Is Melb uni the best uni in Melbourne to study classics and archaeology
-
Melb uni is the best uni to study anything non-employable.
So, yes.
-
I'm not sure about Classics but Melbourne doesn't really offer anything in the undergrad in the name of archaeology, which is a reason a friend of mine sought elsewhere for her Bachelor of Arts.
-
Latrobe actually has archaeology. I'm less than impressed with Melbourne's classics options, especially since the arts purge began
-
Ancient world studies includes archaeology, but I'm not sure how much they have. Check the handbook.
-
Agree with what Russ said.
Latrobe is good for a lot of things that other universities don't seem to focus on much, particularly in health sciences (nursing, podiatry, etc). If Melbourne doesn't focus on your desired course enough (I have no idea about archaeology), your best bet is most likely Latrobe.

My friend's studying archaeology at latrobe (doing arts/sci), and she said you have to maintain a b+ average in order to be able to stay in the course..

Yeah that's true, my friend got told she's not allowed to major in Arch for that reason and her other choice was Art History but that's only permitted as a minor until 2012. So she either has to take a gap year, or major in History. Chose to major in History and minor in Art History in the end.
