Could someone please explain....

1. The whole idea of why partial reinforcement is better at maintaining behavior once it has been established? I'm having trouble getting my head around it..

2. What exactly is chaining? Like with an example, how does it even work if it works backwards to shaping? Or do I have the wrong idea of what it is?

Thanks!

Are you refering to narrative chaining? Haha, because if so, its in a different AOS. (I am not assuming you're stupid, but rather i do not understand what you are refering to lol.)

For partial reinforcement, think about it logically. Firstly, to establish a new behaviour continuous reinforcement will aid in helping motivate the organism to produce the desired response. Once it has been established, the reinforcer now only needs to administer reinforcement on a 'partial' scale (it also saves the behaviour from becoming extinct.) It is a waste of time/energy to reinforce the established behaviour continuously, and the organism will soon come to realise that for every response they produce, they will recieve reinforcement. Therefore it doesn't aid in maintaining the actual desired behaviour. Partially reinforcing the organism makes them realise that they still need to produce the behaviour consistently, because they never know when they'll be reinforced. (Can be easier to predict some schedules over others)...

hope this helped. i am bad with explaining lol.

Oh no Mike, thanks for your help, but I didn't mean chaining as narrative chaining. Chaining is supposedly when the target behaviour is worked backwards or something, instead of shaping where the target behaviour is established and an individual works towards it, if that makes sense (which it shouldn't because I dont get it at all)

Thanks for clearing up the partial reinforcement thingo though. ^_^

I'm pretty sure chaining is in the study design, I've read about it in my text book and a up to date study guide...
It's not a big part of it though

>_< Oops. Sorry Mike, I guess you and I have to brush up on (and actually find out what the hell is) chaining.

I'm definite 'chaining' is not in the study design. Only narrative chaining. Look it up in the study design :)

Would anyone happen to have a definite answer on whether anterograde amnesia is strictly permanent? The INSIGHT 2006 paper seems to think so, but I thought amnesia was usually temporary.

Anterograde amnesia is generally permanent, retrograde amnesia is generally not permanent.

I agree with Amy. retrograde amnesia is generally temporary when compared to anterograde
