Title: Those little gems
Post by: prickles on November 13, 2017, 02:00:18 pm
The 'things that shit me' thread kinda perceives us as a bunch of people forever complaining.
So here's the opposite. What are those little things that make you happy for 5 minutes?
Nothing life changing, just those things that make you smile.

E.G.1: A brand new pair of socks. SO SOFT, you feel like you are walking on air
E.G 2: Waking up and looking at your alarm clock and realising you have another hour until you need to get out of bed

i actually adore a new pair of socks, esp if they have some special technology like air-dryor dry-fit or something idek LOL
and cleaning my laptop(s)/pc/phone and making them look gorgeous and brand new makes me feel so good LOL i just like clean technology and it breaks my heart seeing people not take care of their tech D:

and uhhhh having a really nice chicken burger/cheeseburger LOL im not an intense foodie but good food makes me go  ;D ;D ;D

Good idea, Prickles!

Things that make me smile:
- children who are super cooperative at the dentist (People who have met me personally will know why I say this.)
- accomplishing a tiny personal goal for something you've failed at multiple times before e.g. throwing trash successfully into the bin with basketball throws from your seat when bored, but having a success rate of 20%.
- when you get home from a long day at school/ work/ university (mixed with mini-relief)

Why does no one get that I genuinely like overcast, cold weather better than so-called "perfect" (sunny, 20s) weather? :(  Cool shade and reduced brightness are such a kind relief.

But yeah, excellent thread, prickles, even if your weather choices are unwise. ;)

In my family we open all the windows and see who can smell it first (when we go to the beach you can smell it before you see it) - of course everyone lies and claims to be the first to smell it, and then they get told we're still 15 min away and we know they're lying  ::)

My exams happened to be in decreasing order of cohort size, until finally on Thursday it was just me.  I thought it would be unsettling be the only one there (with two supervisors) but the supervisors were really friendly and I felt at ease - much easier to get into exam mindset

Aww... but same question as K888.
How many ducklings?

That feeling you get when you think you failed an assignment, but you actually did really well in it, so you do that mini-celebration either mentally or physically. (I think this was mentioned before, but it's such a good feeling that it'll get mentioned multiple times.)

Also, for the clumsy people out there (myself included), that moment when you defy gravity and stop yourself from almost tripping over. Especially when nobody saw you do it.

So I feel like I've been posting in the things that shit me thread too much lately. This wasn't super recent but this is what I thought of when i read this thread title.

At school we have a 15min mentor, we have 4 people in ours (most have 10-15). Our mentor almost never brought us food (he did once but left it in his car-we ate it at lunch instead). I think it was early term 3. We had been talking about potato gems, I had no idea what they were (think hash brown balls if you're as ignorant as me). Our mentor decided to surprise us by bringing in potato gems and cooking them during 2nd period so they were delicious in time for mentor. We thought he would forget (he always forgets food) but he actually did. They were delicious. If you haven't had them you should.

Do you think it's weather-related? Perhaps it's not the tea itself, but the situation/environment.

I love dogs, and when they come over to say hi, it is certainly one of those little gems. Had a dog paw my foot and push its nose into my knee, and it is so cute!

The same organism can experience both being a kitten and a cat whereas "turtle" and "tortoise" are labels applied to different families of species.
Additionally, the boundary between being a "kitten" or "cat" appears to be arbitrarily decided by the individual using the term.

In short - it is much easier to tell turtles and tortoises apart than kittens and cats

Not at my school. There’s lots of teachers on the camp. Unit 3 classes aren’t running, most other classes are in the resource centre (so they’re effectively private study but they have to stay at school, we don’t).

A guy came up to my deli at work, he had no idea what he was doing and doesn’t cook but he wanted to cook spinach and feta pastry things to impress a girl. He said his mates suggested buying frozen or getting it delivered secretly but he was determined to make them. He asked what sort of feta he should get and ended up having a 10min conversation with me and my coworker about how to cook them and how big the pieces of feta should be, he really had no idea 😂 was rather enjoyable compared to how boring work normally is.

hahahaha. Definitely not the best word choice

It's just a cold. I've had it all week but it was mostly just a sore throat and cough and I had my English SAC yesterday so I had to go to school. It wasn't that bad this morning but I didn't have any important classes so I figured I'd stay home and catch up on sleep. Very glad I did, I've had cold medicine and panadol and my head is still pounding and completely blocked up. At least my throat isn't sore anymore I suppose  :-\

I too love that feeling!

Which books? ;D

The first one is called The Etymologican (Mark Forsyth). I asked Lauren for recommendations ages ago, and I'm just getting around to them now. This one is the first on the list. I'm only ten pages into it, but I can already tell I'm going to absolutely adore it. It's loosely about the history of words and their etymologies. Really excited.

The second one is Kevin Rudd's new autobiography! Keen for this one, too, given he was a crucial player in my Honours thesis, and I'm still interested in pursuing a PhD along similar lines.

Finally getting round to finishing The Silmarillion, the greatest literary work of all time, imo. It's brilliant, the universe creation that Tolkien put in place, but I've always struggled to fit in time to read it. Now it's done and I can just sit there for a moment considering the brilliance of what I just read.

Also finally understanding a concept that you've struggled with for hours.

It's brilliant, the universe creation that Tolkien put in place, but I've always struggled to fit in time to read it. Now it's done and I can just sit there for a moment considering the brilliance of what I just read.

I always found the first half a bit stifling to read -- like the prose was just a bit odd. The contents, however, are amazing. I prefer it to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The elves are always shown to be, well, almost too perfect. Then here comes Feanor, the greatest of all the elves... and he's the most flawed of all the elves.

It's not a coincidence, but my favourite album is Nightfall in Middle-Earth, which is a concept album detailing the War of the Jewels. This is the song list describing each song. About a third of them are short 20s interludes that just add to the story -- like hearing the Lammoth or spoken word.
Nightfall in Middle Earth, taken from Wikipedia lol I didn't write it
In "War of Wrath", Sauron advises his master Morgoth to flee the triumphant Valar in the War of Wrath. Morgoth sends him away and reflects on the events leading up to his defeat.
In "Into the Storm", Morgoth and Ungoliant, fleeing from Valinor after having destroyed the Two Trees, struggle for the possession of the Silmarils.
"Lammoth" is the scream of Morgoth with which he fights off Ungoliant.
In "Nightfall", Fëanor and his seven sons mourn the destruction wrought by Morgoth, including the slaying of Finwë, Fëanor's father, and swear to get revenge on him, in spite of the Valar's disapproval.
"The Minstrel" is most likely about Maglor, son of Fëanor, who composed the song "The Fall of the Noldor" based on the Kinslaying.
In "The Curse of Fëanor", Fëanor expresses his wrath and anger and relates the misdeeds he commits, especially the Kinslaying, in pursuit of Morgoth.
In "Captured", Morgoth addresses the captive Maedhros, Fëanor's son, and chains him to the Thangorodrim mountains.
In "Blood Tears", Maedhros relates the horrors of his captivity and his deliverance by Fingon.
"Mirror Mirror" recounts how Turgon, in view of inevitable defeat, builds the city of Gondolin, aided by Ulmo ("The Lord of Water").
In "Face the Truth", Fingolfin reflects about the destiny of the Noldor.
In "Noldor (Dead Winter Reigns)", Fingolfin recounts his Noldor army's passage from the icy waste of Helcaraxë and the prophecy by Mandos about the Noldor's fate; he reflects on his own and his people's guilt and foreshadows their ultimate defeat.
"The Battle of Sudden Flame" refers to the battle in which Morgoth breaks the Siege of Angband using his Balrogs and dragons. The lyrics tell of how Barahir of the House of Bëor, with great loss to his own company, saved the life of the Elven king Finrod Felagund, and in return Finrod swore an oath of friendship to Barahir and all of his kin.
"Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill)" is about Fingolfin riding to the gates of Angband to challenge Morgoth to a duel. Fingolfin wounds Morgoth seven times but is eventually killed.
"The Dark Elf" refers to Eöl who seduced Turgon's sister and fathered Maeglin, who would eventually betray Gondolin.
"Thorn" is a dual reference to Maeglin and Túrin Turambar, who both met tragic ends (caused partly by their own deeds, and partly by their manipulation by Morgoth and Glaurung respectively).
"The Eldar" is Elven king Finrod Felagund's farewell to his people, dying from wounds sustained by saving his human friend Beren from a werewolf, thereby fulfilling his oath to the House of Bëor.
In "Nom the Wise", Beren mourns his friend Finrod. Nóm means "wise" and was the name given to Finrod by Beren's forefather Bëor.
In "When Sorrow Sang", Beren sings about his love to the Elven princess Lúthien and his death at the teeth of Morgoth's wolf Carcharoth. Last part is about Mandos listening to Luthien song about their grief experienced by being different in kin.
"Out on the Water" refers to the last dwelling-place of Beren and Lúthien.
In "The Steadfast", Morgoth curses his captive Húrin who steadfastly refused to reveal the secret of Gondolin.
In "A Dark Passage", Morgoth ponders his triumph in the fifth battle. The song also relates the origins of the kindred of men and Morgoth's curse on Húrin to be witness to his children's tragic fate.
"Final Chapter (Thus ends ...)" concludes the album, speaking of Morgoth's victory by the "treachery of man" but also of the hope for a new day.
"Harvest of Sorrow" is the bonus track on the remastered version of the album. Túrin mourns the loss of his sister Niënor.

My mom just introduced my 7 yo brother to the riddle that goes:
"If there is a kilogram of feathers and a kilogram of stone, which one weighs more?"
Spoiler
THEY BOTH WEIGH THE SAME, ha I got you didn't I

Anyway, he can't wrap his little head around the fact that rock isn't always the heaviest - all of the measuring cups and weights are out on the kitchen counter as we attempt to show him that 'lighter' and 'heavier' things can still weigh the same sometimes! :))

One of the perks of being in a really small school is that you are cared about much more, both individually and as a group. Recently all these parents and teachers have been showering us Yr 12s with so much awesome food, we got scones with jam and cream today, it just feels so good to feel that people who you wouldn't even know without school care about you! ;D

Same at my school! I guess that's year 12 privilege? Sometimes it feels odd to be in year 12 knowing so many people have come before you, and we're all just repeating the same year 12 experience year after year, learning the same content and worrying over the same exams. All the same it's a unique experience

Also doubly glad, because dad would've been pissed if I wasn't on this train (as I would've been home at 11 and he's tired) so I've avoided that awkward situation. (He brings me home from my station as the area I live in is dodgy af after 7pm :') )

They all had a little encouraging quotes on top and tasted AMAZING.

He also wrote our class a poem that he read out AND hand wrote us a card each.

I have noticed this is a thing that happens at the end of year 12 at my school, I have friends in other classes whose teachers are doing similar.
Does this sort of thing happen at all schools?
I feel so blessed.

Thanks @mics100 (I believe that is his AN account, not that I have tried stalking him or anything...)

You get used to it. The motivation that keeps me going is, there's only one way I can go.. up. Moving soon.

Really funny too, I live less than 15km from the CBD and still get that.

I live right on the exchange boundary. So the dist from house to exchange is around 2km. That on ADSL2+ in a severely built up area. Picture perfect conditions.

I used to live in the middle of nowhere and still got NBN and fast internet

No congestion + partial/full fibre = recipe for success. Congestion is the cause for most speed issues, in addition to outdated old copper infrastructure and other factors such as distance from the service exchange and any interference. I got a nbn notice in the mail that 'inspection works' would be carried out soon to get my sub-par HFC (essentially a mix of old outdated copper and fibre)...... so I assume if I stay here i'll get nbn in about 10 years provided the same govt stays in power until then. :) Even my old holiday house down the surf coast used to get faster speeds and that too was ADSL2+.

Whilst I have every reason to be skeptical about these things, articles like this give me hope.

It's in Chinese and like Google chrome can translate it for you but basically (if you're not bothered), but basically in China they've been investigating in this drug GV-971 and its impact on Alzheimer's. There's a few articles on Google outlining its success but supposedly its effect has been reasonably profound on preventing said dementia (given that we hardly have any knowledge on Alzheimer's rn). It's been on China's news and is apparently set for being sold (at pharmacies surely...) soon.

Really pleasing for me because whilst obviously it's too late now, considering my grandma has had Alzheimer's for around 7-10 years now it gives promise that we might be able to do something about this disease.

Okay so basically there's this bell near the school hall which Year 12 students smash the hell out of when HSC is over. During fourth period Chem just finished, and a good 50% of the year finished all their exams today. A solid half an hour of bell ringing distracted our English teacher for 45 minutes in what was probably the most entertaining yet boring lesson ever. ;D ;D ;D

It feels so good to be back on AN !!!! ---> This is my gem!!!
Hello my fam!!!  ;D

Since July I took a break from the forums due to exam preparation because I was worried of being distracted online so I just took the step *with a heavy heart* to take a break. Another reason was that I was being stalked by someone from my school, which made me feel quite uncomfortable...

But now I've let go of those anxious feelings, plus, I have 3 more exams and then done!!!! (Legal, Eng Lang and French) So thought to come back on!! And you bet it feels sooo great!!!

Hope everyone's well and see you around guys!!  :D

I met up with some people from my course recently and we ended up sitting on a beach, removing rubbish while talking openly and respectfully about topics like religion (out of the three of us there was one catholic, one christian, one atheist) and veganism (one vegan, one person who's wanting to be vegetarian, and one person who hadn't really explored/considered either).

It was really nice to be able to hear different viewpoints and talk openly about what are sometimes contentious topics - and to help the beach a little at the same time :)

My little brother does that all the time.
He is so cute. And we say goodnight prayers but I have to say everything perfectly how he wants me to or he gets annoyed at me.
He is so cute and amazing.

Also I’ve got a few things to add here:

When you are surrounded by 1000s of christians all singing passionately to worship songs. That feeling can’t be beat.
#awakeningaustralia
#australiaforjesus

Also when you volunteer to help out with too much at school (to do with the presentation night) and are stressing out about it all then a friend takes a day to come in to help you out.

EDIT: I got another one and didn’t want to double post.
But hanging out with drunk schoolies is the best thing ever. Even though I am here to help (and should be on schoolies) volunteering for red frogs has been absolutely amazing so far.
Having all these conversations with schoolies goers is making my week worth it.
I am staying up till at least 3am every morning and are exhausted af but it is actually so much fun hanging out with schoolies and helping them out when I can.

My work has a whole lot of posters and information and stuff up at the moment about mental health - at the moment they’ve got the posters up with Christmas sayings with small writing in between the lines altering it to a negative expression along with contact numbers for helplines etc and it’s really great that they’re being so openly supportive about mental health issues especially given this time of year is really stressful for high school and uni students aka the majority of people who work here ^-^

Nice! I had to renew some items that had been out for the maximum three weeks, and they should be due back on the 26th, but they're now due on the 16th of Jan, which is grouse. :D
I often have my loans out for 3-4 renewals (depending on the library- my home one has a max 3 renewals/item but 4 week loans, Melbourne has a max of 4 renewals/item but 3 week loans, so rounds out to the same amount of time I guess aha) ^-^

Well he wasn't deaf for his entire life. I know he was deaf by then but I think it helps that he had a very musical life regardless. I feel as though provided you've had such an exposure, even if you start going deaf you can still "hear" it all in your head anyway, or at least how you imagine it would be heard.

That and there's probably also some melody/harmony writing techniques that you could employ anyway. Although Beethoven was going into the Romantic era he still had some classical techniques. (By the end of the classical era a lot of composition techniques were becoming common, even though they were about to be dominated by others.)

Although having said that, in my opinion, the most profound change from his deafness was the style of music. When I compare Pathetique to Appassionata for example, I just feel that the first is somewhat "more rigid" than the second. And I feel music that delves too far into the Baroque/Classical periods just feels comparatively more blunt.

Having perfect pitch I understand how it could be heard in his head, yet, the 9th Symphony is absolutely mammoth-orchestral parts, 4-part choir, vocal soloists; if you have read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heiligenstadt_Testament it amazes me how he was able to hear so many parts, let alone find such hope!

There are reasons why he's renowned after all. He's overrated but I don't fault it - many of Beethoven's pieces are in my favourites of classical music. I certainly can't do what he could.

Still think it's possible though. Of course it requires a strong desire to but given that it still seems to make sense. If I were shoved a recording in my face straight away idk how I'd feel but whilst composing, you can always hear four parts at once? Start by getting a feel (and then a slightly more concrete idea) about how 2-4 parts by themselves work and then slowly try to build/weave the two ideas together? It feels monstrous trying to hear sixteen different instruments or voices or something all in the one go but if you keep narrowing your focus I'd say it's possible.

Definitely not saying it's easy - oh hell no. Add Beethoven's strong desire and talents though? You get the awesome results.

IIRC Beethoven later employed something called bone conduction. He'd affix a rod to his piano and bite down on it, so the vibrations would allow him to hear

There's even modern hearing aids based on this!

My nephew enjoying a post-swim banana and trying to share it with me. One bite for him, one for me, and continue.

Downside is I hate banana -- it's one of two foods I absolutely cannot stomach. Fortunately I'm a master of the fake nibble now

It does indeed. My old laptop took at least 10 minutes to turn on if I didn't hold down the power buttons to force restart it, hence the thrill I get every time I press the power button on the new one and it turns on instantly.

Whilst also worrying about uni offers I also have a good distraction.

I was one of the lunatics that lined up at 5am on Sunday for the free Harry Potter and the Cursed Child final dress rehearsal tickets (Part One is tonight, Part Two is Thursday Night). Ended up getting amazing tickets in the stalls and I can't concentrate on anything else.

I also had the thought that JK Rowling could be there, as it would make sense for her to come down too Aus at some point to promote the show down under and getting 700 fans who were willing to wake up early to be there is a good opportunity.

We have ducklings pretty regularly.

Had a batch the other day (weird time of year for them, but anyway). Mother Duck took them all down to the creek. I follow them usually when this happens because, whilst Mother Duck definitely knows where she's going, she doesn't have that much awareness of, you know, cars driving by.

On the way to the creek, Mother Duck lost one of the ducklings. And so did I. It couldn't jump up a little step the rest of the ducklings could, and then ran off into some shrubbery. Mother Duck waited for minutes and minutes waiting for it to re-join the group, but it didn't. I couldn't see the runaway duckling anywhere. And so after what felt like ages, Mother Duck pushed on and took the rest to the creek. This is the first time I haven't seen Mother Duck be successful in getting all of her ducklings to the creek safely.

So, I was kinda sad about that.

And then, later that day, who do I see in the garden somehow? Mother Duck with the runaway duckling! I think Father Duck must have been with the other ducklings. Mother Duck then took runaway duckling to join the rest.

I don't know how it happened, but very cute!

I first got my Kindle when travelling overseas because it would be more convenient than carrying several paper books. Then when I got back I realised it was also more convenient when travelling on the train (no more need to remember to get a change of book when I'm near the end of the one I'm reading).

And now far too many of my paper books lie sadly unread :(

To carry this on, Erutepa and I just went for a walk down by the river. All of the flowers are blooming and the banks are covered in white and yellow. There were butterflies and birds singing and a colourful little beetle came for a ride some of the way. It's the most beautiful day weather-wise I've seen in a long time.

Tonight I went to a talk about solar panel technology at Swinburne, and it was a great talk - but one of the things that was really nice about it was hearing a positive vision rather than a doom-and-gloom vision, but that that vision was (hopefully) based on real future potential from current and emerging technology and trends, not just head-in-the-sand business as usual.

Some numbers presented: Solar panel price per kWh has dropped by a factor of 500 since the speaker was born in 1976, and is projected to continue to drop, while in the same time capacity has grown by a factor of a million (from a very low base, obviously), and is apparently projected to grow by a factor of 80 in the 30ish years to 2050.

Sounds like you might like the 2040 documentary. Imo it's a bit over-optimistic about some of the tech,  but it's about using current technologies & seeing how their implementation could make the world a better place (for people & the environment) by 2040.

Also I love people being kind to people when they don't have to I think it's the most beautifulest thing ever. Also I love watching people in love with one another because it's so beautiful.

All in all, I love kind people  :)

Idk why, but when people remember the small things about you. One time I was out with one of my friends who I don't always talk to at a restaurant and one the dishes my other friend ordered on behalf of all of us was a meal of melted chocolate and some accompanying fruit and banana bread as well. As she told the order to the waiter, the friend that I didn't always talk to, said while looking at me "oh no, mikaela doesn't like chocolate, can we get a mango smoothie instead please?". He proceeded to smile at me. Confused, I was like "how did you know I don't like chocolate?" and he said "a while ago, you said that chocolate tastes bitter to you regardless and I remember one time you said you always prefer a mango smoothie when there's nothing else you like". It may seem like a weird "little gem", but I always thought there's always a sentiment behind remembering these small things that I always end up appreciating. I told this person ages ago, but the fact that they still remember and never once forgot, where I actually did, I always smile at the thought. It makes me happy that even though you don't always talk to your friends because of circumstances, the small things that you once told them, something you perceived to  be 'not as important', and they are able to recall that despite how long ago you once said that, I will always cherish

Maybe not a gem for whoever lost them but I found two beautiful lost doggos who are giving me lots of cuddles and destroying my only tennis ball which I forgot I had whilst we wait for a ranger to pick them up. I was meant to be studying but this is much better. They were wary at first but they're so affectionate now they've gotten used to me. One of them is apparently used to sleeping on beds and seems offended that I keep kicking her off mine but she has a wet butt.

Update: Rangers came to pick them up just before the owners messaged me so they should be back home soon but the owners are gonna get hit by shelter fees rip. I miss them already </3

Just some soft music and a companion animal while you study - my cat loves to curl up on my lap or rest her head on my arm when I'm at my computer and her presence is so calming. <3

- Putting in dates to look forward to in Google Calendar (and adding colour).
- Thinking about how wholesome this thread is.

Managed to dye my hair green without burning my hair off  8) (probably because I didn't use peroxide and so burning it off again was literally impossible but shhhhh my bald spot is still recovering)

Leaving uni early and grabbing a banh mi and eat-walking at a comfortable pace to the nearby station— and still making it with enough time 🥰

When you finally found a pen that works great, with ink that is not scratchy, dry and actually works like a pen! ;D It is the greatest feeling ;)

So... this Friday is apparently a public holiday, although I’m not entirely sure what for (someone please enlighten me, as I’ve had various answers) and whether it’s a Victorian or nation-wide thing.

Either way, I’m just thankful we have one; it feels like ages since we had a public holiday.

AFAIK, it's the "Friday before the AFL Grand Final" public holiday! Just a VIC thing :P

For me a little gem is when I see new users giving advice or info because then I think "this person stepped outside their comfort zone to try to help someone" and that's always a gem :)

Yes.  It moved from end of September because the Grand Final moved date, and was also renamed to "Thankyou Day".  Proud of our Victorian cats, big and little, for keeping an away final in Victorian hands ;)

Not to be confused with the much longer history behind Cup Day holiday.  Which is what?  Under two weeks away?  We have a mandatory closure for the Monday before Cup Day as well...

Melbourne Cup day is just another holiday for yet again: another sport.
We get the day off for watching horses run around a track🤷‍♀️ And yeah it's in 2 weeks... definitely going  to be a lifesaver for some going exams

Welp.
I bombed out of this year.
BUT, I am grateful that I live in a community that doesn't judge me by some silly little number. I appreciate my friends for all the help they gave me on the path to success a somewhat mediocre score.
Someday, I'll be able to make it to some form of tertiary education, and fully achieve what I had set out to do when I started Year 11 in 2019.
Someday...

Discovering a beautiful singer, when looking for just one song!
(I looked for 'Windmills Of Your Mind' and discovered Elan Catrin Parry singing that and... a few others. If you like traditional English music, you'll probably like this singer)
So now I've discovered yet another album freely available on Youtube that I like!!

I was at the train station and went to sit on a seat and someone near me quickly said 'wait don't sit there it's wet!'. Idk why but it made me happy that some random stranger didn't want me to accidentally sit on a wet seat 🥰

I forgot how much I like campus at this time. It's so peaceful and quiet. Little bits of electricity powered hums but mostly insects, birds, and the sound of your own footsteps.

Today I worked at the registers in my retail job. There was a lovely lady who had a chronic pain flair up while I was serving her, so I helped her put her card through and opened a bag of Mentos she wanted to eat. When I opened the bag, she insisted I have one.

Day made. <3

Taking a walk feeling somewhat downhearted and quite stressed because of uni. Overthinking everything. Then out of nowhere I glanced to the side and in someone's garden was a beautiful rose, perfect in every way, water droplets shining. I just stopped and stared at that one perfect rose; there were others on that bush but somehow, none of them were quite so beautiful as that single rose that had caught my attention. It was so beautiful I almost started crying. Then, at last, I continued on my walk.

It all hasn't felt quite so stressful since.

A child seeing you and grinning all over their face.
Then you crouch down and hold out your arms, and the child runs into them with a very enthusiastic, "Cuddle!"
The age of said child is somewhere between one and two years.

I tutor VCE students and the other day one of my students told me that I had helped him a lot and that he enjoyed coming to my tutoring lessons. Just seeing the smile on his face when he said that made my stressful week so much better.

Hospital replaced the God awful matresses they used to have in psych with actual decent ones since the last time I been here.

Also a nurse gave me a charger for my phone which I think I was meant to give back but havent and it has improved this shitty experience dramatically. Youd think I'd have been in enough by now to know that I should pack.

Having a whole bunch of very nice songs on shuffle and being able to relax 'cause it's uni break and I have no more exams.
What's not so nice (or mildly annoying, or something) is when I get the same song from the different singers I have the albums of, all in a row. Sure, it's different tracks, but it's the same song! (Different arrangement and a soprano rather than a tenor does make it interesting to compare, but still.)

It was absolutely pouring yesterday in Melbourne. I was heading home and had my umbrella out.

As I walk, I saw a lady looking rather uncertain (Lady A). Lady A had  managed to avoid getting thoroughly soaked via sheltered areas from her workplace but she was fast approaching an intersection that offered no shelter. I offered to shelter her with my umbrella and held said umbrella a little higher.

Not even half way to the intersection, another lady (Lady B) shouted from a car stuck in traffic beside us. Lady B must’ve been Lady A’s colleague because Lady A seemed to recognise her. Lady B gave an umbrella via her car window to Lady A, who was super grateful to both of us.
