Title: 🎉 ATAR Notes Honour Board - Hall of Fame, MVPs and Members of the Month 🎉
Post by: Joseph41 on November 13, 2017, 06:02:59 pm
As you know, it's an ATAR Notes tradition to hold an end-of-year awards ceremony. The basic idea is to acknowledge everybody (not just those who receive awards or who are explicitly mentioned) who contributed to ATAR Notes in that given year. Ultimately, without all of you, ATAR Notes just... wouldn't be ATAR Notes haha.

But it's important, too, to recognise past winners, for each and every one of the members below has made a significant and meaningful contribution to this community of ours. This thread will serve that very purpose!

The 2013 AN Awards
In the first AN Awards since 2010, more than 100 votes were counted. lzxnl was voted the 2013 MVP, with an Honourable Mention being awarded to lollymatron. lzxnl is still active to this day, and has amassed more than 3,000 posts since joining ATAR Notes in June 2012. The Class of 2013 MVP was awarded to Alwin, who is now one of our most experienced ATAR Notes lecturers. Other prolific winners included brenden (English Most Helpful, Most Insightful/Wise, Most Supportive/Motivating) and pi (IRC MVP, Admissions Test Most Helpful, Funniest Member, Scariest Moderator), who now have more than 20,000 posts between them.

The 2014 AN Awards
2014 was literally lauren's year, voted AN MVP. Stick was awarded an Honourable Mention. In his opening post, Brenden summed it up nicely: "Lauren probably won all the awards anyway (inc. the ones she wasn't nominated for)." It was a decent prediction, too, because she also picked up the English Most Helpful award. Zealous won the 2014 MVP award, and is also one of our best-known lecturers. Brenden backed up the Most Insightful/Most Supportive double, whilst keltingmeith picked up Maths Most Supportive and Science Most Supportive.

The 2015 AN Awards
In 2015, it was all about the #bangalibandwagon, as heids took home the ATAR Notes MVP. She was also voted Health and PE Most Helpful, Most Insightful and Most Supportive in what was a pretty incredible year personally. Orb was given an Honourable Mention for both overall MVP and Class of 2015 MVP. zsteve - possibly our best-known current lecturer - took out the 2015 MVP award.

The 2016 AN Awards
For the first time, and very excitingly, the 2016 AN Awards covered both Victoria and New South Wales. Our 2016 MVPs were zsteve and ssarahj respectively. heids was again voted Most Supportive and Most Insightful, whilst Swagadaktal was deemed the funniest member. In an upset for the ages, Ask Monash University was awarded Most Helpful in the University of Melbourne Boards (thanks, Alter).

The 2017 AN Awards
2017 was a huge year for ATAR Notes - both Victoria and New South Wales, with great development in both states. The Victorian MVP was K888, with Jess1113 taking out the NSW iteration. It was a strong year with many deserving winners, reflected by several Honourable Mentions. sudodds pipped Calebark for Funniest Member by the smallest of margins (hehe), whilst elysepopplewell was deemed Most Insightful. In his last full year as a National Moderator, Aaron picked up Scariest Mod - nice work, dude!

Since February 2017, we have also recognised the Members of the Month for both Victoria and New South Wales. Throughout each calendar month of the year, Moderators select a user that has been helpful, friendly, and contributes to the positive vibes of ATAR Notes overall. What does this mean, exactly? Well:

- Answering questions on subject boards;
- Creating great discussion threads (education-related or otherwise);
- Helping out new users;
- Writing guides (whether that be subject-specific, uni-related or whatever else);
- Being a generally top-end person.

The inaugural winners were kiwiberry in New South Wales, and Shadowxo, who were both ATAR Notes Moderators less than a year later. A complete list of winners can be found below:

PAST NSW WINNERS:
Spoiler
2017: kiwiberry (inaugural), rodero, sssona09, MisterNeo, Wales, dancing phalanges, Opengangs, fantasticbeasts3, blasonduo, potatohater, Mada438.

PAST VIC WINNERS:
Spoiler
2017: Shadowxo (inaugural), Syndicate, cookiedream, Quantum44, zhen, VanillaRice, GalacticProcess, miniturtle, clarke54321, AngelWings, PhoenixxFire.

Don't you just love how the NSW inaugral winner eventually became a lecturer?

Title: The ATAR Notes Hall of Fame || Inductees 19-22 Announced 🎉🎉🎉
Post by: Joseph41 on February 23, 2018, 12:14:57 pm
At time of writing, ATAR Notes recently turned ten years old, and has never been in a better position than it is right now. The AN Community is thriving across two states, and hopefully more in the future. The current crop of users is the closest I've ever seen, and we're welcoming new members into the Community literally every day - this is my favourite part of it all.

But it's very, very important to recognise the multitude of contributions made by members of yesteryear - the users who set up ATAR Notes, saw it develop, and fostered it in such a way that where we are now is possible. We should recognise these members for their tireless and selfless contributions to the Community, even if some of these names are unfamiliar to you at first. I guess that's the point - we don't want them to be unfamiliar. They should be written in the history of ATAR Notes forever, and that's why we're establishing the:

🎉 ATAR Notes Hall of Fame 🎉

I am extremely excited to give each of the inaugural members the recognition they deserve. There are 22 inaugural members, and each of these will be presented over the next couple of weeks.

Our very first inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame is Eriny. Eriny was the 26th ever member of ATAR Notes, which is impressive considering there are more than 210,000 members at time of writing. Eriny made almost 3,000 posts across ~six years of activity, contributing primarily in the Victorian Education Discussion and Rants and Politics boards.

Eriny's first post was the very first reply to the very first thread in ATAR Notes' history, highlighting their presence right from the beginning of the site. Based on that post, you can see how far ATAR Notes has come:

Brainstorm: over the summer, do you think it would be a good idea to work on a group project type thing where there is a website for each (well, probably not every) VCE subject with course/exam advice and overviews of all the vital knowledge and stuff like a study guide, maybe even practise exams created by past high-achieving students? Even if it were free, the ad space would collect some money...

Anyway, that was my random outburst for today.

ALSO, get a lot of the screenshot provided in this Eriny-made thread. 😂 How times have changed! Eriny was included as one of the first batch of Honorary Moderators in May 2013 after moderating the site for a long period.

So, please join me in welcoming our very first Hall of Fame inductee: Eriny.

Our second Hall of Fame inductee is EvangelionZeta, who has their ten year anniversary on ATAR Notes later on this year. EvangelionZeta made their first post in late 2008, and their last post (at the moment ;)) some eight years later, so their ~2,500 posts have come across a very long period.

The majority of EvangelionZeta's posts have come in the Victorian Education Discussion, VCE English & EAL and Other General Discussion boards, but Literature was also a favourite - no surprise considering their Premier's Award in the subject! One of their first threads was organising ATAR Notes (then VCE Notes) karaoke - yep, you heard right! ;D See here.

EvangelionZeta was one of ATAR Notes' first moderators. They became a National Moderator in late 2009 (just a year after their first post), and has held the role of Honorary Moderator - like Eriny - since May 2013.

So, please join me in welcoming our second Hall of Fame inductee: EvangelionZeta.

Like Eriny, Fyrefly is one of ATAR Notes' very first members. In fact, member #23, joining literally the day after the site was established. In the decade since, Fyrefly has made more than 4,500 posts, with more than 400 posts in each of the Monash University, Other General Discussion and Victorian Education Discussion boards. At time of writing, this places Fyrefly #14 on the list of all-time posters - a truly mammoth effort. They were still well and truly active until the end of 2015.

FyreFly handed over the position of National Moderator in May 2013 and, like our first two inductees, have held the position of Honorary Moderator ever since.

So, please join me in welcoming our third Hall of Fame inductee: Fyrefly.

Gloamglozer is our fourth inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame, and a very deserving one. Gloamglozer joined the forums in late 2008, and made their first post soon the next year. Their second ever post noted their subjects in the thread "VNers doing VCE '09" - quite a while ago now (the site was even called "VCE Notes"!).

Over their time on ATAR Notes, Gloamglozer was most active on the University of Melbourne board. However, they were also prolific in the VTAC Discussion board, and had the pertinent custom title "The Walking VTAC Guide". At time of writing, Gloamglozer's most recent post was three years ago, but their impact on the community was and has been considerable; they were ever helpful, with great threads like this one.

Gloamglozer was a National Moderator from December 2009 until May 2013, and has held the position of Honorary Moderator since that time.

So, please join me in welcoming our fourth Hall of Fame inductee: Gloamglozer.

Our fifth inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame is the legendary Mao.

With more than 9,000 posts to their name, Mao is currently the third most prolific poster of all time, behind only TrueTears and pi. Coupled with the fact that Mao was one of the first contributors to the site, joining less than a month after its inception, Mao's place in the Hall of Fame is well-deserved. In their time on ATAR Notes, Mao also created a mammoth 330 threads: the second most of all time.

Mao was most prolific in the VCE Maths Methods and, especially VCE Chemistry boards, with a huge 2,000 posts combined just across those boards. This makes Mao one of the site's biggest ever contributors to our VCE maths and science boards, which is considerable when you think of all of the contributors who have come and gone across the years.

Mao was a National Moderator for just under a year, and became an Honorary Moderator in February 2014.

So, please join me in welcoming our fifth Hall of Fame inductee: Mao.

Number six? Russ, who has been a constant ever since I joined ATAR Notes, and is still relatively active on the forums. 👌

Russ has the fourth most posts of all time (at the moment, at least (#Jamon)), many of which have been in the University of Melbourne, VCE Biology and General University Discussion boards.

Russ made one of our most upvoted threads of all time, titled "Medicine FAQ / So You Want To Be A Doctor". This is definitely worth a read if you're considering or currently studying medicine.

AND Russ was the one who started what has since become ATAR Notes' most successful thread. Ever. Namely, the UoM General Chat thread, which now currently has 17,850 replies and 2,083,507 views. Absolutely absurd!

Russ has also provided an older head for numerous batches of new moderators, and has done a stellar job in always providing perspective and balanced reasoning. Russ was a National Moderator for several years before becoming an Honorary Moderator in May 2013.

So, please join me in welcoming our sixth Hall of Fame inductee: Russ.

Our seventh Hall of Fame inductee is shinny, who, despite having not posted in 4.5 years, is still comfortably in the top 20 posters of all time. shinny was most prolific in the VCE English, Victorian Education Discussion and VCE Biology boards, but was also a great presence across the Methods, Chemistry and Spesh boards, demonstrating a wide breadth and involvement in the site.

shinny joined ATAR Notes in mid-2008, and went on to win the site-wide MVP in 2010: an award recently won by the likes of literally lauren, heids, zsteve, K888 and Jess1113. Their very first post was in June, 2008, helping out with VCE Biology (holding a raw 49 study score the year prior):

just following on from what he said, i did bio last yr (and  got less than him, but ill just say not much less =P) and yeh, hes dead on with the advice

after doing many practise exams, ull start to find the same questions repeating over and over again, and u DEFINITELY should prepare generic answers for these that would get full marks somewhere and memorise ur wording for them as it saves u ALOT of time during the exam. with the not doing exams under time conditions, i didnt do that either near the end because there are so many practise bio exams available since the course hasnt changed that much recently that its almost impossible to do every single one...so what i did was pretty much on the last day, do the multi choice, think about the short answer quetions in my head, and then read the solutions for about 25 (yes i had 25 spare). this saves ALOT of time and gives u a much greater exposure to the types of questions that will come up, and particularly if ur not too good at the application of theory, then just exposing urself to the sorts of questions that can come up is quite useful

In total, shinny spent nearly 200 days in total on ATAR Notes - a mammoth effort, and one to be recognised.

So, please join me in welcoming our seventh Hall of Fame inductee: shinny.

To put the impact of TrueTears in context, I have a friend who hasn't used ATAR Notes in 7-8 years, and remembers nothing of it bar TrueTears' help. That's pretty incredible if you think about it, and is part of the reason why TrueTears is our eighth inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame.

I'm honestly not even sure where to start with TT. At time of writing, 16,344 posts. That's only ~400 posts less than Jamon, Brenden and Lauren combined. TrueTears is the most prolific poster on ATAR Notes of all time: ~2,000 posts ahead of the next best, and ~7,000 posts ahead of #3. Just think about that for a moment!

+640 respect. And that's respect accumulated before the recent respect inflation - very, very commendable indeed.

Almost 2,000 posts in the VCE Methods board alone. ~1,300 in VCE Spesh. ~1,000 in VCE Maths. ~700 in Physics. ~600 in Chemistry.

TrueTears has literally helped thousands and thousands and thousands of VCE students. I guess the funny thing is that TrueTears' first post was actually asking for math help. I like that; it really demonstrates the cyclical nature of ATAR Notes. People like TrueTears are a huge part of why and how ATAR Notes can continue to exist.

TrueTears was a National Moderator from late 2009 until May 2013, and has been an Honorary Moderator since. And the best bit is that, almost ten years later, TrueTears is still around! ;D

So, please join me in welcoming our eighth Hall of Fame inductee: TrueTears.

Our ninth inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame is pi. Our first inductee genuinely active in the modern era, pi is an absolute legend of the ATAR Notes Forums. Tellingly, pi is our first inductee to have joined after 2008, signing up to ATAR Notes in July, 2010.

pi has made in excess of 14,000 posts, largely in the Victorian Education Discussion (~2,000), VCE Methods (~800) and UMAT (~750) boards. In excess of 500 posts in the Sport, VCE English, VCE Chemistry, VCE Specialist Maths and VCE Biology boards paints a picture of how influential pi has been in the last ~8 years.

Of pi's very many threads, perhaps the most successful has been this: How university works. With +110, it is, to my knowledge, the most upvoted thread of all time.

A long-time moderator, pi has held Honorary Moderatorship since October 2013. Until recently, pi held the record for most-respected user of all time, with +2,301 respect (as with TrueTears, accumulated before the recent respect inflation).

As recently as December last year, pi was helping out with amazing posts like this, this and this.

So, please join me in welcoming our ninth Hall of Fame inductee: pi.

Inductee #10, taiga, has some fancy red trimmings. "Why is that?" we hear you cry. Well, become taiga is a former Administrator of ATAR Notes, and that deserves special recognition. This will be consistent for any other former or present Administrators inducted into the Hall of Fame.

After joining ATAR Notes in November 2009, taiga made their first post in the VCE Geography board, and made more than 4,000 more after that, largely in the Victorian Education Dicussion, VCE Methods and Monash University boards.

taiga played a big role in the development of ATAR Notes, and is very much a worthy inductee.

thushan. Perhaps the most well-known VCE graduate of all time. Seriously. And also one of the best-performing VCE graduates ever.

But thushan is our 11th inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame for their contributions to the forums, which have been many. With 4,977 posts, thushan was only knocked out of the top ten posters of all time as recently as this week. A respect count of +614 (again, pre-respect inflation) is absolutely nothing to be sneezed at. Little did we know after this early post what sort of impact thushan would have.

A bit late, but I just joined the site now. So yeah, i'm in this year.

Along with literally lauren, thushan is ATAR Notes' most experienced lecturer, and has absolutely excelled in that role. thushan is also the author of many of our VCE study guides. More than 900 posts in the VCE Chemistry board alone shows the sort of contribution thushan has made to ATAR Notes.

thushan was a National Moderator from September 2012 until January 2014, and has been an Honorary Moderator since. There honestly isn't much to say about thushan that hasn't been said before. But if you're reading this and don't know about the thushan legend, just know that they have made a monumental impact on numerous aspects of ATAR Notes.

So, please join me in welcoming our 11th Hall of Fame inductee: thushan.

Yep, as Sine suggests above, 22 inaugural members. :)

The idea is that site leaders will be able to review this long into the future, and add members as deemed appropriate. Not to ruin the suspense, but these inaugural members are Honorary Moderators, who have served the forums extremely well in the past.

how did "honorary moderator" get its name?

1. Yes, sometimes.
2. Previous leaders of the site came up with it as a way to respect "retired" moderators.

If you want to continue this conversation, please message me privately. I encourage people to post in this thread and engage with the ATAR Notes champions ;), but I don't want it to become cluttered with unnecessary posts.

Oh, we're lurking more than you might expect ;)

Someone recently told me about this thread. Thanks to the AN leadership crew for this honour, it's really great to see some of the users who used to help me back in VCE (... 7-8 years ago!) get a bit of attention again. What some of those users did on this site was phenomenal and they laid the platform for the great resource that AN is today. To be among them is a real privilege.

Congrats for getting into the HoF, pi, really deserved. Your contributions have had a long-lasting impact. It's just a pity that your greatest achievement, this thread, went un-noticed in the description of your importance to the site! ;P

b^3 is our 12th inductee to the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame.

After joining in mid-2011, b^3 has made more than 3,500 posts across the forums. Math threads were a particular highlight, with 800+ of b^3's posts being in the VCE Methods board, and another 500+ in VCE Specialist Maths. These forums (and making threads like this) are a big part of why b^3 has spent 180+ days across the site.

b^3 is perhaps best known, though, for:
1. Practice Exam Tracker and Statistics (Spreadsheet) Version Pi- The FINAL Version. Pretty wicked!
2. WAM, GPA (4.0), HWA Calculator (MONASH). Groovy as!

And in my stalking, I also came across this thread, celebrating ATAR Notes reaching 50,000 members as of January 2013. Five years later, we now have more than quadruple that. We've come a long way! ;D A particularly pertinent quote that still holds true to this day:

And that's the strength of AN: we can count on it being there for us, all the time. That’s what makes a great community, and that’s what makes this community. And I’m proud to be part of it.

b^3 was a National Moderator from May 2013 until February 2014, and has been an Honorary Moderator since.

Parting words via b^3's personal text: "Overloading, just don't do it." ;)

So, please join me in welcoming our 12th Hall of Fame inductee: b^3.

Inductee #13? Lasercookie.

Across just over five years of activity (mid-2011 to mid-2016), Lasercookie contributed 3,000+ posts and 70 threads to the ATAR Notes Forums, including more than 500 posts in VCE Physics alone. Such activity led to more than 150 days spent on the site.

Lasercookie pioneered the Useful Resources and Guides thread, which has is still stickied and updated semi-regularly.

Their last post to date was in a thread titled, "The New Direction of ATAR Notes", lending their thoughts as to how AN could be improved in the future. That's what I love about ATAR Notes - there's always a willingness to give.

Lasercookie became a National Moderator in May 2013, and held that role until selflessly stepping down in February 2014. They have been an Honorary Moderator since: a great reflection of their contributions to the ATAR Notes Community.

So, please join me in welcoming our 13th Hall of Fame inductee: Lasercookie.

Phy124 is our 14th inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame.

Six years of activity, almost 1,500 posts and just under 500 respect. Very impressive, and that's what Phy124 holds. They were most prominent in the VCE Methods forum, which houses more than a quarter of Phy124's total posts, but were also prominent in the Monash University and Victorian Education Discussion boards.

Phy124 was a National Moderator for about two years, which is a long time to be looking after the forums in such a capacity. They transitioned into an Honorary Moderator role in October 2015 - richly deserved.

A quick shout-out to Phy124's most recent post, which can be found here, demonstrates the sort of energy and positive vibes they promoted. ;)

Inductee #15 is the ever-excellent alondouek.

The first thing I will say is this: get a load of these threads! Amazing. [1] [2]

alondouek contributed significantly to the forums in many domains. After joining in mid-2012 and making their first post by late 2012, alondouek made almost 3,000 posts across the site - including a mammoth ~750 in the Monash University board.

alondouek was very involved in the university boards, particularly in regard to subject reviews. As you might be aware, our uni subject review threads are some of our most popular and successful of all time, and alondouek spent many hours tirelessly (thanklessly?) updating these.

A National Moderator for more than two years (January 2014 - June 2016), alondouek has filled the position of Honorary Moderator ever since.

So, please join me in welcoming our 15th Hall of Fame inductee: alondouek.

charmanderp is our 16th inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame.

charmanderp contributed 3,000+ and 50+ threads across ~4 years of solid activity, including 700+ in the University of Melbourne board, and just shy of 500 in VCE Chemistry. This is my personal favourite of charmanderp's threads - and, honestly, one I think we should revive or replicate. ;)

Like alondouek, charmanderp was a National Moderator from January 2014 until June 2016, and has been an Honorary Moderator since that time. This, and all of charmanderp's contributions to ATAR Notes, are certainly worthy of recognition and acknowledgement.

So, please join me in welcoming our 16th Hall of Fame inductee: charmanderp.

It's a great privilege to kick off the new week with our latest (17th) inductee to the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame: slothpomba.

slothpomba - the self-proclaimed "Chief Executive Sloth" - joined ATAR Notes in late 2008, and made their first post on that same day. They currently sit on 4,459 posts, but this number is rising still, with slothpomba making amazing posts as recently as a couple of weeks ago. Later this year will mark their ten year anniversary on ATAR Notes, which is a huge deal.

Some of my favourite slothpomba threads are the Monash 2014 JAFFY tips thread, and the Monash 2015 JAFFY tips thread. These encapsulate slothpomba's helpful and balanced nature, and indicate the sort of time slothpomba has invested into ATAR Notes for the benefit of others.

Considering the above threads, you might not be surprised that slothpomba has been most prolific on the Monash University board, with more than 750 posts in that section of the site alone. But they have also been a huge contributor to a number of boards, including but certainly not limited to Victorian Education Discussion, News and Politics, General University Discussion, Other General Discussion and VCE Biology.

slothpomba transitioned into an Honorary Moderator position in June 2016, and still holds that title today.

So, please join me in welcoming our 17th Hall of Fame inductee: slothpomba.

Suuuuuper excited about this one. Our 18th inductee to the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame is jakesilove, who will be a familiar name to very many of you.

To this point, only one of our inductees joined ATAR Notes after 2011. jakesilove joined in 2014 - considerably later - and, just four years later, is an Honorary Moderator. That speaks volumes for how much jakesilove has contributed to ATAR Notes in that time. In fact, today is four years to the day that jakesilove joined the forums.

jakesilove will be familiar to many of you because they were one of the original three moderators from New South Wales, along with jamonwindeyer and elysepopplewell. Together with brenden, these three built the NSW community from the ground up, and I think everybody here would agree that they've done an absolutely stellar job. In the space of just a couple of years, ATAR Notes - HSC is just as big as ATAR Notes - VCE, and that's a phenomenal effort. Much of the credit must go to jakesilove.

jakesilove has made ~2,000 posts on the forums, largely answering questions in great detail in the HSC Chemistry, HSC Physics, HSC 2U Maths, HSC 3U Maths and HSC 4U Maths boards. That's a lot of questions, and should certainly be acknowledged.

One of ATAR Notes' inaugural and most experienced NSW lecturers, jakesilove is also actively involved in ATAR Notes beyond the forums. After moderating for several years, in December 2017 they transitioned to an Honorary Moderator position to allow greater focus on other ATAR Notes initiatives - the very first Honorary Moderator from NSW.

jakesilove's impact on ATAR Notes is practically immeasurable, and the AN Community would certainly not be as vibrant or strong as it is today without their contributions.

So, please join me in welcoming our 18th Hall of Fame inductee: jakesilove.

Aaron is a very deserving 19th inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame.

Joining in September 2012, Aaron made their first post that same month: the first of, at time of writing, nearly 3,000. Aaron has also spent ~190 days on site, making him the fourth (soon to be third) most prolific user of ATAR Notes of all time.

Very much of this time has been spent performing moderator duties, largely invisible to the vast majority of members. In this sense, Aaron has kept the forums running since becoming a National Moderator in June 2016, and before that in capacity of a State Moderator. Aaron has driven a push toward consistency and diligence in the moderator group, and acted as a great example in their time on the moderator team.

Aaron was awarded a position as an Honorary Moderator in January 2018 in recognition of their service to ATAR Notes, following their decision to step down to focus on career.

Of Aaron's ~3,000 posts, many have come in the Sport, Victorian Education Discussion and General University Discussion boards. Aaron has also demonstrated an interest in developing some of the less active boards, such as VCE Technology, which has been and continues to be greatly appreciated.

Aaron has always been professional and helpful, and their passion for genuinely helping as many students as possible is clear.

So, please join me in welcoming our 19th Hall of Fame inductee: Aaron.

Inductee #20 to the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame is none other than our most recently inducted Honorary Moderator, keltingmeith.

keltingmeith made their first post in April 2014, and its helpful nature was surely a sign of things to come. In less than four years, keltingmeith has made a touch under 5,000 posts - practically all of them just as if not more helpful than their first.

With a combined ~2,100 posts in the VCE Methods and VCE Specialist Maths boards, it's fair to say that keltingmeith has answered a math question or two on ATAR Notes. These posts would have helped literally thousands of students on their own, not even considering keltingmeith's other contributions to the ATAR Notes Community (which have been many).

Threads like this, this, this, this, this, this and this go some way to explaining why keltingmeith is so highly respected on the forums.

A National Moderator from October 2015 until January 2018, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong, friend) keltingmeith is a multiple winner of ATAR Notes' "Most Scary Moderator" award ;), but the clearest thing is their willingness to help others. And you can read more about their journey in their University Journey Journal. ;D

So, please join me in welcoming our 20th Hall of Fame inductee: keltingmeith.

It seems almost unjust that enwiabe has been left this late in the inaugural ATAR Notes Hall of Fame inductions. Why? Because, fundamentally, none of us would be reading this without enwiabe!

enwiabe was - and is - the founder of ATAR Notes. Indeed, ATAR Notes (then "FreeStudyNotes") was born as a Summer project, which you can read about in the very first thread on ATAR Notes, found here.

An amendment to enwiabe's first post read as follows:

Quote
But I say this now, and I will never recant it: There will never ever be a fee required to access FSN. FSN will always be free for every VCE student to use... This website, after all, provides FREE study notes. May this website prosper for many years to come.

And prosper it has - for more than a decade, in fact. The sentiment lives on today, and here's to the next decade of ATAR Notes.

On the forums, enwiabe made nearly 4,500 posts and created more than 250 threads. But the importance of enwiabe to the history of ATAR Notes is obviously much greater than numbers and statistics. As the founder of the site, I think we all owe a bit to enwiabe for their incredibly huge contributions.

So, please join me in welcoming our 21st Hall of Fame inductee: enwiabe.

And so we come to our 22nd final inaugural ATAR Notes Hall of Fame Member. It seems fitting that our final inductee (for now) was here from the start - or at least close enough to it. ninwa joined ATAR Notes on October 20, 2007: the day after its creation. She was a huge figure, and a huge part of ATAR Notes' development over the last ten years.

On the forums, ninwa made more than 8,000 posts - to this day, the fifth most in ATAR Notes history. And they sit on an absolutely mammoth +1,014 respect, really highlighting their impact on the ATAR Notes Community. Their first post encapsulates the spirit of ATAR Notes, which is great. An excerpt:

Quote
at the end of this year ill have tonnes of notes but I don't know anyone who does my subjects. but now I can put them up here (right?) so they don't go to waste!

ninwa was one of ATAR Notes' first Administrators, and passed the baton to brenden in early 2015. From brenden's post:

Quote
I wanted to give an enormous thank you to Nina for everything she's given to the forums - which is a lot. A lot a lot. Without her efforts, ATAR Notes would be much shitter. Legitimately. That's just how it is. She's put a lot of effort into the upkeep, maintenance and development of the community, such that it simply wouldn't be the same, enjoyable place without those efforts.

But I think the best part was when ninwa accidentally deleted their own account. Classic.

So, please join me in welcoming our 22nd and final inaugural Hall of Fame inductee: ninwa.

Inductee #22: ninwa (February - March 2018)
Each of these members - Eriny, EvangelionZeta, Fyrefly, Gloamglozer, Mao, Russ, shinny, TrueTears, pi, taiga, thushan, b^3, lasercookie, Phy124, alondouek, charmanderp, slothpomba, jakesilove, Aaron, keltingmeith, enwiabe and ninwa - has made significant contributions to the history and present climate of ATAR Notes. Some were here for a relatively short time, some are still here. Regardless, these are the people to whom we should be thankful for, without them, ATAR Notes would not be in the incredibly fantastic position it is today. And as we continue with the development of ATAR Notes, we shouldn't forget those who set the foundations for our current success.

What I will note is that their contributions were varied, and there are very many ways in which you can make a positive contribution to ATAR Notes. Future inductees - and there will be future inductees - might be inducted for things we've never even thought of yet. And that inductee might be you.

As you may have noticed, almost all of the above users have since moved on from the forums. We decided to first highlight the contributions of those past users. In saying that, there are users active on the forums right now who will make it into the Hall of Fame. Users who have already contributed significantly to the AN Community, users who will do so in the future. I really actively encourage you to try to make a positive difference. No matter if you're in Year 9 or graduated from university, you can make ATAR Notes a better place, and everybody is welcome here.

On a personal note, I've very much enjoyed compiling this Hall of Fame. It's been a pleasure going back through the history books and gaining a greater understanding of these users - some of whom I have had no direct contact. I'm quite sure I've not done some inductees justice, as there are many contributions I will have missed or simply don't know about. But I hope that this initiative has at least somewhat shone light on those who deserve it: those inducted into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame.

P.S. Which current or past users do you tip to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the future? ;)

A quick shout-out to Phy124's most recent post, which can be found here, demonstrates the sort of energy and positive vibes they promoted. ;)

So, please join me in welcoming our 14th Hall of Fame inductee: Phy124.

Our newest Hall of Fame inductee, and 23rd overall, should come as no great surprise. elysepopplewell recently transitioned into an Honorary Moderator role after filling a National Moderator position for several years.

Elyse joined the forums in mid-2015, and was a founding member of the ATAR Notes NSW community. Since that post, she has contributed more than 3,000 posts, which puts her in the top 30 most prolific posters in the history of ATAR Notes. Like jakesilove and jamonwindeyer, her influence in the formative years of the New South Wales community was absolutely immense, and she continues to contribute in a deeply meaningful way today.

Through her endeavours both online and in the offline ATAR Notes community, elysepopplewell has been and continues to be a role model. She's written a number of our publications, and delivered many, many (outstanding) lectures to HSC students. ATAR Notes would not be in as strong a position as it is today without Elyse, her passion, her intelligence, or her kindness.

Please join me in congratulating our latest inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame, elysepopplewell.

Thanks for the thought, tomatosauce, but I don't think that'll happen any time soon haha.

RuiAce. The man, the myth, the legend. Let me begin with some sheer statistics.

At time of writing, Rui has invested some 5,500 hours into the ATAR Notes Forums - the third-most of all time. That alone is a truly incredible statistic, but when you add in the countless hours Rui has put into ATAR Notes in an offline capacity - community building, lecturing, tutoring, authoring - it really begins to paint a picture of just how important RuiAce has been for ATAR Notes.

Rui has posted on more than 8,000 occasions (seventh most of all time ATOW), and has accrued more than +2,000 respect (sixth most of all time ATOW). But numbers don't really do Rui justice, which is perhaps mildly humorous given his penchant for mathematics.

Rui came to ATAR Notes at a really crucial time - shortly after we first expanded into New South Wales. Jake, Jamon and Elyse, with Brenden, were leading that push, but Rui otherwise became the first major NSW user, and subsequently provided incredible value to the community. Thankfully for us, he is still providing that value today. Let's hear from Brenden.

Quote from: brenden
Rui was the first major poster in ATAR Notes NSW that wasn’t previously engaged by ATAR Notes, and subsequently, his forum presence has been one of the single biggest drivers in the growth of our HSC community. We literally could not have done it without him. Rui, thanks for giving us so much - I hope you the universe gives you plenty in return.

As Caleb notes below, Rui was doing Rui things from the very start - here is his first post on the forums.

Quote from: Calebark
After Rui's very first post on ATAR Notes, a moderator immediately commented 'RuiAce, looks like you'll be a big name on this community!'. After close to 700 pages of posts on ATAR Notes, this couldn't be more true. RuiAce has consistently sacrificed his own time to put in gargantuan amounts of effort in teaching and enriching a massive portion of the community the past few years, both online and offline, due to his position as a lecturer. It's difficult to pick a word that describes Rui perfectly, but if you need to pick, look no further than the second half of his username.

The moderator that replied at the time was none other than jakesilove, himself a member of the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame and still one of the leaders of our New South Wales team. Jake would know better than most Rui's impact both on and off the forums.

Quote from: jakesilove
Rui is far more than an ATAR Notes user. Rui is an institution of AN. His support of tens of thousands of high school students, both academically and non-academically, is a testament to his generosity, kindness and selflessness. We all think of Rui as our Maths guru, but at the end of the day he permeates our community to the extent that I couldn't imagine it without him. Rui's heavy involvement with the online community is matched only by his dedication to the NSW team, in which he is a vital member and a valued tutor. I can't think of anyone more deserving to be inducted into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame: wherever Rui goes in life, he can be proud in knowing that this community is imbued with his hard-work, his passion, and his skill.

I think it's testament to Rui that he has so heavily impacted not only (literally) thousands and thousands of students, but also the ATAR Notes team more broadly. jamonwindeyer, elysepopplewell, sudodds, beatroot - these are super familiar names to the ATAR Notes Community, and here is what each of them has said about Rui:

Quote from: jamonwindeyer
Less man and more force of nature, Rui is synonymous with ATAR Notes in almost every possible way. I distinctly remember his first post flashing up back in February 2016, and thinking, "This is a one off, no one could answer questions like this consistently." I sit here three years later, gladly corrected, and in awe of the sheer passion and dedication Rui has injected into this community. Now an integral part of our forum, our products, our lectures and our tutoring, Rui is quite literally a foundation of ATAR Notes HSC. It's been a humbling privilege to work with him for these past years - Even the Hall of Fame feels inadequate to truly encompass the impact he has had, and will continue to be felt on ATAR Notes for years.
Quote from: elysepopplewell
Rui has been a very special addition to ATAR Notes right from the beginning. Rui's eagerness to help on the forums has always been contagious. Rui was so fast at answering questions that one now Economics lecturer, Isaac, made two accounts so he could ask and answer his own questions before Rui got to it, to get his own post count up (rigged).

Rui has never let anyone down, has always risen to the occasion, and has put more thought into bringing snacks to lectures than any of us. Rui is quick, clever, and kind. We adore Rui ❤.
Quote from: sudodds
What can be said about Rui that hasn’t already been said? The impact that Rui has had on this community is unparalleled, and I cannot think of someone more deserving of Honorary Moderator. Most will immediately jump to his incredible help on the maths threads, but for me, as a little humanities kid who didn’t study and inkling of maths in year 12, even I felt Rui’s impact. Today, I have had the pleasure to know Rui professionally, but more importantly as an amazing friend. He’s kind, passionate, totally dedicated to his students, and an ace banterer (pun intended) – thousands of students have benefitted from Rui’s wisdom, and I know that thousands more will benefit in the future.
Quote from: beatroot
Think we all know very well that Rui has helped grow and expand the NSW AN community due to his tremendous contributions in the HSC forums (specifically in the Maths sections), lectured thousands of MX2 students and most of all- his presence has certainly has made everyone truly welcome to the AN community. I don't just see Rui as a forum member nor a lecturer- I see him as a leader and a friend. He's always there to support you and to help you reach your goals. I know this for a fact as I constantly get tagged in memes about getting my P's. I know he wants me to reach that goal and that is a valuable trait to find in a friend. Rui always sends good vibes with his funny jokes and his wise insights of the world and I am so glad that his achievements will now be fully recognised in the AN Hall of Fame. I look back and try to figure out the first time that I interacted with Rui. I remember it was back in July 2017 lectures when I couldn't find my room for a lecture. He told me that I was actually in the right place and even scanned my ticket before I entered the room. It's crazy to think that so much has happened ever since then

Without Rui, the AN NSW (or the AN community rather) wouldn't be complete. Thank you Rui :)

And truer words really never have been said. We do adore Rui.

I think personally, there are a few things that stand out for me when I think about Rui and his impact on ATAR Notes. Perhaps most striking to me is this: Rui is determined. Very determined. You can see that everything he does, he wants to do well, whether that be writing a single post on the forums, writing an entire study guide, taking a lecture, or taking a class at TuteSmart.

Quote from: Aaron
Over the past couple of years I have observed Rui’s consistent contributions to pretty much all sections of ATAR Notes. As the main contender with Rui for ‘most online user’, I have absolutely nothing but the greatest respect for Rui and the amount of work he has contributed to this community. An example of his work which I have found truly fantastic is the contributions to the VCE Maths boards. Rui is not Victorian nor has done the VCE, yet takes the time to provide assistance in these boards. To maintain a consistent approach to helping others (which by the way we do for absolutely nothing in return) over a long period of time demonstrates Rui’s character and a willingness for others of all backgrounds to access the same opportunities he has had. I am proud as a teacher to have users like this supporting school students in this wonderful community, and proud to provide my endorsement for Rui. I hope that others strive to contribute in the same ways Rui has over this time and look forward to his further contributions as an Honorary Moderator.
Quote from: literally lauren
Reading Rui's posts has taught me more Maths than any of my high school teachers were able to drill into my poor little humanities head. But more impressively, the books he's authored and contributed to for ATAR Notes have helped thousands of students across NSW truly understand Maths. From the 3U Topic Tests to the 4U Notes... (to some super secret new titles that will be launching this year!) Rui's mathematical wisdom and quite frankly intimidating LaTeX skills have well and truly earned him his fame amongst students, teachers, and the ATAR Notes community far and wide ❤️

There's no hyperbole here in what Aaron and Lauren are saying. THOUSANDS of students helped. Literally thousands - with more on the way. ;)

But the thing is, that determination to be good, and those high standards, are combined with a sheer kindness almost paralleled. Rui really cares about people, which is a huge value of ATAR Notes more broadly. He is generous with his time, he is always willing to learn, and he is humble.

A common theme throughout the contributions above has been that Rui absolutely deserves his place in the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame, and I think this is very true. ATAR Notes has been so fortunate to have Rui's influence and presence over the last several years, and we're luckier still to still have that influence and presence.

Rui is the 24th inductee into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame, and absolutely belongs. Please join me by saying #ThanksRui. I'm going to leave the final words here to insanipi:

Quote from: insanipi
I remember back in 2016 (my year 12 year!) seeing some of Rui's insane math skills and thinking 'WOW, this person is going to be a legend'. Little did I know that my prediction was right. Over the past nearly three years, he has been such a whirlwind of impact- both on the forum and people he has come into contact with in real life, myself included. He has put a ton of effort into the forum and has often gone above and beyond, and I think that is something truly to be admired. Some people look at his over 8000 posts he has made and think 'what a madman', but I think he has been this: a true ace.

Brenden has been an absolute giant of ATAR Notes. Nothing less. He recently moved into an Honorary Moderator position:

🎉 NEW HONORARY MODERATOR 🎉

Brenden (known by various usernames across his ATAR Notes life) joined the forums on 18 February 2012, and has perhaps been the single most influential member of our community since.

As of today, he is our newest Honorary Moderator.

Practically every single ATAR Notes initiative over the last five years, on and off the forums, Brenden has played a role. And often, a very, very big role.

(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif) Thank you Brenden: Honorary Moderator #25

On the forums…
Brenden has been an absolute giant.

* More than 7,000 posts. Currently the ninth most of all time and, until recently, the sixth most.
* Accrued some 2,500 respect, mostly through a time where a post:respect ratio of 20:1 was incredible. I have no doubt that Brenden would be #1 if we adjusted respect for era, taking into account respect inflation.
* Made 200+ posts in ten individual boards, including almost 800 in Victorian Education Discussion.
* This includes the VCE English Work Submission and Marking Board, where Brenden was massive in marking countless essays and investing countless hours of time.
* Administrator for more than four years since taking over duties from ninwa.
* Sole Administrator for a large chunk of that time, which honestly would not be an easy gig in the slightest.
* And, in my view, one of the most pivotal posters ever in terms of ATAR Notes Culture.

In December 2017, Brenden made a thread – From the bottom of my heart – Thank you ATAR Notes – and I just think it speaks so well for the kind of impact AN can have. And, indeed, the kind of people AN attracts. Brenden could have easily said, “well, thanks for the help, I’m done now, so I’ll see you all later!”, but instead stuck around to be the pillar of the community he was and is for future students.

And ATAR Notes fell in love with you, mate! From that point onward, just look at some of the threads he has made. This is just a tiny snapshot, not even taking into account individual posts.

Lauren says:
Off the forums…
If it weren't for Brenden, things might be very different, including a lot of things we take for granted now in 2019.

FREE NOTES + ARTICLES
Brenden has played a big role in cultivating the free notes section of the site (starting it from scratch in some instances). The same is true for our free articles, many of which Brenden wrote himself. We're now closing in on 4,000 sets of free notes available to download 24/7.

STUDY GUIDES
Brenden was huge in developing our first study guides in both Victoria and New South Wales. We now have more than 60 titles across the two states, with more to come.

NEW SOUTH WALES COMMUNITY
Honestly, this could be the biggest thing of all. The NSW community we have today on ATAR Notes is awesome, and offers pretty much everything the Victorian community offers (which was established in 2007). Developing NSW was Brenden's baby, and he smashed it out of the ballpark. We know the huge NSW figures: Jamon, Jake, Elyse, Rui, Susie and so on. But literally none of that could have been done without Brenden, and even though ATAR Notes - HSC is a given right now, it didn't used to be the case.

Jamon says:
TUTESMART
TuteSmart now runs across two states. Who took care of much of the day-to-day stuff in its original iterations? Brenden did.

See initial thread here.

FREE LECTURES
For context, when I was in Year 12, free lectures didn't exist. They just didn't. If you wanted to go to revision lectures for your subjects a few times per year, you'd be forking out hundreds - even thousands - of dollars. Now, you can do that for free - again, largely thanks to Brenden (for both states). Literally tens of thousands of students have benefitted.

What I love is that the chances are, lecturers today were either trained by Brenden personally, or trained by somebody who was trained by Brenden. His influence has been significant.

See initial thread here.

On a personal level…
I am honestly really thankful to have been able to work with Brenden over the last little while, and to be able to read his posts (which will hopefully be the case in the future, too!). He’s had a big impact on me personally.

We actually joined the forums about ~a month apart, when we were both just starting Year 12, and then, very coincidentally, made our first posts on the very same night, in the very same board. Brenden got actively involved in the forums much earlier than I did and was, in a sense, from a forum generation before me, but that allowed him to be a really fantastic mentor as I gradually became more involved in subsequent years.

Brenden (with Lauren) was, if I’m thinking straight, the first person I ever met from ATAR Notes. He was probably the most welcoming person I’ve ever met. On that day, his enthusiasm for ATAR Notes was very clear to me, and I think that’s something that has rubbed off onto the community more generally over the years. Which is huge.

I am genuinely proud to call Brenden a friend and to be able to make this post denoting his transition into his next ATAR Notes role as he pursues other ways to positively impact students' lives.

Thank you, Brenden, for everything!

(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif)(http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/Themes/default/images/starpurple.gif) Thank you Brenden: Honorary Moderator #25

If anything, there should be a new category for Brenden, such has been his impact. But I'm very pleased to announce his induction into the ATAR Notes Hall of Fame - a Hall of Fame that, without Brenden, simply wouldn't be complete or right.
