I’m not sure I have tons of academic achievements except maybe a few distinctions for maths comps and science talent search but I have a lot of extra curricular. I play tennis comp and have a lot of trophies, have a lot of achievements for chess I even went to state and athletics medals. Also I just got middle year’s language captain for my school. If I make interview stage should I talk about those?

Yup, mention everything. Even if it's not an "outstanding achievement" award, mention it too because it shows that you're willing to participate in different things. You seem like you have a good chance of getting in.

Aso does your current school mattter if you try out? I know there's like a 3% rule for everyone who try out so if it's either small or huge does it matter?

Sorry ahah, I don't really understand your question, but I'll try to give a general explanation (please correct me if I'm wrong).

The 3% states that: The maximum number of students admitted into John Monash Science School in Year 10 must not exceed 3% of any one school's Year 9 enrolment. There is no cap on enrolments from any one school to JMSS at any other year level.

The 3% rule is applied to all schools. So if there's a lot of people in your cohort, it's better for you if you're the only one trying out or if there's only a few people. I've heard from a friend that 3 people tried out from this school, but none of them got in? Not sure if this is true, but I think that's possible.
Even if the number of people trying out for JMSS fits with the 3%, it doesn't guarantee that you will all get in. In my case, there was like 4 people from my school trying out (including me) and only I got in.

Hopefully that answers your question? XD

It’s just that I thought a person that went to a bigger school gets to have a better chance of making it in or something. Also is there such thing as a first round offer that doesn’t require you to do the interviews or does everyone have to do it? And if there is a first round offer how many people would get it?
Thanks for answering so many of my questions you’re really a life saver.

I'm pretty sure that everyone has to do an interview. I haven't heard of anyone getting a first round offer after the written exam stage (I may be wrong).

I read this on a previous forum on atar notes from 2016, it may have changed so I’m not quite sure either. Here’s the link if you want to check:

Correct, everyone must do an interview. I know people who have attained 5 superiors and still have had to do an interview. Larger schools are generally better because more available places, although that can mean more of a competition.

The results should be available after the interview stage. You just email the school for the results.

Not everyone is offered an interview because this year, more than 20 girls from my school tried out for JMSS, only around 10 girls were offered an interview, and 5 got in.

Don't waste time on hard questions, if you can't figure it out the method in the first 10-20 seconds, move on. Every question is worth 1 mark so there's no point lingering on hard questions so just come back to them at the end. You don't need to complete the whole test to receive a superior, you just need to be in the top 10% of people sitting that specific test.

I agree with Appo. If you can't figure out the method quickly, just move on.
Other advice:
• Answer every question -- if you don't know it, guess it (obvious tip)
• If you want to skip a question and come back to it, leave a mark next to the question
• Allocate the last 5 minutes to check over answers
• Aim to spend around 1 minute or half a minute for each question
• Aim to be at least halfway when you have half the time remaining
• You can take quick glances at the clock a few times (just so you're aware of how you're going)
When faced with a problem, you either find a way or an excuse.

If you're doing a 60 question / 30 minutes test, each mark worths 30 seconds, so if you don't know how to do a question, just move on, and when the time nearly runs out, guess 'C' (or other choices that you want to colour in).
