hey guys !! could you clarify what the out of africa hypothesis is in relation to why africans do not have neanderthal dna? - is it that early hominins migrated out of africa and evolved into neanderthals and H.sapiens which interbred with each other but not with africans bc they didnt go back to africa? im so confused and exam is tmr !! )):

The out of Africa hypothesis states that homo erectus evolved into Homo sapiens in Africa, then the H sapiens left Africa and spread around the world. The ones that left interbred with neanderthals, but the ones that stayed in Africa did not interbreed with the neanderthals, so don't contain the neanderthal DNA. I hope that answers your question. :)

ohh okay, wait so did neanderthals also evolve from homo erectus and migrate and interbreed with homo sapiens?

I am not sure, but we don't need to know which species evolved into which. This is an excerpt from VCAA's frequently asked questions:

"Question: In relation to the human fossil record, do students need to know which species evolved from which?
Answer: No. Students should understand that the human fossil record has strengths and limitations as an example of a biological classification scheme; it is open to interpretation and
may change based on available evidence. New fossils are always being discovered adding to
the evidence currently available. Students are encouraged to consider open questions such as,
‘Is it possible that Homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis interbred?’

What is evidence for the out of Africa hypothesis?

Neanderthal DNA being found in all humans except Africans.

Wait so did some homo sapiens leave Africa and some stayed?

Yes, as with all migratory events.

Also, what you said earlier about H.erectus was right. H.erectus migrated from Africa first and Neanderthals evolved in Europe. Humans then went out and did the nasty with neanderthals. We know this for a number of reasons, but the absence of neanderthal DNA in Africans, but its rpesence in everyone else (the rest of the world was populated from Europe) is a strong factor.
