How do you know you'll be graduating that year? Do you have 20/20 vision?
How do you know you'll be graduating that year? Do you have 20/20 vision?Am I allowed to cringe, or will you, as a Mod, feel it to be your duty to keep up your position by banning me if I do? ;P
Am I allowed to cringepermission granted. If you thought that was bad, you should see the mod board.
Use this time to find the subjects you enjoy doing for year 12.Cannot stress this enough. Don't choose something purely for scaling. Of course, if you have to choose something for a uni prereq then clearly you'd need to... but in a general sense, do stuff that interests you.
I want 2 3/4s in Year 11 and I'm definitely doing Bio, but right now I'm debating between Revs and Psych as well.Bio and psych are fairly similar in the way you need to learn them. I haven’t done revs, but I would say that psych and bio can be a good combination, as there is a little bit of overlap (mostly just experimental design/research methods).
Finally, been waiting for this thread for ages but been to lazy to start it lol. My 1/2's are business and chem, anyone else doing those?:P lol someone like me! I think that Chemistry is certainly going to be something to spend extra time on in the next 2 years, it is fun, but sometimes the concepts require a bit of getting your head round. Good luck anyway in Year 10, and onwards!
I am in Year 10, and doing Bio 1/2! I am also a newbie here on ATAR Notes. ;D
My 1/2's are business and chem
oooooooooo cool! my school doesn't offer chem 1/2 in year 10 :/
I love this thread! Thanks for making it, Sconey. :)
Welcome to ATAR Notes! Great to have you here. :) How are you finding Bio at the moment?
oOooOo noice noice but i don’t get the whole class of ‘insert year’, please explain : ’))
edit: lmao nvm ive figured it out;; but if anyone else was wondering, it’s the year you graduate high school im pretty sure (don’t quote me on that)

Yep, that's it! And the idea of threads like this is to give you a place to chat, banter, share advice - whatever you want - with other people from across the state in your same year. :)
What subjects are y'all taking at the moment?
I'm guessing this group is for people who are IN JMSS?
Jesus, is it really 'Class of 2020' already? Damn, I was Class of 2010.
Oh boy! I'll be graduating from high school 10 years after your graduation then! Ahahahaha! 😂😂
I can barely remember High School and you won't even do it for another 1.5 years.. I knew I shouldn't still hang around this forum.
Don't really like my current school anyway since it's full of drama, so Imma erase all stuff that happened in high school when I first start my uni (only keeping all great memories that have happened outside my school).
Gee, how long have you been part of the forum??
Well if click on my profile I signed up in 2008, but there was a period of time from like 2011 to 2016 where I didn't sign on here. Only came back when I started my Masters, and even now I sign on once every 3-6 months.
Heyo,
We now have a dedicated forum for Year 10 discussion! ;D I've moved this thread into that new forum, and also stickied it. Feel free to make new threads about different aspects of Year 10 life in this forum. :)
Thanks for tidying it up. I did not realise that there was another Class of 2020 thread.
Does anyone know what subjects they're gonna do next year, or have at least got some ideas about their next year's VCE subjects?
Do you feel confident in your VCE subject selection?
Is this something you have put a lot of thought into?
Yesh, I know the subjects that I'm going to do next year:
* Units 3 & 4 Psychology
* Units 1 & 2 Chemistry
* Units 1 & 2 Biology
* Units 1 & 2 Maths Methods
* Units 1 & 2 Specialist Maths
* Units 1 & 2 English
Finally, been waiting for this thread for ages but been to lazy to start it lol. My 1/2's are business and chem, anyone else doing those?2020 here we come!!
2020 here we come!!
I'm doing business 1/2 in year 10 as well :D
Already choosing year 11 electives....never thought i could get this old... :o
What subjects are you looking at? :)
I'm very indecisive at the moment... something between economics, history, legal, methods, english, or geography. I'm definitely doing business 3/4. I've got a few subjects I really want to do but I can't fit them all in... do you think it's wise for me to do an extra of economics or something? Are you better at comprehensive writing, or analytical?

Good to see a thread for us year 10s. Am I at a disadvantage by not doing a 1/2 subject this year?Hey, welcome to the forums! :)

Great to have you here. :) Some good responses above. Are you planning to pick up a Units 3 and 4 subject next year? Is that something your school allows without doing a Units 1 and 2?I’m not planning on picking up a 3/4 next year, I think I’ll do 6 Unit 1/2’s. I’m thinking of doing English Language, Methods, Indonesian (SL), P.E., Aus History and Music (not sure which one)
Good lord this is an early start ::)
Who's doing 1/2s this year?
I'm doing Methods! Anyone else? :) :)
I'm doing Methods! Anyone else? :) :)Good on you Sbeccia... I hope you love it as much as me... We've just started it!
Good lord this is an early start ::)I am... just VET Business

I am so glad to see there's a Year 10 Discussion! Thanks guys!Good on you Sbeccia... I hope you love it as much as me... We've just started it!Which are you looking forward to the most?
I have just about finished VET Business Unit 1/2 as well as our Core Program.
I have chosen the following for next year (Year 11):
- VET Business 3/4
- VCE English 1/2
- VCE Math Methods 1/2
- VCE Legal Studies 1/2
- VCE Accounting 3/4
- I think there's another one...? ???
Hey!!Hey, welcome! :)
I too am in Year 10 - class of 2020!! I guess that I can be considered a newbie since i've only signed up several weeks back. I'm taking 1/2 HHD this year and planning to smash out 3/4 HHD and VET Vetamorphous next year!! I'm hoping to take English, Maths Methods, Geography and French - all 1/2 - in Year 1, and do 3/4's in Year 12.
I guess that the only thing i've been concerned about is my english and french - eSPECIALLY THE VOCABULARY ~ I CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW FRUSTRATING IT IS TO NOT BE ABLE TO EXPRESS YOURSELF CONCISELY AND USE THE RIGHT WORDS. Do you guys have any resources for vocabulary - both english and french?
Also: which uni's are you aiming for?

2020!!!!! ;D ;DI'm at Glenvale School... I think that doing subjects I like I will have more chance at getting really good marks?! Let us know when you choose!
What schools do you guys go to? :)
Just wanted to know what everyone was doing :)))
Currently I am doing :
Bio 1/2 and general math 1/2
Next year I plan to do: chem 1/2, methods 1/2, accounting 1/2, eng lang 1/2
are these good??

I have chosen the following for next year (Year 11):Just had a small change... I'm now doing VCE Accounting 1/2 and then the 3/4 unit in year 12, along with our compulsory VET Accounting!
- VET Business 3/4
- VCE English 1/2
- VCE Math Methods 1/2
- VCE Legal Studies 1/2
- VET Accounting 3/4
- I think there's another one...? ???
I think they're pretty good!It just seemed the most interesting to me out of all the commerce subjects. After all, I plan to be an accountant! I chose these subjects to keep my options open.
What interested you about accounting?
Welcome to the forums! :) Are you doing any 3/4 subjects next year?I will be doing further 3/4 and bio 3/4 in year 11!!

I had my VCE info night on Tuesday night and we have to have our subjects in by the 21st. ATM I'm going with Eng. Language, Maths Methods, P.E, History, Indonesian and either VCE/VET Music (which is offered by the school) or Music Styles and Composition (by correspondence). I'm leaning towards Music Styles and Composition.
Nice! Absolutely a position full of bias, but I looooove the EngLang selection haha.I'm a bit bored of mainstream English and EngLang seems the most interesting. Is it basically just the study of English and how we use it?
I'm a bit bored of mainstream English and EngLang seems the most interesting. Is it basically just the study of English and how we use it?
Yeah, basically! IMO it should really be called "VCE Linguistics". You can find my reviews below:Thanks for linking them, I'll have a look at them when I get home. I'm currently in English now :(
English Language 1/2 review.
English Language 3/4 review.
:)
Australian and Global Politics - Unit 1/2
Planned VCE sequence is as follows -
- VET Business
- Revs Y11 3/4
- Eng Lang
- German (may drop for Lit or Eng after unit 1)
- Legal studies
- Economics
Not enjoying German? Worried about scores?I'm concerned my school - MHS - has inadequately prepared me going into 1/2 German. We've pretty much been going over the same content for 18 months, our cohort is astonishingly weak (back at BHHS I would've struggled to place in the top 5, here I'm frankly clearly the strongest) and the median study score past 2 years is below 28. I'd like to do it but feel let down by the school curriculum. I love German and am going to Leverkusen at the end of the year on exchange.
What are you planning on doing after high school?
What was your motivation behind picking methods? Are you excited for it or apprehensive or both?
I am so glad to see there's a Year 10 Discussion! Thanks guys!Good on you Sbeccia... I hope you love it as much as me... We've just started it!

Honestly did not realise that this was a 1/2 subject. Is the intention to move on to Global Politics 3/4?

I'm currently unsure; I'm gonna see if I enjoy the Australian or the Global side of the subject more in the 1/2 and then I'll chose Australian Politics or Global Politics accordingly for the 3/4.
Just wanted to know what everyone was doing :)))I'm actually planning to do 7 VCE Subjects instead of 6, and I honestly don't know how I'll go.....

But anyways, I've chosen:
English 1/2
Chem 1/2
Physics 1/2
Methods 1/2
Spesh 1/2
Accounting 3/4
Chinese 3/4 (outside of school)
How stuffed am I for next year?
Oof, now I'm slightly worried about subjects for next year.
I'll be doing
- English 1/2
- Bio 1/2 (wish i did 1/2 this year tho :-\)
- Chem 1/2
- Legal Studies 3/4
- General Maths 1/2 (was gonna do methods but y i k e s)
- LOTE but not sure if I should repeat 1/2 or continue to 3/4
- Psych 1/2 OR Physics 1/2 if I end up hating psych
good luck y'all!

Spesh wasn't offered at my school, but aside from that your subjects are fairly similar. Thanks! Hopefully I'll survive next year :-\
The stereotyping makes it seem more difficult than it actually is, you'll be alright :)
I got my subjects for next year today. I’m doing Eng. Language, Methods, Indo, History, P.E. and Psych. Psych was my reserve subject as Music clashes with another subject. I’m kind of glad because I don’t think I could commit to practicing as much as is expected. The buzz for next year is starting to build up, despite exams in a couple of weeks. What do you reckon your favourite subject will be?

OOooh history! I see you're an intellectual ;D ;D Which history subject are you doing? Thanks! For Unit 3 & 4 I’ll be doing Aus. History, I love 20th century history so I’m really looking forward to doing it next year.
That was me in year 10 too - I was planning on doing music for VCE but the school couldn't work out the timetable clash and that's how I ended up in global politics.
Good luck your upcoming exams!
Nice mix! Great choice on EngLang - I reckon you'll love it. ;DI’m super bored of mainstream English so I’ve got my hopes up that it’ll be good
Feeling relieved... 2018 has been one hell of a year for me! I'm really hoping I can improve my health over the break and get back to school refreshed ready to start year 11! The only think planned for my holidays is having 4 wisdom teeth out in January and a couple of weeks worth of work experience! Other than that I'll probably just be taking it one day at a time! :-\ :D
Good on you for getting the wisdoms out. I'm nearly 24 and need them out but too much of a chicken to get them out. I planned it in Jan too so we'll see if we ever get there or not :Phaha... i didn't/don't want to! They are pushing down on my other teeth, mucking up 9 years of orthodontics and giving me horrific toothache so I had no choice! ATB with yours... I hope you recover well!
How do you know you'll be graduating that year? Do you have 20/20 vision?
1 week of school and I'm already drained :-\
How is everyone else? Am I the only one that's nervous af for VCE?
My first bio SAC is on the 28th this month and I have a methods test tmr so that's great :(
Just checking in with y'all! How are we doing fam? :)
Decent I would say so far considering I've got to keep up with 2 3/4 subjects as a year 11 (Further maths and global politics) but other than that just being consistent with homework/study schedule :)

Favourite parts of your 3/4s so far? ^-^
It's also great to hear that you have a decent study/homework schedule going on too! ^-^
First post on ATARnotes!Welcome to the forum! Hope you stick around! ;D
This year I'm doing two 3/4's - psych and food studies.
Hopefully the year goes well!

Great to have you here! I love the way you've formatted your signature (except I think you've listed Bio twice haha). :D
I didn't do Food Studies, but loved Psych. How are you finding it so far?
Thanks for letting me know! I knew I’d do something silly like that :/
As of now psych is probably my favourite subject. I wasn’t sure if accelerating in it was the right choice in year 10, but I’m so glad I did as I’m finding the content really interesting. I’m also lucky in that I have a wonderful teacher, although I guess that’s subjective. Honestly can’t wait to learn more psych :)
No stress! Haha.
Psych - yeah I think that's an awesome idea. I didn't accelerate it (did Business Management 3&4 in Year 11 - I have regrets haha). Are you interested in doing Psych kinda stuff after school at all?
Actually I’m a med hopeful, don’t think I’ll get in but it’s always worth a try. It’s honestly been my dream career since I was little, and there are times where I cannot imagine myself doing any other course. But as a backup, I have looked at some psych courses, dentistry and biomed. I do remember my psych teacher telling me she did a criminal psych course where as part of her study she got to go to a jail specifically for criminals affected by psychological disorders. For now I’m just going to see how well I do this year before setting my mind hard and fast on a specific uni course.
How has it been going for everyone? It's getting close to the end of Term 1 and I'm sure some of you have had SACs/How's it going for you Sconey? Keen for a break soon? :)
How's it going for you Sconey? Keen for a break soon? :)I am looking forward to it immensely. I've had both my Biology and Methods SACs in the last couple weeks and so am pretty exhausted. Sucks I will have to wait until next term for Biology results though :(
My other subjects include:
Psychology
Legal Studies
Business Management
Further Math
English
I am finding Psychology average so far, i don't enjoy research methods and brain anatomy. However, i do love the social aspect of psycholoy.

hey guys,
I'm in need of some opinions!
The subjects i'm currently doing are:
3/4 Phys Ed
1/2 English
1/2 General Maths
1/2 Accounting
1/2 Bus Man
1/2 Economics
I'm doing well in my subjects and i'm happy with how i'm going and i'm confident i'll do well in year 12. However, i'm interested in doing Uni Extension Accounting at either Monash or Deakin next year. So i've decided that after the completion of phys ed this year, the subjects i've decided to definitely do next year (if i get accepted into Uni Extension) are:
3/4 English because its compulsory.
3/4 General Maths because it's an easy subject that i'm confident i can get a 40+ ss in.
3/4 Accounting because i have to concurrently do it with Uni Extension.
My problem is that i'm not sure on completing either bus man or economics next year as they both have a heap of cons (in my opinion). With bus man, its really easy and its a subject that i'm sure i will do well in but it is sooooooooo boring. I feel unmotivated to complete any homework as well as study for sacs. As well as this, my cohort will be very strong and i'll need to dedicate a lot of my time into it to achieve a high score. With economics, it's the complete opposite of bus man where i love the subject. However, my teacher at school isn't really a great teacher and i feel as though your teacher contributes a heap to your success in a subject. I don't feel as though I could talk to my teacher next year because the usual answer i'd receive is a really bad one which doesn't really answer the question. However, with this subject, at my school there is only one class and our class is really tight and help each other every time.
Sorry for this long post but my course counselling is in around a month's time and time sure does fly when you're having fun.
Cheers.

I don't know what subjects to do other then Further, English and Legal Studies.
I need to choose two more subjects but I don't know what to choose.
My school offers very few subjects and I'm not interested or am worried I'll hate them as I've never done them before.
They offer:
Bio (already done it)
Business (boring I hate it)
Food Studies (never done it)
HHD (never done it)
Literature (did it in year 10 and struggled)
Media (never done it)
Physics (never done it)
Legal Studies (already gonna do it)
Psych (doing 1/2 and the teacher is completely retarded "for today's lesson we will watch Edrolo")
VisCom (did it in year 9 and didnt really like it)
Studio Arts (haven't done art since year 8)
How did everyone else choose? Any advice would be awesome (because right now imma just be like fk it and do 4 subjects and get a shitty atar)

Cheers.
Hey guys I was wondering if you guys can give me any study tips. I have completed bio 3/4 in year 11 and i have gotten atrocious score of 27. I was very disappointed but I know i can't change anything but I was wondering if i can still get above 95 ATAR and if so how can i score 40+ for the rest of my subjects.
My subjects for 2020 are:
Maths Methods 3/4
English 3/4
Chemistry 3/4
Psychology 3/4
Legal Studies 3/4
please help me it would be much appreciated as I would love to get into medicine.

Year 12 hoodies, the kitchen and legal studies!!
You get a kitchen?? :o
Kitchenette actually, its a special Yr 12 privledge to be allowed to microwave food and make cups of tea :P
We have the same thing at our school! It's great ;D
Kitchenette actually, its a special Yr 12 privledge to be allowed to microwave food and make cups of tea :PMy school had hot water and multiple sandwich presses and microwaves for everyone as well as some in the grad room :p
Kitchenette actually, its a special Yr 12 privledge to be allowed to microwave food and make cups of tea :PAhh I have fond memories of the kitchenette in the year 12 common room. Just make sure it's all kept clean because otherwise you'll get mice...I remember our year level getting a few lectures from the coordinator about that haha.
Kitchenette actually, its a special Yr 12 privledge to be allowed to microwave food and make cups of tea :PAs those above, we had a pretty similar situation in year 12 too. Although I barely used those privileges.
Hey guys! ;D
How are you all doing?
tired but relieved (finished my English SAC today 💤)Wow, that's so good! Your first English SAC done! You can relax now! How did the English SAC go?
wbu?

Eh, I'm tired as well, but pushing through and getting there. :)That's the way! 8)
It was the creative piece SAC, and I'm fairly happy with what I've produced.I'm sure you did extremely well!
I hope my teacher likes it to 🤞
Eh, I'm tired as well, but pushing through and getting there. :)How are you finding the workload of your subjects?
How are you finding the workload of your subjects?Hey J_Rho!
I've attended every class so far however i went into class the other day and felt like i was a week behind! Its so weird how the lessons are super separate and you talk about a different thing every class!
Is everyone through their first SACs for all their subjects? How did you find it?Heh, no 8). My first SAC is next Wednesday! Very nervous though! Honestly can't wait to get this term over and done with. How's everyone else going?
Oo, which SAC is it?
My first SAC(s) is on the 11 March, so less than 2 weeks. :P
Aand, I just found out today that I have two SACs on the one day. Psychology and Literature. When I found out, I was so scared and I literally zoned out for the whole period because I was so stressed. But, now I'm fine. I think it'll be fine. Hopefully! It's also good practice for the end of the year when I'll potentially have the Specialist Exam 2 and Literature on the first day. :)
Have two online assessments next week with freakin time limits. One of them is a SAC (where you have a limited amount of time to answer the question and if you don't finish it bad luck they show you the second one) and the other assessment is one of thosemay be counted towards our SS according to the Plan B or C scheme yay.Stresss, gotta de-stresss
Thats sucks that each question has a time limit!!!
I have a SAC next week also, but we are doing it in google classroom and the work has to be "turned in" at the end of each session. The teachers will also be checking edit history to make sure we are only working on it during the allocated time.
Well for the SAC I have we get like 15 minutes to check at the end, but if you think about it its really just 3-5 minutes (take into account good ol' technical issues).Thats not too bad then ahah
wait... EDIT HISTORY?? holy freakin smoke holeGotta love google docs letting other see what time things are added or removed from a document
Thats not too bad then ahah
Gotta love google docs letting other see what time things are added or removed from a document
But the 15 minutes isn't extra time though it is apart of the 40 minutes allocated. A Google Docs SAC wow!Yeah that's fair, it's all really difficult I defs think VCAA should have given schools ways of administering SAC's so schools had some idea what to do and keep it kinda consistent.

I'm hoping they have given suggestions etc. & that we just haven't seen them

What’s plan B or C scheme? Is that the GAT and year 11 results plan?
I'm so excited to get back into the normal routine and see all my friends again! Although not really excited for the first week given it's full of SACs. I'm hoping going back to school will motivate me more too. How about you Evolio?Yeah, I'm not excited for the bombardment of sacs but I am excited to finally get into the swing of things again, like you said. I thought I'd be so reluctant to go back but for motivation's sake, I'm quite excited.
Hey everyone! ;D
How are you all doing? How is everyone feeling about going back to school soon?
VCE exam timetable is out!

How's everyone feeling?
Can't believe the results are coming out on the 30th December too. This feels super real now. How is everyone else with their exam timetable? That's great that PDT is not with methods ashmi! My exam timetable is pretty good, nice and spaced out (apart from the 4 maths in a row - which was to be expected). I'm super happy that I don't have the long weekend in between the spec exams like there usually would be!
VCE exam timetable is out!Quite happy with it. No exams on the same day, I mean I have English on Tuesday, then Revs Wednesday, then the next Tuesday and Wednesday for Methods, then Texts the next Thursday. Well spread, I say.

How's everyone feeling?
Going fine thanks! You?That's good.
This year has been such a strange year 12.
That's good.I haven't really been stressed all year, but now I realise I might want to do a course that will be at the top end of my ATAR possibilities (though I think I can handle it), and so I suddenly realise I need nearly every point I can get. No pressure.
Yeah, I'm going alright. :D I thought I'd be more stressed but I'm not, which is slightly concerning.
Yeah, this year has been the weirdest. Not at all how I expected it to be. I can't even imagine how it would be without all of this happening.
Hows everyone feeling about exams coming up soon? Also I just realised what happens to this thread after we graduate.....does it just get delete :'( the 2019 one seems to be nowhere in site :-\ I am WAY ago emotional about this.

I can't believe they are so soon - this year feels like it was such a drag but went so so fast!Altho', the exams aren't 'til November, unless you're doing a language or something. It's still August, two months still!
Exams are SO soon! I'm more nervous for some subjects more than others (like English - I've literally done NO exam prep) so I really need to get a move on.
What. a. year.
How's everyone else doing? Finding online learning okay?

How has everyone been doing these holidays? Done much exam revision??
I've done a meh amount of work. Tbh I'm getting bored of my subjects lolol. I haven't done as many practise exams as I'd like but I've found that theres a big limit to what I can do in a day ah ha. I've also barelyyyyyy done english - just wrote one very bad english essay and thats it.
Hey everyone! ;D
How are you all?
According to the GAS model; I'm in the state of exhaustion :DAww no, that's terrible. I hope all your body's resources aren't depleted, so that you can smash that psych exam!! Really though, maybe you should take a lil' break and see how you go? I mean, exhaustion's not the ideal stage to be in, right now or any time for that matter.
My school is also blaming me for voting fraud (for school captaincies) so that's fun.
And how are you? :)

I'm alright; trying to make the most of my time but I feel like I'm wasting a lot of it. Also, I'm super scared for my lit exam because I feel so unprepared.
You got this, my guy! Try and remember some snazzy quotes and possible paragraph topics.Yeah, hopefully I pull through in time for the exam! I just feel like I don't have a very deep understanding of one of my texts. Ah well, there's still time.
Yeah... my body is about 0.0001cm from full depletion. Oh well, they did teach us the adverse effects on anxiety aha.
How is the rest of ur revision going? :)
I have 2 left! Chem on Monday and Software Development on Friday. I can't wait to be doneeI will also be extremely glad when we finish! Are you prepared for them?
I’m suddenly quite pumped for chemistry as I’ve finally mastered volumetric analysis with dilutions. Imagine if that’s not on the exam though.....lolGood for you! :D Is that your last exam?
I will also be extremely glad when we finish! Are you prepared for them?
Hey Victorians,Are we talking exams, or results?
When do you guys finish year 12?
Kind Regards
JerryMouse
Are we talking exams, or results?
The exam period finishes soon (is it today?). The results come out on December 30. Doubtless we are all waiting with bated breath... although we should still be breathing, it's healthier that way. ;)
What's the last day of year 12 that you have to attend school?I'm a little confused by what you mean by 'attend school'. My class had their last-day-of-school a while before exams. However, we have our graduation-type day soon, if that's what you're referring to. Although I don't know about other schools.
HSC and QCE finished last Friday and I just wanted to know what day VCE finishes.

Each schools graduation day is different and usually before exams.Oh yeah, I forgot... my class (a small one) all had their last exam last week, we were celebrating except for one language student... I felt so sorry for him....
P.S Cat in the Hat languages are still next week! The very last exam is Italian on Tuesday!
How are we all feeling post-exams and pre-ATAR? :)
Honestly, not as nervous as I thought I'd be. I'm spending most of my time catching up on things I wasn't able to do when I was too focused on studying for exams. Wbu? ;DMe too!... and trying not to think about ATAR, really - but it's been creeping into my dreams! :P
