What would help you study biology?

Hey!

People doing biology next year, and people who've done bio this year - what do you think would have been/will be useful for you?

Do you want to answer questions? Do you want to write questions?

Do you want regular practice questions throughout the year? If so, do you want multiple choice or short answer? Is there anything that would help you get a head start over the summer holidays or would you rather enjoy your last bit of freedom?

Interested to hear from anyone who has studied or will be studying bio!

BTW I want ideas for both 1/2 and 3/4 bio if you have them ;D

P.S. upload your notes/summaries/other resources here before you burn them ;) Especially if you have 1/2 resources lying around - our collection is lacking.

In my opinion, the most helpful thing this year has definitely been answering short answer questions! This is largely due to the fact that they allow you to develop your wording and expression of answers – which is something that is so crucial to doing well in biology.

A resource which I might have preferred would have been a textbook which incorporated notes i.e. the background info and concepts with practice questions. However, unlike a conventional book, the solutions would provide not only the suggested answers, but would essentially provide the thought process that would have been required to answer the question as well. On that note, we also need much more practice with the interpretation of scientific literature, graphs and data – as I believe VCE Biology is gradually moving towards this and many previous resources have little of this.

I agree.
I think that short answer questions that come with an indepth explanation of how to answer the question would be one of the best recources.

Yes, I would agree. Something like this would really help. I feel that some sort of resource that provides a clearer idea of how we are marked and what is required is the most helpful. For instance, with the study designs greater emphasis on understanding scientific literacy, a resource that provides some insight on how to understand and comprehend it better would be quite good.
PM me for Methods (raw 46) and Chemistry (raw 48) resources (notes, practice SACs, etc.)

I also offer tutoring for these subjects, units 1-4 :)
