CSSA Trial 2012 - parabola question

Hi, I've come across a parabola question and I don't even know where to begin! I've looked at the answers but they're not making a whole lot of sense...
If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! I think understanding this question was the tough part; after that, it's just about slogging through the maths! See my solution below :)

I will make a suggestion here.

Obtain a copy of the preliminary copy of Maths in Focus, and go through the example (in Ch 11) on page 646. This is a proof that you must be able to replicate on the exam either through on-the-spot analysis, or off by heart.

Compare the working out to that of which Jake provided. The textbook version does it for the parabola x2=4ay, however this one is for the sideways parabola.
