text response & comparative analysis help please <3

hey, i was wondering if anyone would be able to provide tips on text response and/or comparative text response. i'm particularly struggling with explaining how the author (mary shelley – frankenstein/year of wonders & the crucible) demonstrates something, as well as in depth analysis (more emphasis on the latter)

i haven't done as well as i had hoped for in my text response SAC, so i'm hoping to improve my text analysis skills before the big comparative SAC D:

When your essay question is asking "how does the author ... (do something)" you should be commenting on structures and features of the text/texts.  With "Year of Wonders and "The Crucible" you might need to consider the common historical period and the nature of the society in both texts, there's a four part structure in both texts, what recurring images are used, features of the specific genre like stage directions, use of a narrator voice.
