen if school closes for the year given that should technically make you eligible in the same way that someone who dropped out of high school would be eligible.

FIRST AND FOREMOST
My local library is closed, I forgot to go to my school library yesterday and now I have no books to read and I am so sad :'(
I can't read eBooks because I'm not allowed to have any devices in my room (I generally read near bedtime)
Scale 1 - 10, how screwed am I?

To be absolutely honest, I'm stressing about SAC's...especially the Biology SAC I STILL HAVENT DONE.
Like, am I ever going to get to do it? When will I do it? Like I want to do it as soon as possible - and as teachers are at school for the rest of the week I wonder if I'd be allowed to go in and sit it as it was scheduled for today 4 pm - 5 pm, should I email my coordinator about it or is it not allowed cause like I know students are allowed to go to school to get their belongings and pick up work but like🤔

This whole thing is a bit of an odd situation haha

Same! I love reading but during VCE I have no time so I was always getting these huge fines. So a few weeks ago I took 5 books back and remained with one and was reading it slowly. Now I have maybe 10 minutes worth of reading left in this book and idk what to do because I also read near bedtime and looking at the screen of an ebook doesn’t seem like it’d wind me down as much. Such sad times.

Yeah but definitely no charge! So maybe we’d all have to own drones which pick them up.

I agree but I do also understand where all of this is coming from!! the thing is.. I was supposed to do my bio sac this week so now its just been postponed to who knows when? i don't want to spend 3 weeks (at least) worrying about it :(

It's pretty insane and the uncertainty is, i think, the hardest thing, my coordinator is keeping a list of sacs that have been missed/postponed and told me "it will be figured out at a later date" which is irritating like will it be first week back? or will I have to study for it again cause it'll be like week 5 or something
We'll get through this!

Alright, it's big brain time. I need to improve. My best sac mark so far has been 84%. That's lousy. and I need to get real better real fast if I want those 40's, 45's and maybe even a 50.
Okay so I'm not really following my strategies to achieve my goal and I've just been cruising not really going above and beyond at all so this has to change.
I'm going to have a daily checklist of my goal strategies and during a privo or when I get home the first thing I'll do is look over them and make sure I've documented mistakes, done some checkpoints, if its Sunday- go over ALL my notes for ALL my subjects and, if its Monday I'll write a practice essay etc.
I need to ensure I am not only completed up to date but slightly ahead and asking for extra work not only helping my understanding but this will also make my teacher aware that I want to excel.
I'm not going to be another student who wants to do well but doesn't work hard and ultimately ends up where they don't want to be. I don't want to be a dreamer anymore I want to make my dreams a reality.

Untitled Journal Entry

27 March 2020

How is everyone feeling? How are you planning to spend your holidays?? What are some good stay-at-home activities?

Well, the last 3 days have been absolutely unproductive. I need to stop being a potato but IDK about you guys being pent up inside is making me feel pretty down but that's not an excuse! I am going to excel, I'm going to put in my all and I am going to get dux. Its a really far away goal but I can do it! I will do it! I will stop lazing around and I am going to leave a legacy and be an example. Just because I always felt like the underdog doesn't mean I can do really well!

I only got Bio Ch 3 done over the last 3 days which is pathetic and I'm stepping up my game.
We all face obstacles. How you deal with those obstacles defines who you are and determines how successful you are in life.

Im going to wake up at 6 am every morning, do some exercise, have a shower, stretch, make some tea and figure out what to do that day. Ill sit down from 8:30 am - 11 am and then take a break for 60 minutes AWAY from my desk then I'll sit down at 12 pm and work till 3 pm and then take a break for an hour and a half, with 30 of those minutes exercising (prolly jumping on the trampoline haha) then ill sit down from 4:30 pm till 6 pm and then I'll have dinner, do my chores and if I've got everything done I'll watch some Netflix or play Playstation (will always be superior to Xbox), or watch a movie and then at 9 pm I'll get ready for bed, read a book, maybe have a shower (depending on if I need one or not - I don't wanna waste water buuut if i stinky....🤷) and aim to be asleep by 9:45/10 pm

During Term 1 I lost sight of my goals and stopped putting emphasis on studying and only really studied 3 days before a SAC which is STUPID. I'm not doing that anymore

But if anyone wants a good playlist to fall asleep to or use to study as a light background noise check out this playlist

I'm going to go chill and 'reset' and I'll figure out my to-do's for tomorrow, tomorrow. But right now I'm thinking;
8:30 am - 11 am: Maths Exercises (get as many done as possible in this time)
12 pm - 3 pm: Legal Finish off Edrolo videos for u3 aos 1
4:30 pm - 6 pm: Psychology Chapter 1 Notes

(EDIT: I'll be back in a weeks time)

Easter Holiday Break

04 April 2020

Psychology:
I've completed all the set work (Chapters 1 - 5 Notes, Videos, Exercises and Topic Tests) and have Chapter 6 and 7 go before I'm finished AOS2. It's pretty cruisy stuff, but I'm working really slowly like my brain feels half-asleep most of the time, so I think i need to make sure I'm drinking more water and eating more veggies. My plan for this subject is to get all of AOS 1 and 2 checkpoints and topic tests are done by the end of the holidays. I'm finding this subject really really cruisy and I'm finding that the topics super easy to grasp but there's just lots of topics and how they're all interrelated. I'm actually enjoying the subject despite thinking I wouldn't but it's definitely not my fave.

EDIT: First SAC marks back; 84% (not happy about) and Rank 1
To improve this I'm going to make sure I allocate 30 minutes for homework after every class (if 2 classes its 1 hr) and 5 hours of study a week, and obvs that number will increase in the 2 weeks prior to a SAC. During my study, I need to put a lot more focus on practice questions and unit 3 exams.

Biology:
I've completed most of AOS2, but I'm being pretty cruisy cause my teacher only set Chapter 8 for holiday homework so the plan for today is to also do Chapter 9 and 10 and do a Unit 3 practice exam. My plan for this subject is to make sure I'm doing a practice exam a week and actually revising. I really love the way the teacher teaches this subject, he's just engaging and understands that talking from a PowerPoint isn't effective teaching. Like we start most classes with a youtube video (if we are starting a topic) or a short Kahoot (if we have started learning stuff). He also allows for multiple directions of learning ie. here's a few different things you can do to consolidate your understanding and gives us the resources to learn in different ways about the same topic, I'm not letting myself get complacent cause I 'know it already' but rather approaching it as if I've never learnt it and doing everything I can do learn as much as I can and really consolidating my understanding with questions.

Further Maths:
I'm not sure why but I find FM to be hard to study for, like what do I study? So I'm halfway through Chapter 6 and then I'll do Chapter 7 from the Cambridge book and then do all the Data Analysis questions on Edrolo. I have a SAC in week 2 or term 2 and its a 5 hour SAC where we will be given data to analysis and at the end we have to write a report on it. That's all I know and it's so vague I'm not sure how to study for it. I think there are worksheets on vicmathsnotes so I'll do some of those hopefully by the end of the weekend. I love maths and I do understand it but i feel like the FM course is kinda weird idk if its cause the topics are all new or because its a new exercise every class but i feel like I'm missing something. Like you know when something feels too easy and its cause you're doing ti wrong? that's how i feel with this subject in general.

English:
I haven't done much for this subject yet, other than reading and annotate Station Eleven. Tomorrow will be finishing a Language analysis practice SAC that I started on the last day of term. On Monday I'm going to do the 2017 practice exam (but only the text analysis and analyzing argument), and if I'm feeling good do some of the Language analysis exercises in the Pearson English textbook and finish making notes on the LA Edrolo videos. I really love English, despite it being one of my worst subjects and I really want to do well so I really need to be harsh on myself and make sure I'm writing an essay a week and getting it marked by my teachers or by someone else. I truly think that's the only way I will improve and I just need to do it. I enjoy writing essays I just hate starting. So that's probably going to be my biggest goal for the next month is to get into the habit of writing essays, like we are 4 months in and I've written like 3 essays, 2 of which were done in class.

EDIT: Yeah look I haven't got my SAC marks yet but I will not be surprised if its like a D+ or something, like the prompts were so hard and we had never done any work on the themes of anything relating to the prompts. It was really hard to 'go deep' and i had no idea how to discuss the views and values because it was such a weird topic! I'll let you guys know what mark I receive when i get it (I got a C+ on the practice :'( ) but moving forward, I'm going to write a shit tonne of practice essays submit them to my teachers, you guys here, RESN and try and really improve, and hence why English is going to be the subject i study most for, with 7 hours a week scheduled study alongside my 30 min homework blocks. It should work but we'll see :)

Legal Studies:
Similarly to English, his subject has been put to the side for the time being while I work on Psych, Bio and Maths. Next week will predominantly be reviving Edrolo AOS1  for a SAC that's supposed to be held first week of term, and then working through the videos for AOS2. And then I have to work through AOS2 in the textbook up to pg. 170 so basically just stuff on CAV and VCAT. My plan for this subject is to once I've done that do all the checkpoints for AOS1 so I'm really prepared for the upcoming SAC. I love this class, the teacher really pushes us and sets enough work that we can only complete it if we work super diligently in class otherwise its homework. He also sets a fair bit of homework between classes but its general things like summary questions, essays and key terms so it's never too hard. Its probably one of my favourite subjects because the content is fun and interesting and the teacher is really good.

EDIT: First SAC marks: 82% and Rank 3 (such a bad score and i lost so many marks for stupid stupid mistakes, 2% of being equal rank 1 grr) I'm so pissed about this mark, I legit lost like 1.5 marks because one of the questions was like "identify the errors in this" AND I WROTE IN DOT POINT FORM INSTEAD OF FULL SENTENCES and the other 3 marks were lost in the 10 marker for only responding to the first part of the question (I forgot about the second task word) Again I'm just going to really make sure I'm studying consistently and doing lots of practice questions and submitting them to my teacher and RESN.

Alright so, I found some Loreal Colorista Washout Orange in my bathroom cupboard that I forgot that I got last year as a present.
Should I colour my hair??? I can't post a link to the product as it's not sold anymore but here's an image of the product let me know yes or no in the vote at the top or let me know what you think? Am I making a horrible mistake or should it be fine given it is a semi-permanent dye or do you think it'll look bomb?

EDIT: Whos voting no?? WHY!!!??? let me know why I shouldn't! Cause I kinda just wanna go for it even tho it might be bad

How long does hair colouring usually last for?

That's my mindset exactly!! (But I also don't wanna ruin my natural colour and have no idea if it'll completely wash out)
It's a washout one it's supposed to be 2 - 4 weeks or 10 - 15 shampoos.

GUYS THE VOTES ARE AT 50/50, Imma wait till tomorrow arvo and see what the votes are then b4 deciding

Plus, no one has to see it if it looks bad anyway (which I'm sure it won't)

I think I'm just terrified from all those relatives saying "never dye your hair it'll never look as beautiful as it does before you do it" which is stupid cause hair grows out and it's not permanent!

Go for it J_Rho, add some colour to these darker times!!

Haha! That's what I said to mum! "Pshhh, it's not like we are going outside anyway!"
But you best bet I'll be showing yall how it looks even if it turns out trash!!

Me talking about my hair
Okay so I dyed my hair with this weird washout dye in the colour orange. I have pretty dark hair with orange undertones (ie. when its sunny parts of it look orange), so I wasn't expecting it to show up at all.
Here's a few b4 photos
Spoiler

and here's how it turned out
Spoiler
(pretty shit but as expected...the photos don't show how my highlights are basically orange now but that's prolly cause I'm taking photos at 7pm at night with only a lamp)

and here's me feeling cute, as you can see when its dark my hair looks normal

Overall, when I'm 18 I might do it properly and dye my hair an auburn orange colour (like Karen Gillian maybe)

I meaaaaan my school holidays don't end this week...

09 April 2020

Psychology:
Quote
My plan for this subject is to get all of AOS 1 and 2 checkpoints and topic tests are done by the end of the holidays.
I haven't done this or even started it. But this is because I've been working through the bare minimum for my other subjects first before I do the extra 5% but hopefully in the next day or two I'll get to this. I was not happy with my last SAC mark (84%), and I don't think it was reflective of the effort I've been putting into Psych. However I'm not too bummed about it as I am Rank 1 so to me its like a lil warning like Hey, you're doing good but watch out, you gotta step up your game. So I need to get on top of that and do lots of practice questions.

Biology:
Quote
I've completed most of AOS2, but I'm being pretty cruisy cause my teacher only set Chapter 8 for holiday homework so the plan for today is to do Chapter 8, 9 and 10 and do a Unit 3 practice exam. My plan for this subject is to make sure I'm doing a practice exam a week and actually revising.
Alright, I haven't done this, as I already have my notes from last year so I'm focussing on Maths, English and Legal and will come back to this once all that is done. But I'm just going to say, THE EDROLO 2020 TEXTBOOK IS AWESOME.

Further Maths:
Quote
I'm halfway through Chapter 6 and then I'll do Chapter 7 from the Cambridge book and then do all the Data Analysis questions on Edrolo.
This is my task for today, to finish all my FM homework...I'm almost finished Ch7 so hopefully I can also start on English stuff also.

English:
Quote
Tomorrow will be finishing a Language analysis practice SAC that I started on the last day of term. On Monday I'm going to do the 2017 practice exam (but only the text analysis and analyzing argument), and if I'm feeling good do some of the Language analysis exercises in the Pearson English textbook and finish making notes on the LA Edrolo videos.
I haven't done any of this. This is my job for the next 2 days. I just need to do it, starting is the hardest part and I know if I don't do it I'll feel like shit and my grades will be reflective of the lack of effort.

Legal Studies:
Quote
Next week will predominantly be reviving Edrolo AOS1  for a SAC that's supposed to be held first week of term, and then working through the videos for AOS2. And then I have to work through AOS2 in the textbook up to pg. 170 so basically just stuff on CAV and VCAT. My plan for this subject is to once I've done that do all the checkpoints for AOS1 so I'm really prepared for the upcoming SAC.
I don't even know what day it is, and I think we are still in "next week", BUT I am yet to start on this stuff. Thats also my job for the next 2 days. And I honestly think I need to prioritise tasks and then turn off my computer and phone and just do it. Until I realise that all my textbooks and edrolo is online, great. Looks like I'm going to be downloading a app blocker and only allowing Edrolo, Google Drive and RESN, because ya girl have no self control.

In conclusion, I have to do these things:

Today
Bio Ch 8
Psych Ch 5
FM Ch7
FM Edrolo Tests

Tomorrow
Pearson English Activities: pg 164, 171, 173
English Exam 2017
English Edrolo - Station Eleven and LA

12th April
Legal Edrolo AOS1 Videos
Legal Textbook Activities pg155 - 170]

EDIT: Eloisegrace's journal entry about facts about her made me remember...

One of the local theatres I volunteer for was supposed to be doing Mamma Mia this year and I was heartbroken I wouldn't be able to work it because I'm in Yr 12 and it wasn't feasible to do a few months of shows with Kinky Boots and then bump out (usually starts as soon as the last show finishes and goes early into the next morning) and then get a few hours sleep before bumping in the same afternoon for Mamma Mia to do another few months. But they cancelled so we most likely will do it next year! Which means I will be able to do it!!!!

This was very hard to write as its not something I've talked about to any length, and to be honest after it happened it was very hard. The day after I remember waking up and the feeling of normality only lasts a second before you remember everything like you're being told again for the first time, and the dreams are just horrible

Its true to say that the other volunteers are my family and I would go as far as to say that they are more like my family then my real family. I've been with the unit since 2017 and I went through a really dark time in 2018 which at some point I might talk about and there were these 2 members were my rock and they are what kept me here and they responded to my stupid texts at 1 in the morning and called me when they could tell i needed it. They know me better than I know myself at times and they are my family, and my best friends.

Today marks a year since my orange family lost one of our own, we follow in his footsteps in the hope of making him proud. I remember walking into training and being told and time just stood still and I felt winded, struggling for breath as all colour drained from my face. For months I didn't believe it, just waiting to see you walk through the door with a grin and a loud "G'Day mate".  It is a day that will forever be engrained in my memory, of a friend lost too soon. Thank you for the friendship and mentoring you gave us, we are all so grateful for you to have been such a massive part of our lives.

Ah shit...school starts on Wednesday

13 April 2020

The last few days have been pretty crap and I've gotten next to nothing done, so hopefully, I can have a productive day and get myself prepared for school on Wednesday.
The last week I've really slacked off with everything, from maintaining a good sleep schedule to drinking enough water to keeping my room and desk tidy. I'm going to make a little checklist of things i need to do at the start and at the end of each day to help remind me and get back into the swing of things. With regard to homework, I still have a lot to do. I haven't really started on the Legal homework and have only done a tiny bit of the English work but that's today's job! I also need to make sure all my cute tops are clean so I can look bomb in the video classes but I'm actually comfy as cause I'm also in trackies and slippers with a blanket but you can't see ittttt, so maybe there are positives! I can't get told off for taking a blanket to class  :P

I've actually gotten through most of my holiday homework, believe it or not, I've got about a 1/4 of it left! Idk why teachers give no summer homework but a shit load of easter homework... I just wanna paint my nails and read books curled up in a doona, or play video games and take candlelit baths.

To Do

Legal
• Edrolo: Legal AOS1
• List in clear points, the following: factors to consider when initiating a civil claim, including negotiation options, costs, limitation of actions, the scope of liability, enforcement issues

• Summarise the boxes on p.157 "When is mediation appropriate/inappropriate."
• Summarise the Legal brief on p.158 and the NewsReport 5.5 on p.159.
• Answer all of the questions 1-5 on p.159
• Read on Conciliation and Arbitration (160-161)
• Summarise/paraphrase the grey boxes for each area
• Complete Activity 5.3 on the role of dispute resolution methods.
• Read pp 162-163: What is CAV? – 100-word response.
•  Read p.163 Read about VCAT.
•  Define its role and summarise 7-8 points from the snapshot that demonstrates you understand its importance.
• Summarise table 164 ensuring you have a knowledge of its divisions and lists.
• Read and summarise pp 164 -168
• Read pp 168-169 Exercise 5.8: Appropriateness of VCAT in solving disputes.  List weaknesses and strengths as well as two key reforms
• P.170 Answer questions 1-5 thoroughly.

English
• Page 171 “Too much water required to grow steak” Essay
• 2017 English Exam
• Page 164 Questions

FM
• Edrolo Test 3
• Edrolo Test 4

To be absolutely honest, I'm not gonna get this all done today but I reckon if i focus I can get it done by tomorrow arvo especially if i allow more time than needed so here's a cute lil table I made

Hey J_Rho, hope you're doing well!

Good to see you've done most of your holiday homework, I'll be starting a few assignments tonight that are due on Wednesday, so you're ahead of me at least.  :)

Do you know how your online classes are going to work? Even though I had one day of online classes last term, I haven't received much communication about how they will be running, so I'm curious as to how yours will work.

I'm doing okay, how about you? How are you coping with everything?

For most of my classes, we will just be doing work set by the teacher and when it comes to attendance we have to write our name in the group chat. For one of my classes, we will be using Google Meet to start the class so the teacher can explain the lesson and mark the roll. I've attached some photos in the spoiler below, basically (dunno if u use this or not, i can see my timetable for the day and i click of a class and it opens what you see in the second image and of course we have a class group chat in which we ask questions and attendance is marked.

My group chat for Maths Methods in Google Classrooms is being spammed with memes and random chit chat as of now ahahah. My Chem teacher told me to sign up to Zoom so I'm guessing a lot of my classes will soon be conducted on there. We had a similar experiment in psych class the other day for classical conditioning, except, we didn't use wizz fizz and used chips instead. When my teacher went to buy it, there was none left because people had been stocking up on it :/

I wish my class chats were that fun! Our teachers are like "this is for learning only", has your school gone ahead using Zoom (despite security issues)? Oh no! Did you end up being able to do the experiment? But hey i don't blame people (i do panic buyers suck), chips are good! Online Schooling Day 3: Time to start a youtube career

16 April 2020

Welcome back to my channel! Hi! How are ya?

I think it is time I begin my journey as a beauty guru. Buh bye ATAR, hello Youtube.

In all seriousness, online school isn't too bad. Of course, there are some negatives such as I have not motivation or discipline and sitting in a class is a lot better to ask questions etc but there are quite a few positives such as the fact there is more time in the day to do stuff! To those that do school completely online all the time, I applaud you. You are mfing superheroes.

Psychology:
This class is being run via a group chat, so its all VERY self directed. So far we are being given worksheets to do which is lovely and we have not been told anything about our upcoming SAC. In all honesty, I actually prefer Psych in an online format.

Biology:
Again this class is very self-directed, we did video call with the teacher yesterday and he basically asked us if we had any questions and then he left us to do our work. Not sure how this is going to work for the rest of the term but practicals aren't that necessary for this subject but I feel like it'll lowkey suck having online classes

Further Maths:
The teacher is currently sending us videos for each exercise showing us how to do stuff which i really helpful as the textbook often doesn't explain things very well. I just had a class and we did a practice sac and it actually went pretty well but like we were all so scared to ask questions.

English:
The teacher talks so so so much. She talks and explains things and tells us to do xyz while she explains things and it's really hard to try and do work AND focus on what she's saying, she has asked for feedback so I'll definitely communicate this to her. I much much much prefer doing English in person.

Legal Studies:
So far, really good. The teacher talks for the first 15 min answers questions and then lets us get on with the required work and is available in the group chat to answer questions. He leaves really detailed lesson plans on what he wants us to do and what is expected of us at the start and end of each lesson.

The principal decided that Zoom contained too many privacy issues so he sent an email saying that ZOom was banned and now we're using WebEx instead. Do you prefer online learning or learning in a classroom setting?

Webex works really well, I use it for SES and prolly think its better than Google Meet.

I do enjoy the freedom that comes with online learning but I miss the social aspect of a classroom setting and it easier to get work done in an actual class it way too easy to procrastinate at home.

Have you picked up any hobbies or do you have something that you want to do (like paint a picture or bake something)?

Week 2 Part 1
ooo, weird post format! I'm seeing how this works posting about Mon & Tue and on Wed - Fri and on Sat & Sun

Monday – 20 April

English – Worked on cartoon analysis, and I found it really hard analysing an image on its own but it’s definitely given me some tools and a better vocab to help me analyse images in the future. I have a practice sac on Wednesday which I’m nervous about because I am really not great at language analysis.

Psychology – We watched a video from the big bang theory about Sheldon training Penny and wrote about it in our log books which we will use for our sac next week. I’m actually really nervous for this sac because its based on our log book entries and not like textbook content so im really worried my log book entries will be good enough to get a high score on this sac. As far as I’m aware, I’m rank 1 but there one girl who idk what score she got so I could be rank 2. My point is that I really want so score as close to 100% as possible.

Further Maths SAC: Part 1 – So I’d usually have privos for the rest of the day after 11am but my data analysis sac was scheduled 12:30 – 2:15. I was super nervous despite doing a practice sac and getting really good feedback on it. And it wasn’t too bad but my calculator had a fit and was showing this
(https://imgur.com/u4lVRGT.png)
when I was trying to make parallel box plots and I also went and I also heated and ate lunch cause I was SO HUNGRY (idk whether this is a pro or con to doing sacs at home) but I defs think some of my responses could have been more refined - such as this, it has hands down got to be the worst sentence I have ever writen and im not even exaggerating.
Quote
The lower and upper quartiles for the Early Industrial Era, Post World War 2 Era and the Modern Era  have increased, with the lower quartiles of 19.85, 19.965 and 20.25 and upper quartiles of 20.67, 20.765 and 20.92 respectively. This shows us there is an increasing trend in temperatures over time.
I am resigned to the fact I will score so so so badly on this like less than 40% I swear. Sorry that’s a lie im not resigned to it – I’m really stressed and I feel like imma breakdown any minute because I want to do really well in FM 😭

Access Monash Mentoring – So I’ve scheduled my first Zoom meeting with my mentor, on Thursday and I’m usually super nervous for stuff like this especially video calling but I’m not nervous (maybe my body is saving all the stress for the night before haha). Not actually sure what to expect from the program tbh, as theyre like make uni/industry connections but they also mentioned something about VCE mentoring so I have no clue. I did find my mentor on FB and I think she’s a Law student which will be interesting as!

Tuesday – 21 April

Legal Studies – Okay so I am going to admit I had a crap morning and I could not bring myself to hop on the video call so I just did the set work. Probably not the best idea but it fine. I haven’t done much work for this subject outside of class time or completing assignments because I’ve been dedicating all my time to English and Further and Psych cause I have upcoming SACs, which isn’t the best because the Legal SAC is in the 1st of May which is like 10 days away so I’ll have to get onto that ASAP.
Rant
I’m so irritated because my parents are so loud, like they’ll have a free period and they’ll be talking so loudly right next to where I am. Like I don’t have an issue with them making food or helping my siblings with their work like I get that but could they not talk elsewhere? Or quieter? Dad literally lectured me tell me I’m supposed to be helping teach my siblings, and I’m like ummm I’m literally doing class work im literally in a class. And then he told me that ‘its not like you do work anyways’ and that ‘you don’t do shit, don’t act like you use your privos to do work’ and I’m sitting here like I’m sorry what am I literally doing right now?? It really irritating and if I try and tell them anything like ‘its really distracting when you have conversations next to where im working’ they’ll tell me im selfish. I usually have headphones in to drown out all the annoying noises but my headphones broke and because Im not working my parents wont let me buy new ones which im mad about like its my money, AND im buying something I need for school. Like its not like im buying food or clothes or something that’s not useful.

Biology – I love this subject a lot and the teacher makes it super engaging but its hard to consolidate knowledge without classroom interaction. But I did it last year so I've already got a pretty good understanding so i literally have nothing to complain about. And tbh I’ve been super slack and not done like anything. At all. I was feeling really good and motivated yesterday and today I feel like crap sooooo im going to exercise after ‘school’ and hopefully I’ll feel better and get some study done.

Further Maths SAC: Part 2 –
vibe check
Before sac vibe check – the vibes are ok
After sac vibe check – the vibes are fucked
The sac was atrocious, and I think imma do so poorly on it I wanna go each chocolate and cryyyy
The last bit (writing the report) is on Friday and hopefully that bit is better than the rest.
I feel so flat. I was thinking I should after bio I should exercise now I know I need to, and drink wore water, and eat more than just green tea and pasta.

Other
I feel like absolute shit, and I have no idea why. I want to nap, cry or eat some chocolate. or maybe all 3.
And to be honest it is probably lack of exercise and food and water but like im so drained

I’ve been listening to a lot of Glass Animals, Lana Del Rey, Love Fame Tragedy and The Wombats this week. Idk why but im digging older songs but also theres a select few new songs that are so good!! You can check out what I’ve been listening to here.

I know I'm not sticking to my format but I'm stressing a little here. And yes i know I'm annoyed with how much i post (esp when its mostly not helpful)

I really want to get an awesome ATAR but I haven't yet gotten my English SAC results back but im very sure that they will be really bad like D or E bad. The prompt was on something we had never even spoken about in class AND i'd never come across a prompt similar to it at all and i have a long word doc of prompts from my teachers and across the internet, i think we are supposed to be getting the results tomorrow of Friday but I'm shit scared. I know I can't change anything but I think part of me is still clinging to the hope that maybe somehow I got above a C+.

My English teacher in Year 7 and 8 was amazing and she has a lot of faith in me and I feel like if i don't get a study sore in the mid 40's I'll have let her down...its also a personal goal of mine to get a mid 40 ss in everything ESPECIALLY English because I've always been the underdog. Out of me and 3 other girls I've always been seen as the 'dumb' one even tho I got scores the same or higher. In Year 8 and 9 I was top of my language class and year 7, 9 and 10 i was top of my maths class but I've never ever been top of my English class, except that time where I did an oral presentation on Shakespeare and my usually somewhat stony-faced teacher clapped and congratulated me but that was legit like one presentation out of quite a few

I don't know how to improve, my essays are always bland, they have potential but I can't seem to go deep enough, like there are times where i feel like I've gone really deep but the teacher says go deeper and I have no idea how. And language analysis boy i freeze like how to am i supposed to analyze an article! Whenever i do a practice one I always end up opening my word doc with language techniques and tone words because I can't identify shit, and i end up using the same tone words again and again. al presentation is the only thing I am not afraid of, yes I hate it and stress but nowhere near as much as LA and comparative. I wish I could have some amazing story like "From failing to 48" but I don't know how to improve. And everyone says WRITE MORE ESSAYS! but I struggle with how I implement feedback into my writing. I can take it on but idk how to use the feedback to turn it into beautiful letters into stunning words into gorgeous sentences into lovely paragraphs into one big exquisite essay. and also some ppl say writing too many essays will make you plateau at a standard that isn't good enough for a good score.  I want to say being underestimated is a motivation but at this point, i don't know what i should even be doing. I'm almost certain I bombed the first sac and I'm stressed the house I also don't wanna annoy teachers with asking them to mark essays for me because my teacher doesn't mark practice essays.

But I am okay, I'm just really, really, really, REALLY c o n f u s e d .  Like how does everyone do so well? Give me your secrets please.

But wait! There's more!!

I've completed 4 SAC's and have gotten marks back on 2 of them, Legal and Psychology.
Legal -  I got an 82% which I am so ashamed of
Psychology - I got 84% it makes me feel better that I think I'm rank 1 but still crap
I need to study more, doing more practice questions. THESE I know how to improve. The theory is textbook and the way you answer questions is pretty straightforward and if you know the info if almost formula-like.

And I think I'm more math brained then English so you'd think I'd be alright at LA but nooope, I got a C+ on my LA section of my Yr 11 Exam hahaha oop.

Well, this post has been long enough! If you read all of that, thank you (also sorry) but hey don't we all feel like this sometimes??

Goals for the next week (24/04 - 01/05)
I'll update you either on Wednesday on how I'm progressing or on Friday to tell you guys I smashed it. I'm slowly finding my groove again and I know for a fact having goals will help me heaps!

I'm also going to be taking a technology break over the weekend because I feel like I'm getting square eyes with all this online learning!!

I also emailed my current English teachers and my lovely Year 7/8 teacher (who told me a few weeks ago she is more than happy to help me with my essays, and how I go about writing them (i think she described it as the thought processes of planning an essay)) that I'm struggling with English and I asked for some feedback on my essays as well as how I can implement feedback into my writing because of the issue isn't that i don't know what my weaknesses are, it's more like IDK how to improve them...so hopefully i get a response from one of them

Oh and a side note, my Monash Mentor is SO nice, and despite being nervous about meeting her (online ofc), I'm actually looking forward to working on stuff with her next session :)

Update - SAC Result: Text Analysis

The results were released an hour ago, and I am upset.
Admittedly I did better than I said I was expecting, but truthfully I set really low expectations because I don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed.
I did very poorly and I wasn't expecting a good score but by some miracle, I was hoping for a B and to get a C+ was good cause its not a fail but it is literally like 5% away from a B. I was so close to a score I would have been relatively happy with.

My old English teacher told me that I'm no good at English because I never did any practice Essays in Year 7 - 10.
That was a harsh, but true, fact.

Honestly, makes me want to get the 2020 English award for the highest study score

She also said that if i want to do well I need to write one of each type of essays a fortnight, which I know need to do.

I need to make it a habit, so, just like my fitness journal I'm going to write an essay every day leading up to my LA SAC on the 5th and write a text analysis essay, language analysis essay and a comparative essay every fortnight.

I'm going to, I complain about not being good enough and being the underdog but im not doing anything major to truly push my essays to a B,B+ or even an A level. I'm going to smash English and I'm not letting one horrible sac mark get me down and it will be the last horrible sac mark I ever receive. I'm not going to dejectedly talk about how i wish i had of tried really hard in junior school and how amazing a student I could be if i had because its bullshit, whats the point of talking about it? Its in the past and I have to move forward.

I want to do well and I just need to knuckle down and form this habit.

Hey J_Rho! It's great that you're so determined to improve. I understand what it feels like to not reach your goals, or just wish for that little bit higher. Regarding what your old English teacher said - that does not mean you can't change the quality of your essays! I certainly did not write any practice essays at that time, and I know many others who didn't either, but put in the effort now and are currently doing well. It's good you understand what your next steps are - but don't let what your teacher say define you. You have the time and ability to improve and nothing can change that! :)

I'm going to write an essay every day leading up to my LA SAC on the 5th and write a text analysis essay, language analysis essay and a comparative essay every fortnight.
It's great you want to write more essays! Writing an essay every day might be (quite) a difficult feat, and unless you are constantly receiving feedback, it won't be much help. Remember to take a break and relax too!

Good luck with your goals! :D

Hey J_Rho! It's great that you're so determined to improve. I understand what it feels like to not reach your goals, or just wish for that little bit higher. Regarding what your old English teacher said - that does not mean you can't change the quality of your essays! I certainly did not right any practice essays at that time, and I know many others who didn't either, but put in the effort now and are currently doing well. It's good you understand what your next steps are - but don't let what your teacher say define you. You have the time and ability to improve and nothing can change that! :)

Thank you for your reply, it means a lot!

I know It'll be difficult to write one every day (If i can't I'm aiming to do 4 this week) but hopefully, I will be able to mark my own, and get others feedback (plus I think I can do it cause there are 8 days till the SAC, I defs wouldn't want to try and write one every day for any longer than that!). The feedback I received from my teacher was not that I didn't understand what I was writing about but rather I just haven't practised the skill of writing an essay enough. I'm not overly stressed about the SAC as it is over 2 days, and I know that I'm going to be thinking about things overnight and hopefully I can produce something of reasonable quality.

Thank you for you words of wisdom, whys :) (you are truly wise, whys)

Update: Upcoming SACs

Tomorrow (Thursday)
Psychology SAC
How I'm Feeling
Nervous as because it's about some experiments on classical conditioning, operant conditioning and observational learning and the teacher is being very vague. We did an Edrolo topic test and he's locked the second one and he's known for using Edrolo topic tests for sacs no I'm super nervous because the test we did today was confusing. I'm not even sure how to revise, other than going over my notes. I got 84% on the last sac so I'm aiming for a 100% (expecting 85-90% max tbh)so I can brink my average up to 92% which is only 5% shy of my 97% goal.
What I'm Doing
I'm going to complete Checkpoints on conditioning, and the atar notes topic tests and keep revising my notes on conditioning and research methods
After SAC Thoughts
It was really easy. I know my teacher is a harsh marker, but I'm really confident I scored well. I was certain about my answers for all the questions except the last one which was worded badly but was only worth 2 marks. I think I'll defs lose marks for the way I've written??? Optimistic score estimate 98%; pessimistic score estimate 85%

Friday
Legal SAC
How I'm Feeling
Nervous fast, like I really really want to do super well and the teacher gave us practice questions and one of them was about the OPP and I was like W H A T like since when were we told to know anything about the OPP? So that's stressing me out, I've got notes on everything which im revising. I got a 82% on the first half so I'm aiming for a 100% (expecting 90% max) so that i can bring my average up to 91%, as my goal is 97 - 100%
What I'm Doing
Revise Notes
Finish off AOS1 Checkpoints
After SAC Thoughts
It wasn't a bad SAC tbh, it was all very 'identify one thing and discuss how it affects one of the POJ' i think worst case scenario 62% best case 90% I think I went well but I mentally mark myself and I mark harshly (ie. no mark if im at all unsure) so that's where the 62% is coming from haha
Biology SAC
How I'm Feeling
Not stressed at all, I have an idea of what I have to do in the SAC (its an essay) and its a modified version of the one I did last year i think.
What I'm Doing
Revising Notes
After SAC Thoughts
I think I went quite well really, but I'm still really nervous about my result because like I've done Bio b4 so like I have the expectation that I get 100% on everything

5th May
English Language Analysis SAC
How I Feel
I know what I need to do to improve my writing, but not to make it 'good'. I think I'm looking at a C at the best but I'm aiming for a B+, I'm really hating English at the moment but for sure in like a week I'll have changed my tune haha
I was writing a practice essay I'm class and
What I'm Doing
Writing an essay a day (trying to, realistically its one every two days)
Getting feedback from teachers and friends on my writing
Marking other peoples essays
After SAC Thoughts
I fucked it. I thoroughly fucked it. My LA was horrible it was rubbish and I could have done so much better look in the spoiler of a picture of it. I had a mind blank for a solid 10 min and ended up turning my would be 3rd paragraph into a shitty conclusion. It has got to be the most pathetic piece of writing I've ever done. sick of writing about Uluru tho like every piece my teachers have given us to practice with have been on Uluru bar one!

term two, week three: i had a creative name for the title but the bfg stole it while i was sleeping

03 May 2020

Ya girrrl. is tiiiirrreeeeDUH.
I hope everyone is good, and isolation isn't treating you too bad. Remember my inbox is open to anyone that needs to chat or vent, we're all in this together 💖
Also, I got paid by my work which is so good and I'm actually surprised I'm getting paid but its good because I've lost roughly 4 grand worth of income since the 16th of March (or whatever date was 2 weeks b4 schol holds) due to COVD-19 so I do feel that in some way I am deserving of it but I think the gov is changing the eligibility criteria and as I am living with my parents I no longer will be eligible.

Psychology:
So I had a SAC for this on Thursday and I don't know how I went, it wasn't insanely difficult so I'm worried that my responses won't be good enough to score well, but i havent cried over it yet so i think it ok. Next week we are moving on to the Atkinson Shiffrin model which I'm lowkey bored about as I've moved onto Unit 4 in my study and with this whole online learning stuff we are just doing worksheets which is annoying but I'm just working through textbook questions from Edrolo and Jacaranda and doing Checkpoints and Topic Tests because worksheets are annoying and IMO not that useful in comparison to exam style questions, prolly my least fav subject atm just because the way its being taught but like its online it honestly the best i think its gonna get in this situation
By the end of the week I want to have gotten halfway through U4 AOS1, but idk if edrolo is gonna take out videos with the study design amendments or tell us what we can disregard....so imma just keep learning it in my mind its almost better to like just learn everything and do praccy questions and just know that when preparing for the exam i dont have to study everything you know?

Biology:
The SAC was ok, I hope I went ok. It was a very weird SAC just because its an essay and the marking is weird so it is super hard to be certain I got all the marks....I think I went pretty well but I'm super nervous cause I want to get 100% like I feel like i have to cause this is my second year doing 3/4 Bio soooo...
We are starting on the immune system on Tuesday so that's good. Its super frustrating because my class is FULL of people who don't do the work at all its took us two weeks to get through chapter 8 because people were just NOT doing the work. All we are expected to do is watch Edrolo and complete the questions, which shouldn't take 2 weeks to watch 4 videos (that were 3 minutes, 27 minutes, 12 minutes and 15 minutes) and answer a handful of multiple-choice questions for each video. There are like 2 or 3 of us in the class that actually do the work, So I literally spent a week and a half going ahead because somehow it is so difficult to watch 1 hour worth of videos and do some questions over 10 hours of class time.
I want to finish Unit 3 this week so that's just Ch 9 and 10 so that's chill as, and do a few U3 practice exams

Further Maths:
I screwed up the sac that was like 2 weeks ago. Like i thoroughly screwed it up and i am so fucking pissed off at myself stupid mistakes like forgetting to answer the interpret part of a "plot a time series plot and interpret". ugh.
This is my favourite class at the moment, my teacher is so good and she is teaching our class the same way she would at school and its just working really well. She talks at the start of the class, presents her screen were she introduces the exercise we are going to work on explains formulas and processes and then tell us where she wants up to be up to by the end of the lesson. My teacher was super excited about a module being cut from the study design because it effectively gives us a whole another term, they haven't decided which module to do out of Matrices and Trig and tbh idk which I'd prefer...i like trig cause I've been doing it since year 7 but i know it'll be way harder and matrices is new as it didn't appear anywhere until gen maths and it sucked i just couldn't wrap my head around parts of it so i dont think i have an opinion either way. We started financial maths and are up to 8D in the Cambridge textbook and 5C in Edrolo and it is LITERALLY the same as Year 11 so I'm pretty pumped and i don't think its going to get much harder so im keen despite hating it last year (Year 11 Algebra come back please can i have another 100% mark again?). Aiming to finish Ch8 this week and maybe start on Ch9 which will put me a week ahead of everyone else because the teachers have basically allowed time for students to not do their work and I dont think doing 5 exercises in a week is that crazy esp when there's only like 3 or 4 questions set for each exercise.

English:
I think this teacher doesnt like me cause I asked her to look over an essay I wrote and she sounded annoyed that I was asking her to and I also asked her if she could tell us when we might get our practice SACs back and she sounded annoyed answering that too idk if its just me but hahaha don't think i care at this point because I'm kinda sick of her not giving feedback like I'm going to ask for feedback like 'I know my class doesnt expect much from you because very few care but I do so I'm sorry you have live up to what you said at the start of the year of if we put in the work to write practice essays and feedback you will put in the work to mark and give feedback.' Like I do get she teachers year 8's too but its not like im saying she needs to mark them NOW or today im just asking her to, at some point before the sac mark them pls and thanks like hell I'd be happy with very general feedback from looking at my essay briefly but i wanna improve. Sorry about that lil rant, i love my teacher but im getting a little bit frustrated but with all this online learning its defs so much harder for teachers but i think because we are isolated from a classroom setting its harder to seek feedback so IMO feedback now is more important than ever. I really do love this class like I love English and yeah i suck at but I'm trying and I am hoping maybe my hard work can pay off because I would LOVE English to be one of my top-scoring subjects like that is my ultimate utopian dream. SAC is on Wednesday and Thursday and I'm writing 2 essays today, one on Monday and maybe one on Tuesday. I'm really lucky to have 90 minutes so 1 class and a half to do it so that I can think about the article and everything overnight and we all know how good our skills are at finding flaws just as we are falling asleep, to that's a huge advantage to help me get that B+

Legal Studies:
SAC was wack, no idea how i went. There were no define questions. there wasn't a 8 or 10 marker. sooo haha I'm just a liiiiitttllllleee stressed but this teacher probably mark sacs faster than any other teacher (1 week, absolute max 2 weeks) so i should know by Friday or start of next week because this teacher is really good at prioritising year 12 work. We are doing civil law now and the sac is on the 29th so I'm making my content posters to put up in my room this week so im drilling content into my brain when im going my hair/makeup, or exercising or whatever and so basically hoping to finish U3 this week and do a like a 1/3 of civil law checkpoints and just relax and revise and not stress too much about the 2-hour civil law sac that is in like 3.5 weeks because I'm going to be hella prepared.

Extra curricular
I'm in the process of writing 4 articles for VicSRC about tips for online learning, how schools SRCs can support the wellbeing of staff and students, how can SRCs improve student engagement and voice and ways to 'stay sane' during this period of physical isolation which is super fun but a tad stressful but its fine cause I enjoy it! I'm also writing an article for ATARNotes which is grooooovy as too and im really excited to spent the next 2 sac free weeks working on these articles and some other projects.

Update: Bio SAC Results

OMFG IM MAD IM SO MAD.

I lost one mark on my biology sac

im so furious all because I didn't say osmosis was across a semi-permeable membrane cause I compared the similarities and differences of osmosis and diffusion and i was like oh nah saying semi-permeable twice is weird cause im explaining the differences i said semi permeable in the first half of the sentence AND SO I DELETED IT AND

IT
COST
ME
7%.

I am KICKING myself.
Like I should have done better, and if i hadn't have deleted those three goddamn words i would have been fine i would have been great I would have been equal rank 1. but no im just furious at myself and i want to cry because it was such a small stupid stupid mistake and i should have been more careful and read over it again

just

ugh

Like 15/16 is a good mark but I'm just so annoyed at myself for the silly mistake and I just have really really  high expectations of myself especially for this subject

That is a wicked awesome score! Congratulations that's fantastic!
It's a bummer that about the one mark, but it was just that, one mark.
I'm sure you'll get 100% next time!!!

Be proud of yourself!

Yeah, 15/16 is fantastic!! Don't worry, everyone makes stupid mistakes sometimes and in the end it will mostly come out in the wash. (Also is it like a part of a sac, like part 1? Because to have a science sac out of 16 marks sounds a little ridiculous. If so, you can totally make it up in the upcoming sacs)

15/16 is AWESOME! Its annoying that, that one mark dropped you percentage so much but I'm sure you will be able to get 100% on the next SAC!

Do you have any tips for bio? I'm doing 3/4 and I'm averaging 60%  :'(

Thank you Geoo! I'm feeling a better about the mark cause it is a good mark I think to say i was upset about my mark might have not been accurate cause I think I was (little bit still am) annoyed about my ranking. I've done 3/4 before like suuuurely I'd be rank 1 but its making me want to study really hard for my next sac which is on 5th June because imma smash it!
Thank you for your support

Hey CM!!
Hopefully I can smash everything else so that as you said it can mostly come out in the wash
Thank you for you reply it means so much!
I was a bit annoyed about the marking cause its not part 1, its the AOS1 sac. The sac used to be half of a larger one so in previous years you'd have to do 2 essays on 2 different pracs in 1 hour but they shortened it this year to only 1 essay on 1 prac in 1 hour so that prolly explains the marking.

15/16 is AWESOME! Its annoying that, that one mark dropped you percentage so much but I'm sure you will be able to get 100% on the next SAC!

Hey Saraoc!
Thanks for you reply, welcome to AN!
Dont be discouraged by your average and keep persisting and seeking feedback! You've got this!
In my signature just below this is a link called 'Tips for VCE Students' and I've got a section there on Biology, also you could search in google '50 in biology' and those articles usually have heaps of really good tips too! Heres a few;

Update: Yay no SACs for 2 weeks

Okay so now that I have no sacs for a little while I'm continuing my plan for my tutoring business. I'm now up to the stage of choosing a name and a domain and honestly, I've left this to the very last minute because I am hopeless at something up with names so I'm putting it out to you guys what name is best?? Or do you have an even better idea?
also, the tagline isn't legit, its shit I know so if you have any suggestions lemme know!

Option 1

My friend said he didn't like this one coz it sounded like a podcast ahhaha

The website and fb/insta pages and youtube channel haven't launched yet as I'm setting up posting schedules and creating content and of course figuring out the name let me know what you think!!

Hi J_Rho,

I love how you're so dedicated to planning your tutoring business! I wish I was as dedicated as you except, for now, I'm only doing like the "basic" tutoring services of editing/proofreading assignments and tutoring sessions. I'm also planning to do a website/a YouTube channel as well! Bu personally, I prefer Option 1 over Option 2 --> the fact that you used your name really "personalises" the tutoring experience which I think would enable customers/students to connect with your business more.

For the tagline, however, I would recommend writing from the heart. Yes, I know it's extremely cheesy but ultimately, your connection with your passion for tutoring would enable your students/customers to connect with you more! So maybe, your tag line could be a quote/mantra that you live by/inspires you to be you?

Hopefully, that helps! Good luck with your business -> I'm sure everyone will appreciate it and love it as much as I do!

Have a great week and kind regards,

Darcy Dillon.

term two, week four: finding my motivation again

11 May 2020

I'm finding my motivation again (touch wood), and I'm finally studying properly again. It only took a failed study timetable, an inspiring mentoring session and a cleanout of my bedroom to get me back into the swing of things. I have so little to report on like iso is so uneventful. On the 9th I meal prepped and made a lot of veggie soup, fruit salad, and banana oat biscuits and for Mothers day I made pancakes. ANDDD i found my old ebook reader which i haven't seen since like 2012. It still had charge and my CAS charger fits it and it has ALL the Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and Skulduggery Pleasant books on it! Reread the HP series for the 14th time in my life? YES PLEASE! Probably the most eventful thing since my last update haha!

Psychology:
So I'm up to Unit 4, but I don't really want to progress further without my class so at this stage I think I'm going to keep doing checkpoints, topic tests and questions from the Jacaranda and Oxford textbook (thanks for my illegal copies 2018 r/VCE). My teacher has made comments on my SAC and then I marked myself harshly against his comments. I think I'm going to be looking at 86% which I’m annoyed at but hopefully my actual mark is a little better! I made silly mistakes such as referring to the neutral stimulus as ringtone and then saying the conditioned stimulus was sound! If I hadn't messed up the last question I would have had time to read over my responses, but at least I got the 12 marker right! Let me know how you guys study for subjects like Psych!

Biology:
Still annoyed at my ranking but this is why I have finished Unit 3 so I can spend the next month studying for the SAC (I love my fellow classmates but fuck off this one's mine!). My class is so slow...they've spent 3 classes on 9A, which is IMO a little ridiculous cause it's a 15-minute video with 20 questions like I don't like complaining but its really annoying and when the teacher is like where are you up to and I'm like oh 9D he's like oh and then I get a disapproving look and sometimes told that its bad to work ahead like ohhhkaaaaayyy. I'm unsure of whether I should be doing checkpoints (would have to buy) to study for the sac or just do practice exams.... also are the AN Bio topic tests any good?

Further Maths:
I've finished Recursion and financial modelling and we haven't been told when the sac is so I'm going to do some checkpoints and my friend that graduated last year gave me her neap smart study exams which I am so so so grateful for. My teacher said we will probably get our SAC results end of next week at the earliest which is making me nervous like idk why I’m nervous like I did my best on the SAC but for some reason I don’t wanna see it? I hope hope hope I get above 95% but the pessimistic me reckons I’m going to get a 60 or 70%
How does everyone study for math sacs?????

English:
Pretty sure I cooked the LA SAC, but it's fine. Like i think I have a chance at a B but im not a hopeful person when it comes to results, so realistically i think im gonna get a C but i will not be surprised if i get an D+. On a better note, I'm not even trying not to toot my own horn but TOOT TOOT I'm fucking awesome at creative and presenting argument AND I'm already practising comparative essays (Ransom & The Queen) because we don't do comparative till term 4? I think? So I have so much time to get good at it. A+ grades from here on out? You fucking bet. I don't care if I have to write 100 essays I will get a god damn A+. Lowkey proud I've actually found the motivation to actually do stuff for English haha
Also my mentor has set me up with two uni students, one that did The Lieutenant and is a biomed student and the other is a global studies student and studied Station Eleven last year which I am SO grateful for.

Legal Studies:
The content is so chill I actually love it. I love walking into class and not having to use my MEGA BRAIN POWER to learn the content..hopefully U4 is just as chill (touch wood). The next SAC is on the 29th (not sure if it's online or in school) and I'm making content posters to put up in my room and a doing checkpoints. Are the AN Legal topic tests any good??? The resources for this subject are kinda limited which is a bit of a pain.

Monash Mentoring
My mentor is SO nice, she's set me up with some current uni students to tutor me in English that have studied the texts I'm doing which I'm lowkey nervous about and she's also happy to read over all the essays I've written this year and provide me with specific feedback and help me improve my essays overall. Also Monash has set up 'Connect with Monash' which is free, basically, you can join circles (kinda like FB groups) about things you might be interested in for me I'm in 5 circles; Paramedicine, Law, Applying through VTAC, Study Skills and Life at Monash. Within these circles you can ask questions of current students studying a course you might be interested in! You can sign up here

Extra curricular
So I've gotten two articles for VicSRC done, with 2 to go. My first article is being published on Thursday and you can find it on the Student Voice Hub. I'm also so close to finishing an article for ATARNotes which is neat as! and as you guys know, because I'm terrible at keeping secrets (wasn't supposed to tell till it was ready to launch), I'm developing a tutoring business...sounds weird calling it a business haha. But you aren't finding out any more until launch because I wasn't supposed to say anything. I also helped run training last week, my friend went through all the new jaws of life equipment and I did a very quick revision session on using a defib. I'm also helping @J_Wal with a very big and exciting project!

This Weeks Main To Do's
- Station Eleven Edrolo
- Ransom & The Queen Edrolo
- Analytical Essay - The Lieutenant

Hi J_Rho!

Long time no see but have you tried using the various topic tests and resources on TuteSmart? I was looking at those earlier today and I thought that it might be extremely beneficial for you and your studies :)

Have a great week and kind regards,

Mini Update:

Psych SAC Results
Okay so I just got my Psych result and I just want to cry. Like it probably the subject I care about the LEAST but I made so so so many silly mistakes and I got 82%. :'(
whats most annoying is that my friend had her textbook open and was texting me during the sac about how she knew nothing but it was fine cause she was just writing what was in the textbook and teachers say you're only cheating yourself but like its fucking annoying as! Like this friend does nothing, copies others assignments during the class its supposed to be handed in and scores better than me. oh well, she almost failed the first sac so like my ranking is better than hers.

Legal SAC Results
Imma go cry in the shower to make myself feel better, I studied so hard and yet I only came out with a 17/25 (68%) this was part B of AOS1 but it still sucks cause overall for AOS1 I've gotten 38/50 (76%). I'm trying to not let this get to me but I thought I would have done better, like legal is was one of my best subjects yet 17/25 is the lowest score I've gotten this year. I'm much better at civil so hopefully I can get a 100% if I study everyday till the 29th surely i can get at least a 97%

English Grade and Feedback - The Lieutenant Text Analysis SAC
So the grade I was told was C+ but didnt get my numerical score till today: 22.5/30 which is 75%
The feedback that I got was analysing deeper and expanding 2 sentence ideas into 4 or 5 sentence ideas so I'm going to do a page a day and analyse that page completely, cause I remember getting advice from someone on analysing the text one page at a time

on a positive note - I went to SES on Monday evening and we went an did a drive by happy birthday for some 9 year old boy, lights and sirens, and gave him a present and sung him happy birthday which was cute as
Oh and I'm still getting paid which I am SO RELIEVED about

Long time no see but have you tried using the various topic tests and resources on TuteSmart? I was looking at those earlier today and I thought that it might be extremely beneficial for you and your studies :)
Hey hey! I'm not with Tutesmart (super pricey) or do they offer resources that I'm not aware of...?

Hi J_Rho!

Yes, I have tried TuteSmart before but I definitely agree -- it's definitely too expensive for me to afford as I paid for my subscription with the job that I currently do not have any more. But I have just tried EdUnlimited and I think it's honestly so much better usability and functionality wise than TuteSmart! It's a lot cheaper too, so maybe you could use the various resources on EdUnlimited (the study guides, practice questions and text guides) to your advantage throughout your studies? It's just a suggestion but it has definitely helped me with my studies :)

Have a great week and kind regards,

Darcy Dillon.

EdUnlimited is very good, I had it for a while but i much prefer hardcopy books or at least being able to print things off (such as topic tests) and I've got some ATARnotes course notes and topic tests that got given to be by older friends so I did cancel my subscription. But I think I am definitely considering getting it again (when I get my job back) especially for the text guides and topic tests! Thanks for the suggestion I lowkey forgot EdUnlimited was a thing!

Okay so I just got my Psych result and I just want to cry. Like it probably the subject I care about the LEAST but I made so so so many silly mistakes and I got 82%. :'(
Hi J_Rho, this sucks so much (it's a shame your school doesn't have better policies or ways of regulating SACs at home). On a brighter note, 82 is not a bad score at all and you can be content with the fact that you got that score without cheating! As you already know, she'll do a lot worse on the exam and in general, what type of life habit is cheating? It doesn't set you up well for life at all.

It's great you've still got an income and you would have made that little boy so happy  ;D
Have a great week  8)

Don't worry too much about your sac results girl! Your drive and motivation come out in every post in this journal and I am sure you can still smash it!

With the cheating thing, I totally agree. I had a huge SAC for methods today and my friend texts me at the start of it asking how to do it, I just ignored it lol. And besides, the exams are pretty much the most important thing so cheating won't help for them :)

Welcome back for another week of 𝓾𝓼𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓾𝓹𝓭𝓪𝓽𝓮𝓼 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓭𝓲𝓭𝓷𝓽 𝓪𝓼𝓴 𝓯𝓸𝓻™
This week we will be discussing ⓣⓞ ⓓⓞ ⓛⓘⓢⓣⓢ and 𝔰𝔞𝔠 𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔲𝔩𝔱𝔰 with you one and only host ᴊ ʀʜᴏ
with excessive use of ɟɐuɔʎ ɟouʇs we all know you really dont (っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ love ♥

Okay so this week has been more productive than last BUT I would not call it productive at all.
My week has been busy but not busy at the same time which has been a bit weird.
Since my last update, this is what happened:

Work
Still no work or indication of when its opening again and i no longer have an income because im not 18 yet

VICSES Youth Member Network Meeting
- Had a meeting with other juniors to try and develop a plan to improve youth membership within the service
- So my tasks are to create a poll to organise the next meeting and make user guide/profile for each member
and I'm also helping another member create a survey to try and judge the main issues that are being experienced

Monash Mentoring
- Went through some of my language analysis pieces with my mentor and she gave me some really helpful feedback
- I need to plan out what the topics for the next few sessions are going to be and PLAN AHEAD and look ahead so
I dont do what i did today! I have an upcoming legal sac but instead of doing legal revision with her we did English stuff! But like the English stuff was 110% helpful though and eng is my worst subject soooo....
- Had a tutoring session for the lieutenant with a current Monash student which was SO HELPFUL and am supposed to have one with another Monash mentor for Station 11 tomorrow which im nervous about cause like my class has JUST started theme work for S11

SAC Results
 - Got my data analysis sac back and I'm lowkey annoyed at myself because I lost 6 marks....2 of which could have been EASILY avoided but no, I'm just stupid hehexd (34/40)
- Still waiting on my language analysis sac results....10/10 believe imma get a E or some shit

School and Upcoming assesments
- Have a legal sac first week back at school (29th May) and its a hour AND ITS OUT OF 50 MARKS fml
- bio sac was supposed to be in 3 weeks. class is useless so its been pushed back another 2 weeks
- Creative sac is in 4 or 5 weeks all i know is that its on my birthday week
- psychology teacher wont tell us when out next sac is which is A N N O Y I N G
Overall school is average, im just chilling and i c a n n o t wait to go baaaaaaack wooop woooop

To Do
- Make sure I'm up to date with everything
- Start integrating spaced repetition into my study
- chill and prep for school next week

Don't worry too much about your sac results girl! Your drive and motivation come out in every post in this journal and I am sure you can still smash it!

With the cheating thing, I totally agree. I had a huge SAC for methods today and my friend texts me at the start of it asking how to do it, I just ignored it lol. And besides, the exams are pretty much the most important thing so cheating won't help for them :)

term two, week 6: Who cares if it's only been 4 days since my last update

Welcome back to 𝓾𝓼𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓾𝓹𝓭𝓪𝓽𝓮𝓼 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓭𝓲𝓭𝓷𝓽 𝓪𝓼𝓴 𝓯𝓸𝓻™ edition #110

My weekend so far has basically involved no school work and I'm feeling kinda good about that. It's been kinda good to not do school work but at the same time I'm like I NEED TO BE SUPER PREPARED LIKE AS PREPARED AS POSSIBLE SO THEN I CAN FEEL SO ORGANISED AND TOGETHER AND PRETEND LIKE MY LIFE IS SO ORRRRRRGANIIIISED. AND NOT ONLY SCHOOL WORK PREPARED BUT LIKE MFKN SPA DAY AT HOME SO THEN I CAN WAKE UP TOMORROW FEELING LIKE A BRAND NEW FKN PERSON.  because maybe, just maybe I'll find the motivation to so a practice sac to prepare for my legal sac on Friday, because i was supposed to do this practice sac like 4 days ago and, its still sitting, on my desk, starting at me, as i continue, to put it off.

So today I had allocated time where I would spend working on regions for my legal sac.....I instead baked 2 types of muffins (apple + cinnamon and blueberry) and vanilla cupcakes. I am also in the process of par boiling potatoes because I decided that dinner is going to be roast potato, peas and carrot and gravy.

is my sac in 4 days? yes. should i be studying? yes am i studying? no. but thinking about it now im like F*******************K so am i going to cram (is it called cramming if its 4 days b4??) every day and neglect my other subjects? you fkn bet!

I've done at least one SAC for all my subjects and I'm just going to chuck down the cute little table i made to motivate me to do better each time. ofc my goal for all my next sacs is to score 100% but im not going to expect 100% cause sometimes i feel that the difference btwn a 95% and a 100% is luck to an extent. I actually find a source of motivation from this table as i have what the table currently looks like and then another picture of what the table would look like if i got 100% on all of my next sacs because i think we all know that really good feeling of scoring highly on something (and i know study scores are not calculated by average sac mark that is just my inspiration and motivation to maintain and average as close to 100% as i can get)
Where I'm At

Where I wanna be
(https://imgur.com/it6NyrN.png)

Okay so school goes back tomorrow and I'm pretty excited but like also nervous cause like I set a goal at the start of iso to exercise everyday and I haven't done that so I'm feeling really self-conscious about my body which is lovely. we all love that. the lesson plan for psych says "students apply AOS2 knowledge to exam-style questions" and we are all like....ummmm is it as sac? is it a test? is it a worksheet? WHAT IS IT!!!! So lowkey stressed about that but like its fiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. I'm pretty sure im up to date with all my subjects so I'm not too worried i just need to stay determined and motivated to push through and end this term on a high because i have like a sac for every subject before the end of term so i gotta do my mf best and like term 2 is basically the last legit term like term 3 is basically finishing u4 and term 4 is revision so like hahahhahaha halp!

tl;dr - im going to only be on here to post questions on the TYU threads (which I've failed as so fucking bad - who knew putting up weekly questions for 2 subjects could be so time consuming?) and I'll be back at the end to the term ish

Mini Update
I've well and truly fallen off the discipline and productivity bandwagon. I feel swamped with schoolwork and I'm in a constant state of tiredness and on top of that, I've got a cold which meant that I missed my legal sac and slept for 14 hours and then napped most of Friday and today, and I'm still exhausted. going back to school has tbh been great but also shit cause now i feel very stressed and very worn out. Plus I feel horrible I've fallen slack on the Test Your understanding and LA Club threads😭. Iso felt like summer holidays except you HAD to do school work. I have so much to do but no energy to do it. But I might do Chloe Tings 4 Week Summer Shred tho... maybe exercise will help me feel better. And that's the end of my update! Adios :)

Hey J_Rho, please don't feel so bad for yourself. I've failed miserably in pursuing my targets this year. But I've come to understand myself more as a learner and how fatuous my fallacies have been (this literally denotes how lost I was or am lol). On a positive note, what you did for the kid's 9 year old birthday was very sweet and must have felt very rewarding in these times we're in. I'm sure he's gonna remember it for a lifetime! :)

Definitely get on that exercise plan, it defs will help you build up some consistently.

Don't give up J Rho! We believe in you! Prove them wrong :D

Don't be so hard on yourself! I know that is easier to say than do, but take a breather. The tiredness and the cold aren't helping, and your body can only do so much. Be kind you self and just pace your way through. Have you spoken to the teacher about the legal SAC? Can you retake it?
The test your understand and LA Club is amazing additions to the forums, but your health and VCE come first, you'll have more time to do them as time goes on. I hope you start to feel better soon, and I also hope that you find some energy! Thanks for the mini update .

Update:
This week started shit and ended pretty good.
I was sick and didn't go to school Monday - Wednesday, Thursday I had a Psych SAC and Friday was chill. I went to Fountain Gate to get some clothes for my 18th party and then went out again to a different place to do grocery shopping and i also got an Instax Mini 11 which i thought would be cute for my party. Tomorrow I plan on doing a heap of study for legal, as I have the sac after school on Tuesday which I'm hella nervous for )':

I bought two tops cause I couldn't decide which one to get (oop), and now idk what 'colour theme' to go with for the balloons, because idk if emerald and rose gold go together PLUS i have heaps of silver jewellery, so like maybe i go with silver BUT rose gold is very cute colour. My folks have been really good like my mum esp has been like yeah whatever and theres no rules like "dont go in the house" etc which I'm surprised about tbh.

Now onto the fun stuff - school.

Legal
Okay so as aforementioned have a Legal SAC on Tuesday. Was sick from Friday - Wednesday and Thursday and Friday I was still pretty wiped out and went to bed at 6 pm and didn't get much studying done, so alas I have right now and tomorrow to work with.
I am going to revise my notes tonight and in the morning and then do a practice sac and mark it, do some revision on my weak areas and do some checkpoints and do a quizlet or something.

English
I also got my LA SAC mark, which I thought would AT LEAST be a C+ (my tutor estimated a B) but NO i got a fucking C and I'm furious. enough said. at this point, if i don't get an A+ on my creative I'm gonna give up. im already *this* close haha.

Maths
Okay so like, I've done no maths in like a month and the sac is in like 2 weeks hehe xd gotta get my shit together

Psych
I really do not care for this subject atm. the sac was wack asf and memory and learning sucks.

Bio
Only subject that I like. teacher is good, ppl are good, content is good, grades are good but like need to revise for the sac that's in like 11 days.

Don't be so hard on yourself! I know that is easier to say than do, but take a breather. The tiredness and the cold aren't helping, and your body can only do so much. Be kind you self and just pace your way through. Have you spoken to the teacher about the legal SAC? Can you retake it?

Hey J_Rho!

Happy Birthday (whenever that may be!...welcome to adulthood!)
That instax will be such a cute idea to get some polaroids for your birthday!
I like the emerald and rose gold idea, have you thought about maybe adding white as well to soften it maybe? Maybe have a look on Pinterest for some inspiration or the look if anyone has done it before.
Hope the party is fun!

Update: i wanna be 🚨 aMbOlanCe 🚨

ok so i've been thinking about what imma do after year 12 and i know i want to continue volunteering for vicses, and swim teaching and i think im set on becoming a paramedic. but like getting into ambulance victoria is competitive asf and i really dont want to do st johns but one of my friends is an ambulance community officer which i found out i can do! ACO's get paired with a paramedic or two aco's respond to the same job as a paramedic and the acos do the paramedics job until they get there. point of it is that rural areas dont have ambos in every town but still need god response times and to help ppl in a timely fashion so in short ACO's do the volunteer version of a paramedics job which is cool as AND i can apply in 6 days. The process of becoming qualified is lengthy but it sounds so cool and im sure it'll make me way more qualified to get into AV! cert 2 in Medical practice and 100 hours of training? sure?
I'm actually keen to apply and see if i can get in and its making me motivated to do better in school but at the same time its also making me feel like of its fine theres roundabout ways to do it but no Monash is legit the only credible uni imo that provides paramedicine and i gotta get in the median atar this year was 85 so 90+ atar here i come!!

tl;dr - applying to be an ambulance community officer and im keen to see if i can get in

Hey Lex!
Thank you for the reply it means a lot!!
I've looked at Pinterest and i think imma go with rosegold and white/clear balloons and wear my emerald green top.
My birthday is next Wednesday which is crazy as it feels like yesterday i was like "in 5 years i can get my learners" and its been like 7-8 years since then its crazy as!!!

Update: One more week

Song of the Week
Stolen from ashmi hehe - I couldn't decide which one so here's 2!!
Extra curricular
Okay first list item: rona.
My party has been postponed. Not mad. Know its necessary but at the same time, i feel like i can't have a party in the hols before exams. so that leaves me waiting until summer. ie. Late Dec early Jan. which is lowkey annoying cause that's like 6 months away. I also really feel for my friend who was gonna have his party the weekend after mine and he'd already had to postpone it his bday was in APRIL. Kinda sad that we cant go out drinking three weekends in a row w/o (point isn't getting drunk all hols more going out and hanging with everyone and not feeling guilty) feeling like we should be studying but oh well. But like also its not nesscecarily a bad thing that i cant get on the beers for 3 Saturdays in a row cause like revisions and getting ahead and re reading English texts you know??? overall not that mad.

next agenda item: Ambulance Victoria
I expressed my interest on Thursday and like im supposed to get an email back in 21 days and boy can i tell you, these days are going slowly!

3. ses
Had face to face training which was SO GOOD. but that prolly wont happen again anytime soon due to restrictions going back on which is sad and sucks and like training is kinda necessary being an emergency service.

4. Work
Still no work - pool is open but like im not rostered on cause I am more experienced at Swim teaching then lifeguarding so the more experienced (and ones that have to pay rent) lifeguards are getting shifts first. I'm 18 now so like hopefully I can get jobkeeper again. I don't NEED it but it would really help me not to stress about moving down to Melbourne to study because atm all the money i have is going to be going towards a car and if i get into uni i need accommodation and fuel and to buy the stuff i need for uni.

final item - P's
My local vicroads only has a backlog of 1 month (apparently) so its estimated that in 2 - 3 months I'll be able to go for my p's, plus i can apply for an exception and get put on the priority list because i have to travel anywhere btwn 20 - 45 minutes to get to work and if i get into ambulance Vic, then ill have to travel anywhere btwn 30 min - 1.5 hours depending on where i get assigned to. I need a few (4 or 5 i think) hours and I'm going to get a few driving lessons a week over the school holidays so i can get my p's asap because you know, travelling for work and shit.

English:
wooo English. i have a creative which is supposed to be 800+ words AND SOI and I've only got 400 and NO SOI and its due on Wednesday. I've only got 2 more classes to do it eek! Imagine trying to get and A+ hahaha what a clown. Wish me luck.
Also mad that the year 12 eng teachers are useless if giving feedback - they gave us a talk saying "if u put in the effort to do praccy essays we'll put in the effort to mark them and give you feedback" and so I've handed in essays. and nothing. not even acknowledgement. so i think im just going to have to be annoying and ask them every class if they've had a chance to look at it. Also going to go to Monday study club every week and use that as a chance to get essay feedback. ie. hi English teach can you read over this and give me pointers? and then cause its right there and then maybe ill get feedback?? Also think im going to have to ask my year 7, 9 and 11 teachers if she would mind having a look over some of my essays if they have the time.

Psychology:
Idek. had a sac a while ago. was an experimental investigation. haven't got results back. don't really care tbh. love the content but the class/teacher is shitting me really glad its almost holidays.

Legal Studies:
got sac results back for civil and I am not happy, to say the least I got 38/50 (76%) which is really bad. The only part I'm happy about is that I got 9/10 on the 10 marker. We've moved onto U4 AOS1 and have gotten through quite a bit of it which is good, I need to keep up to date with my Edrolo notes for this subject and start doing solid revision

Further Maths:
Maths. haha...where do I start? I haven't done a solid study session for maths since the beginning of online learning. I've been doing bare minimum and I have a sac tomorrow and I'm not confident in anything - all the maths flew out of my brain (so much for finishing financial early to get ahead and do loads of revision) So today my plan is to
- Watch Edrolo videos to revise
- All Cambridge Questions Ch 8, 9 & 10
- All Financial Checkpoints
- Neap Smart Study Exam Financial Questions

Biology:
Did U3 AOS2 SAC on Friday, and I think I did really fucking well? I think worst case scenario I lost 1 mark in MC and 6 in Extended response and the best-case scenario would be full marks or like dropping 1 or 2 marks but I don't want to get my hopes up cause I don't wanna be sad. but i think i did very well and the sac itself was very chill apart from when I forgot what the 1st stage of the inflammatory response was (its initiation guys) but i remembered and its fine. The teacher was like oh no we cant move onto U4 in the last week but I'll set you some U4 holiday homework thoooo.

Only a few more days guys, and then its holidays! Phew!! We can do this! 7 more school days!

Exam Timetable
not mad - knew bio and further 1 would be on the same day cause like its been like that for years but at the same time i hate how i have 4 exams in week 1, 1 in week 2 and 1 in week 3. i dont understand why vcaa clumps popular subjects together but whatever

Study Scores
Dream Scores
English - 42
Further - 50
Bio - 50
Psych - 48
Legal - 48
ATAR: 99.15

Slightly More Realistic Dream Scores
If theres one thing i know is that i want really good scores in Eng, Math and Bio
English - 40
Further - 45
Bio - 50
Psych - 35
Legal - 35
ATAR: 94.45

The most realistic scores that you'll ever see in my journal
English - 32
Further - 40
Bio - 45
Psych - 30
Legal - 30
ATAR: 82.70

Yo I believe in you! You can get a 90+ and get in Paramedicine at Monash.

Thank you TD!!

Hey J_Rho! ;D

(OMG it's another update!!)

(I absolutely love the song of the week choices it's SOOOO good! This was the first thing I've listen to this morning and I love it! ;D)
It sounds like there is so much going on in extracurricular wise (Whoop whoop go gets those P's queen! You are like a total inspiration with the amount you do outside of school)

First off, you can 100% get that A+ for English. I absolutely believe in you and can totally understand the feedback problem. Also, 9/10 for a 10 marker in Legal? THAT'S AMAZING!! Further Maths Financial unit can be a killer sometimes. It's hard to get your head around it at first, but once you do it can become really easy. (If you need help gimme a buzz). Also, congrats on doing so well in Bio! That's an achievement on its own and take some time to celebrate :D.

Loving the dream study scores and I completely believe in you that you can achieve them! You are super hard working and just an overall determined person and you can get there :D. Thanks for the update J_Rho and I'm really looking forward to another one in the future💖.

Update:End of Term & SAC Reflections

Song of the Week
more sofi tukker songs, i just want to share all their songs with you they are so good, I love how they create the boppiest tunes and sing in so many different languages, the 2nd song repeats the title of the song more than a few times so if you dont like it, i would refrain from watching it

English:
I have decided i need to be annoying as fuck in order to get essay feedback. so yep imma write essays and nicely demand they mark them. I finished my creative yesterday and I'm actually quite happy with how it turned out! For holiday homework we were assigned to read the texts but i also want to watch the edrolo videos for the texts and re-read the lieutenant because i think thats the one im going to do in the exam?

Psychology:
Still waiting on sac results - going to do chapter 9 over the holidays

Legal Studies:
Over the holidays I want to finish U4 AOS1 and start revising for the August SAC

Further Maths:
Bruh i think i did so bad! They said they made both parts of the sac so it would be too hard to finish the whole thing in the allotted time but i thought it was an exaggeration but NO i at least lost 8 marks from not being able to finish each part in the allotted time. I'm terrified of getting my results :'(
Over the holidays I'm going to do the edrolo matrices work and maybe if i have the time/energy start of textbook questions. I also need to send my teacher photos of my financial textbook exercises tomorrow so i can get an S as I'm not at school tomorrow (Yay for doing my RSA by Zoom)

Biology:
Okay so turns out I lost 4 marks on the SAC, I'm really happy but at the same time annoyed for not scoring higher - does anyone elses feel this/ Like being very happy with a mark but being disappointed in the mark too?. Idk where I lost the marks, but okay 93% average wooooooork and idk anyone elses marks so IDK where im ranked...we'll see! Im going to finish Unit 4 over the hols and start on some practice exams because boy this is my second year doing it and if i dont get a 50 imma punch a b***hbe sad

I've been writing up an exam revision timetable (starting Monday) and pencilling in topics i need to revise and essays im going to write. I know if i dont start now im going to put it off untill its 'too late'

Hey J_Rho!

OMG THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY ❤️ it means so much especially coming from you! I love reading your journal
I hope i can go for my p's soon - Exemptions no longer make you a 'priority' so im a tiny bit stressed but hopefully VicRoads will sort everything out and start testing people again. Hope you enjoy your evening ashmi!

Update:Holidaaaaaays

Alright so basically I really haven't done much holiday homework, Sat-Mon was chilling and the I went and looked at a car on Wednesday and then yesterday I got a little bit done, and then I had SES training. I also found myself a car for 1.5 grand and my mechanic friend said that he'd look over it and fix any minor issues (he can't see really any issues at all (its in flawless condition for a 20-year-old car) which is good) and then send it off for roadworthy. I think its a total steal because it's in near perfect condition and if it passed roadworthy it's only going to cost me just shy of 3 grand which is amazing considering I was going to go buy a 5 grand car this weekend!

English:
I've not done much for this subject yet. I've watched The Queen twice, but am yet to finish Ransom - I need to do that ASAP!!
To do
- read and annotate ransom
- theme posters!
- metalanguage posters

Psychology:
I caaaaaanot be bothered with this at all. At all. I just need to get through the set holiday homework, and it'll be fine but i cannot find the energy for this subject atm.
- Edrolo chapter 9

Legal Studies:
hahahahahahaha. Ive done nothing. on the horizon i see nothing. i really need to knuckle down.
- u4 aos1 edrolo

Further Maths:
I haven't started matrices but im slowly making my way through the list of things i need to do.
- matricies edrolo

Biology:
Probably the only subject I've done work for haha!
-unit4 notes
- 1x practice exam

What a steel! That's awesome that you found a such a gem of a car! Do you mind if I ask the colour?
So far you have done alot more than me, so that's great that you have been able to get stuff done.
How is SES training? I'd imagine it would be very demanding and quite labor intensive.
Enjoy the rest of your holidays and I hope you get everything you want to get done!
