Using examples, explain the differences between a ‘reflex action’ and a ‘fixed action’ pattern?

Reflex: automatic, involuntary behaviour that does not require prior experience and occurs in the same way each time.
Occurs mainly in humans
eg. grasping and sucking

Fixed-action: occurs when members of a species produce an identical response to the same environmental stimuli.
This is an inborn behaviour that does not occur in higher order organisms
eg. salmon migrating upstream to spawn and bees dancing to attract mates

it is also important to mention that fixed action patterns are a complex process whereas a reflex action is quite simple. :)
