Title: Class of 2020
Post by: Sconey on February 11, 2018, 02:44:32 pm
I've seen a bunch of other Year 10's around the forum, so I thought we should have a place to discuss things. I know a lot of us are just starting out in our first Unit 1/2's, or are getting ready for a Selective School Entry Test, so I reckon a centralised place to chat will be great!

How do you know you'll be graduating that year? Do you have 20/20 vision?

Good luck year 10s!

Use this time to find the subjects you enjoy doing for year 12. This is the year to experiment with your subjects to see what you like.

Am I allowed to cringe, or will you, as a Mod, feel it to be your duty to keep up your position by banning me if I do? ;P

Seriously, good luck guys. This is the year in which to begin looking at what you really want to do in life, what you like and what you don't. It is also a great year to start to get to know your VCE teachers if possible, this will be a great asset in Year 11 and 12. For those who are doing 1/2 subjects, this is a great time to experience VCE early, so good luck with that. Just try to enjoy the last years of school, because in a couple of years you won't have this, and it has been such a big part of your life for the past decade, so enjoy it as much as you can.

Spoiler
I just hope none of you are cricket fans like me, or your Year 12 will be seriously be distracted by the 2020 World Cup. Get your priorities right kids: Work comes first. To some extent. Not a very great one, either. :P Jk

permission granted. If you thought that was bad, you should see the mod board.

Cannot stress this enough. Don't choose something purely for scaling. Of course, if you have to choose something for a uni prereq then clearly you'd need to... but in a general sense, do stuff that interests you.

If the subject doesn't run at your school, go and speak to somebody who can make it happen. For subjects that aren't really popular (e.g. IT subjects) but you want to do it, get a few other students (i'd say at least 5) who would be interested in doing it and approach somebody... with enough students and a teacher with the skillset to take it... there's a possibility it will happen.

Every year schools do subject selection on the assumption that the current offering is valid and doesn't need to change. If you want something added and have the student interest, it's up to you to show that interest.

Thanks everyone for their input and advice!

I'm doing Methods and Biology 1/2 this year. I'm already experiencing how content-rich bio is, even though we've only really done 1 sub-topic. I've put a lot of emphasis on keeping good notes, because I know that I'll be thanking myself come test and exam time. I got 90% in our first assessment, so I suppose that's an acceptable start.

As for methods, we've just finishing revising last year's material, Linear and Quadratic Equations and Inequalities, which I did alright in (93% and 85%). And now we're starting on hyperbolas, truncus's and square root graphs. It's good to have a challenge.

Anyone else wanna talk about their subjects?

2020!!!!!  ;D ;D
What schools do you guys go to? :)
I want 2 3/4s in Year 11 and I'm definitely doing Bio, but right now I'm debating between Revs and Psych as well. I like history and I find it interesting but there is so much content and balancing that with Bio and all my 1/2s seems a bit much, especially if I'm aiming for about mid-40s each. I understand Psych has less content than Bio but it's still a fairly wordy subject - which I like :) I feel like it'd be an easier subject to smash and get 45? What do you guys think?
Anyone doing any languages on here?

Yesss lots more bio ppl  ;D

Don’t stress too much if there’s a topic you do badly in - most of the content isn’t specifically relevant to 3/4, having said that definitely try your hardest, as your habits now will carry over to next year.

I want 2 3/4s in Year 11 and I'm definitely doing Bio, but right now I'm debating between Revs and Psych as well.
Bio and psych are fairly similar in the way you need to learn them. I haven’t done revs, but I would say that psych and bio can be a good combination, as there is a little bit of overlap (mostly just experimental design/research methods).

Definitely do two 3/4s in year 11 if your school allows it - just think about how much less work you will have in year 12.

In terms of picking between psych and revs, assuming you definitely want to do both, then do whichever you would rather not do in year 12 (personally I think psych would be the better option, but I haven’t done revs).

:P lol someone like me! I think that Chemistry is certainly going to be something to spend extra time on in the next 2 years, it is fun, but sometimes the concepts require a bit of getting your head round. Good luck anyway in Year 10, and onwards!

Thanks for asking, I really enjoy it. I had some login issues, which is why I submitted such a late reply. Hoping to do Methods 1/2 2019, Yr 11, but not too great at the subject in general. Any other subjects I can pursue? Thanks for any help!  ;D

Yep, that's it! And the idea of threads like this is to give you a place to chat, banter, share advice - whatever you want - with other people from across the state in your same year. :)

At the moment, I'm doing these ordinary ordinary subjects such as English, maths, humanities, R.E. and sport, an art elective (not my forte, but it's my last time to do it before VCE, so why not do it?) and Unit 1 & 2 Psychology. I think I'll be having science as my elective in next term (hopefully....), but I know that I'm going to be doing a chemistry elective in next semester (I'm excited that all my electives will be science-related in next semester!!).

I'm guessing this group is for people who are IN JMSS?

Nope. I don't go to JMSS. In fact, this thread is not exclusive to non-JMSS students at all. : )

Don't really like my current school anyway since it's full of drama, so Imma erase all stuff that happened in high school when I first start my uni (only keeping all great memories that have happened outside my school).

I'm very indecisive at the moment... something between economics, history, legal, methods, english, or geography. I'm definitely doing business 3/4. I've got a few subjects I really want to do but I can't fit them all in... do you think it's wise for me to do an extra of economics or something?

Hey, welcome to the forums! :)

I didn't do any 1/2s in Yr 10, so 6 subjects this year, and though I can't deny that it's hard work it isn't too bad, and really doesn't leave you at a great disadvantage. Just enjoy all the subjects that you do do, and enjoy relaxing this year :D

At my school the vast majority of students didn't do a 1/2 early. I wouldn't worry about it - just make sure that you really understand any content that will be expanded on next year and that you build good study habits

I’m not planning on picking up a 3/4 next year, I think I’ll do 6 Unit 1/2’s. I’m thinking of doing English Language, Methods, Indonesian (SL), P.E., Aus History and Music (not sure which one)

Hey!!

I too am in Year 10 - class of 2020!! I guess that I can be considered a newbie since i've only signed up several weeks back. I'm taking 1/2 HHD this year and planning to smash out 3/4 HHD and VET Vetamorphous next year!! I'm hoping to take English, Maths Methods, Geography and French - all 1/2 - in Year 1, and do 3/4's in Year 12.

I guess that the only thing i've been concerned about is my english and french - eSPECIALLY THE VOCABULARY ~ I CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW FRUSTRATING IT IS TO NOT BE ABLE TO EXPRESS YOURSELF CONCISELY AND USE THE RIGHT WORDS. Do you guys have any resources for vocabulary - both english and french?

Also: which uni's are you aiming for?

Looks like a nice set of subjects ya got there, sounds fun (all except the French). I understand the frustration with not being able to express yourself, since I've spent a lot of time overseas in countries with languages other than English. What are you looking forward to the most in VCE?

Have fun! :)

I have chosen the following for next year (Year 11):
  • VET Business 3/4
  • VCE English 1/2
  • VCE Math Methods 1/2
  • VCE Legal Studies 1/2
  • VET Accounting 3/4
  • I think there's another one...?  ???
Just had a small change... I'm now doing VCE Accounting 1/2 and then the 3/4 unit in year 12, along with our compulsory VET Accounting!

It just seemed the most interesting to me out of all the commerce subjects. After all, I plan to be an accountant! I chose these subjects to keep my options open.

I will be doing further 3/4 and bio 3/4 in year 11!!

Nice! Yeah,  your subjects seem like a pretty good mix to keep your options open.

I hope you enjoy the units you've picked! :)

I had my VCE info night on Tuesday night and we have to have our subjects in by the 21st. ATM I'm going with Eng. Language, Maths Methods, P.E, History, Indonesian and either VCE/VET Music (which is offered by the school) or Music Styles and Composition (by correspondence). I'm leaning towards Music Styles and Composition.

Nice! Absolutely a position full of bias, but I looooove the EngLang selection haha.

I'm a bit bored of mainstream English and EngLang seems the most interesting. Is it basically just the study of English and how we use it?

Yeah, basically! IMO it should really be called "VCE Linguistics". You can find my reviews below:

English Language 1/2 review.
English Language 3/4 review.

Great to see that this thread is becoming busy with excited Year 10's!

The subjects I'm doing next year -
Biology - Unit 3/4
Mathematical Methods - Unit 3/4
Australian and Global Politics - Unit 1/2
English - Unit 1/2
Physics - Unit 1/2
Specialist Mathematics - Unit 1/2

Australian and Global Politics - Unit 1/2

Honestly did not realise that this was a 1/2 subject. Is the intention to move on to Global Politics 3/4?

Not enjoying German? Worried about scores?

What are you planning on doing after high school?

I'm concerned my school - MHS - has inadequately prepared me going into 1/2 German. We've pretty much been going over the same content for 18 months, our cohort is astonishingly weak (back at BHHS I would've struggled to place in the top 5, here I'm frankly clearly the strongest) and the median study score past 2 years is below 28. I'd like to do it but feel let down by the school curriculum. I love German and am going to Leverkusen at the end of the year on exchange.

What was your motivation behind picking methods? Are you excited for it or apprehensive or both?

Sorry for responding so late!

I chose it in year 8 because I wanted to do advanced maths - I was a bit apprehensive but now I'm excited because I guess I just enjoy it! It wasn't a massive jump from last year so I guess that's why I'm pretty happy about it :)

I am so glad to see there's a Year 10 Discussion! Thanks guys!Good on you Sbeccia... I hope you love it as much as me... We've just started it!
I have just about finished VET Business Unit 1/2 as well as our Core Program.
I have chosen the following for next year (Year 11):
  • VET Business 3/4
  • VCE English 1/2
  • VCE Math Methods 1/2
  • VCE Legal Studies 1/2
  • VCE Accounting 3/4

I started it at the beginning of this year and so far I'm loving it! Enjoy :)

3. Physics
4. Italian
5. Chemistry
6. History (20th century and then revs). :)

I'm currently unsure; I'm gonna see if I enjoy the Australian or the Global side of the subject more in the 1/2 and then I'll chose Australian Politics or Global Politics accordingly for the 3/4.

Ughh that sucks...

German was offered at my school but everyone in the advanced class did Japanese,  I liked Jap and was fairly decent at it but I had to drop it due to a subject clash.

I imagine lots of people here can relate to the struggle of wanting to be extended bit bit feeling line you're really learning - I promise that things get better as you head into VCE and then (if that's what you choose) uni

Do you find that you have been able to extend yourself in your own time?

When/how did you start planning exchange?

Spesh 1/2
Accounting 3/4
Chinese 3/4 (outside of school)

- Bio 1/2 (wish i did 1/2 this year tho :-\)
- Chem 1/2
- Legal Studies 3/4
- General Maths 1/2 (was gonna do methods but y i k e s)
- LOTE but not sure if I should repeat 1/2 or continue to 3/4
- Psych 1/2 OR Physics 1/2 if I end up hating psych

good luck y'all!

Spesh wasn't offered at my school,  but aside from that your subjects are fairly similar.

The stereotyping makes it seem more difficult than it actually is,  you'll be alright :)

Nothing to worry about on the assumption you've considered pre-reqs, and are otherwise going for the subjects that sound most interesting to you. :)

P.S. Welcome to ATAR Notes! Great to have you here - looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Afterthought: I did Methods 1/2, and then Further 3/4. Perhaps this could be an option for you if you kinda want to try Methods?

The holidays are close... mixed feelings cos i kind of need the break - but i won't be getting anything of the sort because we're moving house... so :-\ hopefully there is some time to think about other things?!

Next year still feels a fair way away... but really close at the same time! the trouble with my subject selection isn't cleared up yet... so I still don't know whats going to happen about that... a little bit of stress about that - otherwise i am really excited about it!

I got my subjects for next year today. I’m doing Eng. Language, Methods, Indo, History, P.E. and Psych. Psych was my reserve subject as Music clashes with another subject. I’m kind of glad because I don’t think I could commit to practicing as much as is expected. The buzz for next year is starting to build up, despite exams in a couple of weeks.

Judging by some of the journey journals you are certainly not the only one nervous about VCE!
Good luck with your SACs - remember that 1&2 subjects don't contribute to your study score (so it's all about developing the foundations and perfection is really really not necessary) :)

Thanks for letting me know! I knew I’d do something silly like that :/

As of now psych is probably my favourite subject. I wasn’t sure if accelerating in it was the right choice in year 10, but I’m so glad I did as I’m finding the content really interesting. I’m also lucky in that I have a wonderful teacher, although I guess that’s subjective. Honestly can’t wait to learn more psych :)

Actually I’m a med hopeful, don’t think I’ll get in but it’s always worth a try. It’s honestly been my dream career since I was little, and there are times where I cannot imagine myself doing any other course. But as a backup, I have looked at some psych courses, dentistry and biomed. I do remember my psych teacher telling me she did a criminal psych course where as part of her study she got to go to a jail specifically for criminals affected by psychological disorders. For now I’m just going to see how well I do this year before setting my mind hard and fast on a specific uni course.

I am looking forward to it immensely. I've had both my Biology and Methods SACs in the last couple weeks and so am pretty exhausted. Sucks I will have to wait until next term for Biology results though :(

Hey everyone my name is Ray and im in year 11 right now. I am doing a 3/4 this year, which is informatics. I love I.T and i'm loving the subject currently. I am hoping to get a 40+ study score despite being in a 400+ ranked school.
My other subjects include:
Psychology
Legal Studies
Business Management
Further Math
English

I am finding Psychology average so far, i don't enjoy research methods and brain anatomy. However, i do love the social aspect of psycholoy.

I am LOVING legal studies it is my favourite 1/2 so far, it is very interesting and i enjoy the structure.

Business management is normal for me. I dont hate it and i dont like it. I can deal with it. Nothing clicks with me, im hoping marketing and human resource management can pick it up.

Further math is pretty fun for me. I got an average score of 74% during the first sac which i was disappointed with but understand. I didnt finish my sac due to my poor time management during sacs, which i am working on.

English. The dark horse. I got average marks for this subject, expected lower, honestly. I enjoy english however, i feel like an imposter getting the highest marks in the class because i know im horrible at english.

I got 95% my first Informatics sac and highest in class. It involved relational databases and I.T theory. It was quite enjoyable and i look forward for the rest of the sacs.

I got 92% for my Legal Studies which i was happy with. We have finished the 2nd sac and are waiting for results.

I got 84% first sac for business which i was okay with, i expected around 80% but i am still aiming high 90's.

I got 78% for psych and 74% for further math which i am also okay with but disappointed.

English i got 88% and 70%. I am surprised 70% was the 2nd highest in class because I BOMBED the sac. 88% was the highest and i'm happy with that.

Im worried for a low study score for Informatics as we have an extremely weak cohort which i hope doesn't drag me down. I will however continue to support my fellow students in their studies to increase strength.

I want to become a diplomat, despite hearing how competitive it is i look forward to the challenge.

For university i plan to go to monsash to do a science/arts double degree majoring in geographical science/International Relations and Korean Studies

I'm worried about writing essays in university as i am a horrible essay writer but i do plan to improve.

My hobbies are guitar, games, creating films, music and theatre.
I am part of the schools musical

I rambled on too much sorry! I look forward for VCE and what it beholds

Hey Ray
You seem to be doing extremely well on Informatics
You shouldn't worry about your cohort to much, AS long as you stay around the top... u should be pretty good
As for psychology . . . I'm doing 3/4 psych this year, it gets more enjoyable and interesting... I didn't even bother doing the 1/2 course cause it looked so boring but picked up 3/4. There is a fair bit of biology at the start of the year (neurons, spinal reflex, stress)   but not heavily intense. (pretty basic)

anyways good luck

Hey!

I went to a school where in the past most students got a below 50 ATAR & we hadn't a 90+ ATAR in years but in my cohort we had 3 95+ ATARs so your school's history certainly doesn't define your performance.

Best of luck with your subjects :)

(Absolutely nothing to apologise for btw )

I'd go for the class you'll be most engaged in because otherwise it's very difficult to stay motivated to do work ( & you won't be able to get a great psych score without putting effort to understand what they want from your answers).

Might be worth talking to the legal studies teacher about how hard it would be to catch up & what their thoughts are.

Good luck & let us knew what you decide :)

I don't do psych at the moment so I wouldn't know about that but I've enjoyed doing legal this year. I will admit, it is a little challenging at the start because there is a specific structure to answering questions but once you get your head around that, it's pretty fun.  Personally, I like how legal contrasts with my other science-y subjects and allows to explore the laws of my country and understand the behind the scenes of how it works. I don't find the concepts difficult, it's just the style of writing but practice does make perfect. I think you would like it if you enjoy learning about how our legal system works which I think everyone should be educated about.
Also, I like how legal makes me enjoy watching the news because my teacher always mentions current cases.
Good luck deciding! (I'm going through a subject dilemma myself :()

hey guys,

I'm in need of some opinions!

The subjects i'm currently doing are:
3/4 Phys Ed
1/2 English
1/2 General Maths
1/2 Accounting
1/2 Bus Man
1/2 Economics

I'm doing well in my subjects and i'm happy with how i'm going and i'm confident i'll do well in year 12. However, i'm interested in doing Uni Extension Accounting at either Monash or Deakin next year. So i've decided that after the completion of phys ed this year, the subjects i've decided to definitely do next year (if i get accepted into Uni Extension) are:
3/4 English because its compulsory.
3/4 General Maths because it's an easy subject that i'm confident i can get a 40+ ss in.
3/4 Accounting because i have to concurrently do it with Uni Extension.

My problem is that i'm not sure on completing either bus man or economics next year as they both have a heap of cons (in my opinion). With bus man, its really easy and its a subject that i'm sure i will do well in but it is sooooooooo boring. I feel unmotivated to complete any homework as well as study for sacs. As well as this, my cohort will be very strong and i'll need to dedicate a lot of my time into it to achieve a high score. With economics, it's the complete opposite of bus man where i love the subject. However, my teacher at school isn't really a great teacher and i feel as though your teacher contributes a heap to your success in a subject. I don't feel as though I could talk to my teacher next year because the usual answer i'd receive is a really bad one which doesn't really answer the question. However, with this subject, at my school there is only one class and our class is really tight and help each other every time.

Sorry for this long post but my course counselling is in around a month's time and time sure does fly when you're having fun.
Cheers.

It's great that you love yourself. If you love yourself to such an extent, you should love inspiring yourself. Why is your teacher not a great teacher? In VCE it is the responsibility of us students to supplement what may haven't been covered in depth. If its soooo boring and you don't need it as a Prereq than I suggest to consider dropping it unless the pathway you're aiming to take requires some foundational knowledge. Short-term suffering is lighter than the feeling of "what if" I did the subject.

Difficult to comment too much (I'd definitely recommend speaking to any teachers at school you're comfortable discussing with), but from what you've said, I'd be going with Eco. If you love Economics and find Business really difficult to get motivated for, I think that's your answer.

Good luck - keep us updated! :)

I don't know what subjects to do other then Further, English and Legal Studies.

I need to choose two more subjects but I don't know what to choose.
My school offers very few subjects and I'm not interested or am worried I'll hate them as I've never done them before.

They offer:
Bio (already done it)
Business (boring I hate it)
Food Studies (never done it)
HHD (never done it)
Literature (did it in year 10 and struggled)
Media (never done it)
Physics (never done it)
Legal Studies (already gonna do it)
Psych (doing 1/2 and the teacher doesnt teach (like every other teacher at my little rural school) every lesson since the start of the year its been "for today's lesson we will watch Edrolo")
VisCom (did it in year 9 and didnt really like it)
Studio Arts (haven't done art since year 8)

How did everyone else choose? Any advice would be awesome (because right now imma just be like fk it and do 4 subjects and get a shitty atar)

Studio Arts (haven't done art since year 8)

How did everyone else choose? Any advice would be awesome (because right now imma just be like fk it and do 4 subjects and get a shitty atar)

Choosing your subjects depends on a lot of factors that generally follow a loose priority:

1. Subjects you enjoy. This is a obvious one but subjects that are boring for you, like Business in your case, will be incrediblly hard to do well in as you simply won't have the drive to do well in it.

2. Subjects that either complement your other subjects and/or complement your learning style. Some subjects go hand in hand with and have overlapping content; particularly Physics and higher mathematics (spesh or methods, but not further maths) or even Systems Engineering. Secondly, some subjects are quite similar in the learning style that may click for you. For instance, maths, physics, computing, etc require more abstract and logical application whereas Biology, Business, etc is more memory based with a lot more content to remember but broader application.

3. Subjects that have good support at your school and as a whole. The unfortunate reality is that some subjects won't be taught as well as it can be or you hope it to be, you have already seen this with your Psych class. This is not always a problem though, it depends on how supported the subject is as a whole. Smaller VCE subjects have significantly less resources to utilise outside of class which makes you more teacher dependant. ie. Computing has one book that has very vague and sometimes contradictory explainations so if your computing teacher is bad, you will have a difficult time. Maths however has a huge amount of resources outside the class so if your maths teacher isn't so great, you can seek outside resouces fairly easily.

4. Subjects that are assessed in a format you are confident with. Every subject will have a different way of assessing the content. English will have essays, Lote will have orals, Maths will have multiple choose and short answer test papers, etc. This is a smaller thing to consider compared to the other three I have mentioned but its still important, if you aren't good at essays avoid essay heavy subjects (English, History, etc.). If you aren't good at orals, avoid oral heavy subjects (Lote, English, etc.).

What to avoid:
1. Choosing subjects based on scaling. Generally speaking, the greater the scaling the more competitive the subject. This is not always the case but subjects like Chemistry and Specialist Maths are particularly hard because very high achievers the 99+ ATAR people are competiting in these subjects for better odds. In addition this, its just a bad idea to purely focus on scaling as at the end of the day, a few study score points from scaling pales compared to the many points you'll be losing if you choose a bad subject for you.

2. Choosing subjects that are generally considered the "easy" option: This is a little hard to recommend as these types of subjects are kinda hard to identify but i'll give an example. Further maths is "easy" if you have a solid grasp of mathematics, but the problem with this subject is because people of this mindset choose Further maths, it makes the top positions for the subject immensly hard to get. The margin for error is incrediblly high once you get upto the 45+ study score of Further maths. This is speaking from experience, I did Further Maths in my VCE and lost around 6 marks total on my SACS and got A+'s on my exams and ended up with a 43. In the higher levels a mark can cost a whole study score point. Im not sure if this is particular to further maths but its something to keep in mind. This is not an endorsement to deliberately choose methods or spesh to avoid this but if you have a solid grasp in a subject area, choose the hardest option as it has more room for error. Harder subjects in general have more breathing room so you don't have to stress about a mark here and there.

All this being said, it depends on your ATAR goal too. The hardest subjects are more fruitful, if only you are truely commited to them but as I said earlier, some subjects may be better for you depending on you personally.

This is a bit of a ramble but I hope it helps  ;D

Studio Arts (haven't done art since year 8)

How did everyone else choose? Any advice would be awesome (because right now imma just be like fk it and do 4 subjects and get a shitty atar)

So, to condense your list a little:

Business (boring I hate it)
Food Studies (never done it)
HHD (never done it)
Literature (did it in year 10 and struggled)
Media (never done it)
Physics (never done it)
Psych (doing 1/2 and the teacher doesnt teach (like every other teacher at my little rural school) every lesson since the start of the year its been "for today's lesson we will watch Edrolo")
VisCom (did it in year 9 and didnt really like it)
Studio Arts (haven't done art since year 8)

I'd remove Business if you hate it. HHD is a pretty popular option to pick up in Year 12, and personally I found the content interesting and applicable to everybody. With Psych, your teacher/their teaching style might be different in Year 12? And even if that's not the case, the classroom isn't the only way you can learn the content/do well.

Choosing your subjects depends on a lot of factors that generally follow a loose priority...

Great post. :)

Hey there, I'm not sure if you've realised, but just to inform you that Monash is no longer offering uni extension programs from the end of this year, so you gotta have to do it either at Deakin or another uni (massive dang it about Monash, argh!)

Hey Imaoissajoke,
I'm in the same boat as you, having also received a 27 in Biology in Year 11 but having 95+ ATAR aspirations and you can definitely score above 95 (even if you only had 4 subjects you could so it is definitely within reach), there are a heap of useful resources around the internet and ATARNotes specifically, send me a message and I'll send you my document with a bunch of links you might be interested in looking at

Kitchenette actually, its a special Yr 12 privledge to be allowed to microwave food and make cups of tea  :P
Ahh I have fond memories of the kitchenette in the year 12 common room. Just make sure it's all kept clean because otherwise you'll get mice...I remember our year level getting a few lectures from the coordinator about that haha.

As those above, we had a pretty similar situation in year 12 too. Although I barely used those privileges.

It was the creative piece SAC, and I'm fairly happy with what I've produced.
I hope my teacher likes it to 🤞

How are you finding the workload of your subjects?

Hey J_Rho!
To be honest, school's not really giving much work but in my individual study, there's so much to do! Haha, totally relate to that! I always have Psychology after Chemistry, so whenever I go to Psychology, I'm still thinking about thermochemical equations and I have to tell my brain 'no, think about stress!'.
How are you finding your subjects? Which one are you currently enjoying right now?

Oo, which SAC is it?

My first SAC(s) is on the 11 March, so less than 2 weeks.  :P
Aand, I just found out today that I have two SACs on the one day. Psychology and Literature. When I found out, I was so scared and I literally zoned out for the whole period because I was so stressed. But, now I'm fine. I think it'll be fine. Hopefully! It's also good practice for the end of the year when I'll potentially have the Specialist Exam 2 and Literature on the same day.  :)

Ah great to see you're looking at it from a positive point of view. You'll do great!

As for me, I've already had my creative sac. On the week starting 23rd of March, I have a further bio and English sac,  so that is gonna be bussyy.   :'(

Then Chem and Physics shortly after that. Ngl, I'ts a pretty slack term for me since I only have 3 SACs, just trying to keep the ball rolling in preparation for next term.

Have two online assessments next week with freakin time limits. One of them is a SAC (where you have a limited amount of time to answer the question and if you don't finish it bad luck they show you the second one) and the other assessment is one of those may be counted towards our SS according to the Plan B or C scheme yay.

Stresss, gotta de-stresss

Thats sucks that each question has a time limit!!!

I have a SAC next week also, but we are doing it in google classroom and the work has to be "turned in" at the end of each session. The teachers will also be checking edit history to make sure we are only working on it during the allocated time.

Well for the SAC I have we get like 15 minutes to check at the end, but if you think about it its really just 3-5 minutes (take into account good ol' technical issues).

wait... EDIT HISTORY?? holy freakin smoke hole

Yeah that's fair, it's all really difficult I defs think VCAA should have given schools ways of administering SAC's so schools had some idea what to do and keep it kinda consistent.

For all the other subjects probably not but apparently for methods they’ve given guidance?? At least that’s what my methods teacher said. For all my science subjects we are doing SACs while connected to video does that sound like what anyone else is doing? And for English essay we have 3 hours and it’s not connected to a video which is strange. I’m very worried about losing my ranking which I worked hard for because I don’t want to cheat but I don’t think I can beat those who do! Apperantly they’ll authenticate these results when we go back......how?

My school was saying that they've not given any advice on how to run assessments yet, and they're still in the dark of what to do. Apparently they *should* make a better announcement soon??

As of now, (this is a bit old though) this is what VCAA says to schools about delvering online assessments:
https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/news-and-events/latest-news/Novel%20coronavirus%20update/Pages/ContinuityofLearning.aspx

[look under section on 'School Assessed Coursework']

Hopefully they'll be some better clarity soon.

The Year 11 results plan is included in Plan C, not sure how the GAT calculation differs in those plans. From what I'm aware of, the GAT will be more significant than it already was.

Absolutely love it how all my exams are not on the same date! (Usually PDT and Methods are together so I'm glad they are not). Methods Exam 2 in the afternoon might be a struggle though (I tend to shut down after 3pm) but overall, I'm really happy all my exams are in the morning ;D. (Even better I finish on the 24th of November).

Can't believe the results are coming out on the 30th December too. This feels super real now. How is everyone else with their exam timetable?

That's great that PDT is not with methods ashmi! My exam timetable is pretty good, nice and spaced out (apart from the 4 maths in a row - which was to be expected). I'm super happy that I don't have the long weekend in between the spec exams like there usually would be!

Yeah, I'm not too sure about exam results coming in after christmas. I mean, I totally understand why it will take that long but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck a little.

I haven't really been stressed all year, but now I realise I might want to do a course that will be at the top end of my ATAR possibilities (though I think I can handle it), and so I suddenly realise I need nearly every point I can get. No pressure.
The word for this year is 'unprecedented'. :)

I'm... stunned.

However, before Monday I hadn't started exam revision, so...

Aww no, that's terrible. I hope all your body's resources aren't depleted, so that you can smash that psych exam!! Really though, maybe you should take a lil' break and see how you go? I mean, exhaustion's not the ideal stage to be in, right now or any time for that matter.

Yeah, hopefully I pull through in time for the exam! I just feel like I don't have a very deep understanding of one of my texts. Ah well, there's still time.

The rest of my revision's going much better thankfully! Although with Specialist Math and Chemistry, my progress is a bit worrying, if I'm being honest. So many silly mistakes!

Also guys I have a question. If you have your exams bunched up when do you stop revision? For example I have psych, bio, English next week within three days so I’m stopping bio and psych study next Saturday/Sunday and I feel like I’ve been cheated haha. Good for you! :D Is that your last exam?

Are we talking exams, or results?
The exam period finishes soon (is it today?). The results come out on December 30. Doubtless we are all waiting with bated breath... although we should still be breathing, it's healthier that way. ;)

What's the last day of year 12 that you have to attend school?

HSC and QCE finished last Friday and I just wanted to know what day VCE finishes.

I'm a little confused by what you mean by 'attend school'. My class had their last-day-of-school a while before exams. However, we have our graduation-type day soon, if that's what you're referring to. Although I don't know about other schools.

Yeah that's what I'm referring to. Your graduation day. Sorry for making it sound so confusing.

Each schools graduation day is different and usually before exams.

P.S Cat in the Hat languages are still next week! The very last exam is Italian on Tuesday!

Oh yeah, I forgot... my class (a small one) all had their last exam last week, we were celebrating except for one language student... I felt so sorry for him....
EDIT: Re-read my words 'last week'... it was yesterday. Feels a long time ago already! :)

How are we all feeling post-exams and pre-ATAR? :)

Honestly, not as nervous as I thought I'd be. I'm spending most of my time catching up on things I wasn't able to do when I was too focused on studying for exams. Wbu?  ;D

Me too!... and trying not to think about ATAR, really - but it's been creeping into my dreams! :P
