I pretty much did the same as most people trying out for my school. About 8-10 people did better than my group and it just comes down to luck in the end I guess. I did well in rc and good in verbal, but maths and nr went not so good (I guessed quite a few). Do you have an estimate as to what time the results will come?

Oh yeah, true true. Do you know how exactly does the 5% rule work??
Nearly all the ppl from my school who did the exam (around 30 or more) and it’s very competitive
how many do u think they  pick in schools like mine? I’ve heard around 10 (in total) get picked to the schools and not 1 school. I’ve heard some situations like mine where they came from competitive schools and they didn’t get in.

-From what I’ve heard -
I think it all depends on how well other ppl did and how you did & there’s no standard for this exam. Superior could be like 35. Because obviously there’s around 4k people who do this exam every year and some only come with no studying, and some study for years for this exact exam.  This exam is a lot pressure but there’s so many smarter people out there that did not sit this exam, maybe because they didn’t know or don’t find the schools interesting something like that. They basically want people from only the people who sat the test. So those who get in arnt the smartest people out there (not in a shady way). But the way they pick from competitive schools are unfair and should give more chances. Tbh I think they just want variety of people from different schools.

Yeah the results will be out next week. Do you think the rejection comes out more later or?? Tbh it’s not the end of the world but my current school is so not it.This was 1 of my escape plans. It’s gonna be tough to recover from. But failure is the motivation to success, so I’ll keep going! 😀

The 5% rule means that only 5% of your year level can get into the 4 schools. This is to prevent a saturation of students from competitive schools. The side effect is that it makes it easier for those in less competitive schools to get in.

You're right. The exam scores are relative, but they also have a set passing grade, hence why not all of the 5% of your year level might get in.

Wait wdym by year level ?is it the people from the school who sat the test? Or is it the people in total in year 8 from the school. It doesn’t make make sense lol

I have a question for you. I’ve seen you replying in a few posts from awhile back lol. But do they send rejection letters along with the first round offers? And do u get a rejection letter before recieving 2nd round /3rd?

Yep. From what I heard, you get rejection before the other offers. Everyone accepted gets emails first, then the rejection emails go out, then the rounds proceed.

It's the total in yr 8, so if you have 300 kids, then 15 can get in at max (including PD now), so if 50 are trying out, then you have a 30% chance of getting in.

I self-taught (mostly from Khan Academy) for ~45 mins every weekday after school. I just read through forums (mostly ATARNotes) to find out what I needed to study and then studied them.

Congrats to all the others who got in!

Congratulations to all of you for attempting this exam. To those of you who made it, great job! To those of you who didn't make it, remember that a selective school does not change or decide your career. I know doctors who got 99+ atars from regular schools and people who went to selective schools and dropped out so don't worry. A selective school only presents opportunities that other public schools may not offer. In essence, MHS and Mac.Rob are like private schools whilst Nossal and Suzanne Cory are public schools with more opportunities and smarter cohorts. If you did not make into the school you wanted to get into or any of the selective schools, don't worry as all it means is that you have a source of motivation to do better in VCE and beyond. Also, remember that most of the people who get in tend to do nothing until mid-year 9. They stop studying and just relax so use this opportunity to get ahead and do more. Remember that selective schools don't teach year 10 content in year 9 and they usually don't allow students to pursue VCE subjects in year 10. Selective schools just select smart students and just make them complete the same level of work as another student in a different school. However, when they enter VCE, they outperform most of the state because of their study habits, work ethic, and their incentive to exceed expectations. Selective schools do not teach well, but they only challenge their students. This makes the students do more and this is what happens in VCE. So if you don't get in, push yourself to your limit and you will do just as well, if not, more than what most selective school students can achieve.

To those who made it, remember to appreciate your hard work and try researching your school so that you can know it better. Congratulations for your great achievement and try to replicate this hard work in year 11 and 12.

Finally, it does not matter whether you got into a selective school or not. Just remember that this was an experience and use it for motivation to do better in year 9 and beyond. Enjoy the holidays!  ;D

Well, I'm not an expert on anything, so my answer might not be 100% accurate (but I did get in). I can tell you stuff like which tuitions were helpful in my opinion and what I did to prepare:

Tuitions:

Tuitions was a big role in my success. I originally started off with north shore coaching college, which I originally thought to be veru accurate (as the teachers there say it is), but soon discovered that it was not very accurate. Reading comp was harder than the real exam and maths and numeric were far easier than the real deal. I continued with it just to be accustomed to the time and pressure, but also started with james an. North shore charged a huge amount though, and it was not worth it tbh (the james an face-to-face classes were the same as their online classes, which was a rip-off).

At JAC, when I started, I used to get scores in maths/nr around 50%, read was 67% an verbal 80%. In my opinion, JAC was helpful and very accurate in everything except verbal reasoning. Also, for their writing, they grade you up high for some reason - I wrote a few essays that deserved 24/30 but I got 29 somehow (not fluked) and thought that their teacher was grading me really high for some reason. Writing was, to be honest, the deciding factor and I had mixed feelings about it taken out. I was happy because if I got a hard topic/stimulus, this would not affect my results but then writing was my strongest point according to james an. After some time at james an, I started getting reasonably good results like 85% for maths, 80-85% for reading, 80% for numerical and 85% for verbal.

Three weeks before the exam, I gave 2 mock tests at hendersons. This, in my opinion, had very accurate tests for all topics (but they forced you to do the writing even though it was scrapped as part of the real test). Verbal was literally the exact same as their practice exams (just different words), but hendersons makes reader quite difficult compared to the real test. It also had pretty accurate mock exams for maths and numerical. For me, hendersons worked the best and in both mock tests I got 2 sups (watch out though, because hendersons sometimes considers the superior mark as the top 33% when its actually the top 11%, so I converted it myself as they provide a graph of how everyone did).

Real Exam (Personal Experience):

Hendersons asks people about how the real exam went and this is what I wrote in their thing:

Mathematics - This year, the mathematics component was extremely difficult and almost all students were unable to finish it. Most guessed around 20-30 questions (I guess 20) and the questions were of a high calibre, as well as hard to complete in timed questions due to their working out required.
The 4 starting questions were all about basic numerology, decimal/fraction addition/subtraction/multiplication/division, but from then the exams became much harder. There were a couple of questions on probability, 2 different graphs to interpret (about 3 questions each) and two angle questions as well as a circle geometry question(which were all quite hard). Hendersons should make their maths harder by adding more formula-based questions and making it harder it general (by putting more difficult numbers to work with - the maths questions require plenty of working and by Q30 I think I had already finished my piece of working out paper).

Numerical Reasoning - As with mathematics, the NR component was very difficult, though slightly easier than the maths. The questions were very lengthy, and on the first page itself, complex word problems were given (which could be solved, given a minute per question, but were hard to do within 36 seconds). People guessed about 20-25 and it was difficult to read, understand and work out all those questions within the time limit. Hendersons should make their NR more challenging for future students by adding more word problems.
Some questions I remember were about the different routes to travel, some complex word problems about permutations/combinations (and also there were little to no number patterns which surprised me), data interpretation, and general word problems about age, SDT, volume/SA, geometry and more.

Verbal Reasoning - One thing that stood out was that verbal reasoning questions were very similar to henderson's exams. Most kids would have gotten about 40-45/60 in verbal reasoning, but then still had to guess about 5-10. The level of difficulty for me was a little under moderate.
Some question types were to use options and find out whether the two base words make a real compound word, syllogisms, a slightly time-consuming question about seating arrangements (if x sits next to y and y sits opposite to z etc), finding two statements which prove that, 2 questions on letter patterns, 3-4 questions on find a hidden word that continues on from two words, which word best suits both these categories (for categories like "shout" and "wood", bark would be the answer) and a few more questions. There were little anagrams, no family tree questions, little foreign language questions and no shape logic.

Reading Comprehension - The first thing to note is that reading comp was quite easy, though Hendersons makes it quite difficult (it should be made easier). The questions directed you to the line number and the passages were not too lengthy (only one ¾ page passage was there at the end).
There were 2 poems (about 10 lines and 6 lines), an informative text about ethos, pathos and logos, two cartoons - one about how trees would be planted everywhere if they had wifi and one about globalisation and how humans consume too many resources for our population. There was not much about grammar (I think 3-4), but in general RC was easy, Most people would have attained a score of around 38-42/50.

Basic Info/Summary:

Not many people did well in the maths components (guessed around half), but most did pretty good in the english components.
There is no working out paper, aside from the back of the answer sheet.
The answer sheet was split up into columns of 15 and went till 60.
The papers were different colours:
VR - Yellow
NR - Green
RC - Pink
Math - White (2020’s colour was blue according to another user)
A superior is the top 11%, and the next 12% gets an above average, then the next 17% gets a high average, then the next 20% gets an average, then the next 17% gets a below average and the last 23% gets the lowest score (not sure what it is called). This is according to James an.
I think the test will be easier next year though, so don't worry too much about it and don't study too much at the start because it becomes really boring towards the end and when the exam is close.

I hope everyone who is doing the selective exams of Victoria finds this useful and best of luck to you all!

BTW Ock, what school did you choose, MHS?

OMG OMG
Congrats  to anyone that got in first round!! U deserved it for sure!!

I didn’t even know until 9am until one of my friends who sat the exam (from my class ) had told me lol. So many people from my school got in, So MANY ACCELERATED PROGRAM KIDS GOT IN!! Am I mad no? Did I see it coming ? Yesss. and only 1 mainstream got in. Some people were crying like literal mental breakdowns, bc they didn’t make it in.  I didn’t but I was feeling down when I heard the other kids getting in. If u didn’t read what I’ve previously said but basically around 30 ppl from my school sat the test and half of them were fromAccelerated program and it was so unfair for us mainstreams students to compete. around 6 got in and 1 mainstream got in. A few of them got into macrob and Suzanne most popular was macrob. Idk about Mhs tho.
I’m abit disappointed, I havnt even checked my emails. Bc my parents didn’t say anything about an email. I just feel betrayed and disappointed in myself tbh. I havnt even told them ugh. They gonna just be comparing me and saying “ oh why couldn’t u be like them” or “why couldn’t u make us proud “
THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS AFRAID OF. I tried my best and did so well and got an average of 40/ 60 in most practice tests I’ve done.It jus makes me sad to know it wasn’t meant to be. I’m literally sick and tired of this exam, it has brang sm pressure and stress and mental health hasn’t even been good bc of it.
But well done to everyone who sat this exam ur most definitely are smarter than an average year 8, Good luck for year 9 everyone (who got in or didn’t!)
wishing you all the best for next year !!
However plot twist u are supposed to get rejected in order get a 2nd round apparently idk

Damn we on the same boat, I feel you. I relied on this exam so much. Unfortunately I didn’t get in first round.it was literally just heartbreaking  But your right. All the comparing is gonna get to my head too.they always make it look like you’re not good enough. But I hope your okay though now. 8.101 wishing  you the best too and thankyou for starting this conversation.

I didn't get through in first round.
How many people get selected in second and third round.

is first round a cut off list
or more like all selected people got invite and now if they reject then some one will get it in round 2

I think in the first round they send an E-mail to everyone and then in the second round, the students who got rejected will maybe get an acceptance letter. I feel you guys, I feel everyone who didn't get in. I had the pressure since I was in grade 5 and I studied for almost 2 years by myself and didn't get in. Ik it feels like all your hard work didn't pay off and you might just feel dumb but trust me..you're not. Ik it's heartbreaking (I almost cried when I saw my result lol) but remember that there are many students like you who gave this test their all but still did not pass. And about the comparing...where do I start. Maybe just ignore everyone who compares you..remember that you did the best you could.

Yeah tru tru, tysm for sharing that. Nobody has rlly written how they feel in depth.I mean I kinda saw this coming, I remember at the exam and walking into the seating arrangement and seeing 3 rows (there was like 10 people in each row ) of all the people from my school. I was jus like “what’s the point anyways there’s wayy too much competition ?”broo how am I supposed to do well”
I suggest to not go to an competitive school tbh.
What I’ve learnt is, maybe I should’ve put more effort and spent more time focusing on what’s important. I regret things but everything happens for I guess.
Also is the yr 10 entry’s curriculum the same or does it change? What do I need to learn to prepare for it if anyone knows let me know please!

Yeah, it was verry pressuring and had negative mental health. For everyone who unfortunately missed a spot, good luck in the future and in any other exams you take. I was in the "noisy fridge" building with like 50 people from my school, so my hopes were also a little down. My school has SEAL and all of them got in except for one or two, and I as well as 2 or 3 more were the only people do get in outside of SEAL. I came to melb only 7 months ago with the exam in less than 2 months and I was so freaked out about it and then it kept on getting postponed and the pressure mounted on me. In my old school I failed a selective exam but thats because I cam late and did the one in yr 7 where only like 4 out of 100 kids are selected. In my opinion, competitive school or non-competitive school does not really matter. If you only just make it in from a trash school, you will have a hard time coping with MHS or whatever school's standards. My school is quite competitive and there is only one smart group (the 20 or so seal kids) and all other people are nearly as smart, so it's a wonder I got in. My friend guessed literally the exact same amount of questions as me in all 4 exams and even guessed less than me in maths/nr, yet I got in and he didn't. For this year, it came down to luck based on your guesses. Study all you can for maths, try for other schools and be positive and think that you'll get a second offer. It is surprising to see the amount of people that decline the offer based on school preference, travel, cost and more. Don't lose hope yet, there may be more chance in this exam for all the people who didn't make it, and there certainly will be more chances in other schools.

Can't wait to find out my actual scores for each test and how many superiors I got. My guess is 2 sups in rc and vr because those were the only ones I did good in. Also interested to find out the superior mark for this year (something like 30/60 lol). I think you have to get at least 2 to get into a selective school idk. My yr 8 cohort size was 335, so a total of 17 could get in out of the 47 who tried out.

This years test was much much harder, at least twice the difficulty of the victorian practice tests(not trying to put pressure though, remember to keep really calm during the exam and do NOT mess up) If u put in the work, I'm sure u'll get in so good luck for next year :)

Hi ALL
Congrats

How you guys compare the practice tests from selective school website with actual test ???

Umm actually Henderson practice tests were very very similar to the actual tests. Ive never even looked at those tests on selective website since all i ever hear is people saying its nothing like test. The numerical, verbal reasoning and maths had pretty much the same sorts of questions in the Hendersons mock exams.
'my personal experience with hendersons
-Storytime-
All though people say Hendersons is good, personally ive had bad experiences with them. And few of other people ive known has too. I do not recommend it as they rush the teaching, and some specifically the english teachers. They go out of topic and start chit chatting about their person life. They leave out so much work that was supposed to be done within the 3hrs of class. One lesson costs about $300. Its not worth it as I have personally felt attacked and targeted by this specific white teacher. She was definitely racist.
How? ok so at the end of the lesson there's like a parents meeting for like 5-10 mins, (btw this was online class *zoom*) basically the parents discuss the progress and what we've done today in class. AND i remember when my parents couldnt join the meeting bc they were busy working, however my mum was there but i just didnt turn on the camera bc it wasnt that important as we were only just listening. and the all others' parents' were there.  Anyways basically the teacher was like "oh where is (my name) their parents probably dont know english thats why their arnt in the meeting,( coz she couldnt see me lol.)LIKE HOW TF CAN SHE MAKE AN ASSUMPTION LIKE THAT WHEN MY PARENTS LITERALLY PAYED SM FOR THE WORKSHOP AND SHE PROLLY EARNS SALARY FROM THAT LMAO IDK WHY SHE HAD TO BE BITTER TOWARDS POC. After that i literally left the meeting offended and angry of what she said. I had that specific teacher for persuasive writing and reading comprehension. I genuinely didnt like her attiude and i shouldv'e sent out a complaint  to Hendersons about this situation. She was just targeting me in specific and jus being stereotypical  Coz what she said was genuinely racist and i remember the other parents were all watching and i was so offended and my mum was there too. I wish i had deeped the situation and actually done something about it instead of being unbothered. My parents said they wouldve told Hendersons if they knew earlier,.The teacher couldve lost her job. I cant give much detail on who she is, but i will say that she was old and a white teacher and she teaches English in the work shop area. So look out for her i guess. but overall i suggest the mock exams instead of the work shops. The maths/numerical teachers are nice and pretty chill tbh. They use their time wisely. Some english teachers were fun to work with as some were not for this generation and stereotypical. It just depends but thats from my personal experience. Its really ur effort that counts in the end.

Henderson’s is only worth it for their mock exams, and it is worth purchasing  one or two before the actual test. Aside from this, don’t do many of their other workshops or classes  because, as 8.101 said, they tend to go off topic and the price is way too expensive anyways. Yes, this years test was much harder in the maths exams than possibly any year before, but try not to be put under too much pressure and just focus on your own work in the real test. Personally, this year, I guessed around 20 in numerical, 25 in maths, 3 in reading and 5 in verbal. The practice tests on the DET website are nothing like the real test in regards in maths or numerical, but I suppose reading is somewhat accurate in terms of difficulty.

Nice! I'm a train ride from both.

My school is stupidly competitive, so the fact that I got in means 3+ sups, although I feel like I'd maybe get one or 2 for the english ones. I died in both of the maths exams.

So, what do you expect from the future selective school students with this amended entrance test? Did they change it to a single writing piece last year or the year prior? Was it also online in 2020 as it was this year? Also, how did you guys perform the examination on the computer (cameras?)?

I go to MHS and a lot of people in the school are skeptical of next year's Year 9 cohort due to the changes, I guess we'll see next year. You don't have the end-of-year "transition" day like we did I'd assume. Not sure what to think about the lack of writing, but when I did it I got superior on everything but the writing pieces - my English was certainly not the best back then. What was the maths content? I remember finishing that one the earliest whereas the 15 min writing pieces were the hardest to keep up with. Congrats to everyone that got in, not sure which of you are going here.

Yeah the test was at Melbourne Showgrounds and different people went on 2 different days sat and sun , and there was like 2 buildings  . We sat in schools so basically it was in alphabetical order(last names)with all the people from your school. There was 4 times. So some went at 9am well as the others sat the exam at 2:30pm.They give you a paper (that u had to print out at home ) and you gotta find your desk ( the number that was given to you)

It says in the rejection E-mail that all offers will be given before 17 December and none after that. We will be notified on 17 December if we do not receive a 2nd or 3rd round offer. Someone said on this board before that 2nd round offers come out on 14 Dec and 3rd round on 16 Dec.

Apparently this year many people didnt get an offer for 2 schools at once. So i think the possibility is low for a 2nd round or 3rd since they prlly accepted whatever offer they got into... Im so sorry for saying that omds. A miracle could happen tho. IF u know with confidence that you shouldve gotten in 1st round maybe u might get the 2nd round. They try to do it fairly, basically who ever got the nearest to the last person who got 1st round, u gotta be nearby to that certain score, it all comes to down to luck and the schools u applied for. Obviously the chances are low if theirs like a few spots left. But im wishing you guys all the best!  They might send emails out to different people at diff times, i got my rejection letter after 12:40pm, and one of my friends got it the 2nd day so idk how the email system works tbh. Hopefully u get in! And again congrats to those who got in!

no no i meant like 1st round rejection. coz they were sent at different times for some ppl.
If you dont receive anything from now to the 17th of December, your fully rejected, it says it on the rejection letter that like its an extra thing u might get or not.

omg same i lost hope too. but its reaching a point where i dont care anymore, whatever is waiting for me, is waiting for me. Might try out for JMS next yr but ion know if its worth it. I have to learn another new subject which is science and the interview process seems like too much. They check reports from end of semester 2 (year 8 ) and til semester 1 (yr 9). i'll have to keep my grades up. And the test difficulty might get higher. And u have make it thru top 5-10 for the yr 10 entry selective entry for MGHS MHS SCHS & NHS .and some people get rejected with getting 2 sup .Its SO MUCH EFFORT BUT IDK I WILL DO IT JUST COZ I HAVE HOPE. I feel bad even my dad's voice was low today

Essentially 5% rule applies in all rounds. which means I will only get offer if some one rejects offer from my school …

I don't think any one from my school will reject NHS offer as MHS is more than 1 hour travel

The number of people selected this year at my school was so less! Last year they took almost 30, but this year they only took 12-15 and it was all the seal kids who got in. The school I go to is quite competitive but there are still schools like GWSC which are very competitive. I might try out for jmss next year but tbh I don't really want to go to a science school which restricts certain subjects.

Has anyone received a 3rd round offer yet?
The chances are very low. , I mean it’s still 10am but I know ppl who are smarter than me that DIDNT get in so… I doubt it. Kinda unfair what they did but maybe it’s not good enough for those schools. I only applied for SCHS bc I would have more of a chance but there was too much competition as they only took like 5 ppl from my school and nobody declined it either but som ppl wernt happy and regretted their decision coz they wanted to go to MHS or MGHS but they jus picked whatever they got lol. But it’s so hard seeing nearly all ur friends getting in & ur just there-

To all of you guys who didn't make it, don't lose hope. We're made to believe that selective schools are schools which guarantee a bright future when in reality, they do not. I know how it feels to fail this test and I know that some of you guys studied for ages but still failed but what can you do now? Yeah, every 2 minutes you might think about how much you studied, how you were on the day of the exam, how you hoped you would get in, how you imagined yourself going to that school, but there is truly no point in pondering about this test. It's over. Forget it. Literally forget it. It's one random exam and maybe if you did the exam three days later, you might have learnt a maths concept which you could have used in those really hard questions and that might have been the difference between you making it, and someone else getting into a school. Don't brood over this exam and focus on the future. Create a plan for year 9. Make new goals and work hard. The more you think of this, the worse you feel and trust me if you keep thinking about how you failed in this exam, you will underachieve in VCE. There is a domino effect which makes you think that you can't do well and remember doing well means your best- NOT Someone else's best. So forget this exam as it doesn't directly affect your future and work on the future. Always remember for every minute you feel sad, you lose 60 seconds of happiness.

To those of you who made it, forget the exam. It's done. You passed. Who cares? Move on if you haven't and go concentrate on setting newer goals for yourselves.

Thanks for encouragement.

As days passes by we will be alright and accept the fact that we couldn't make it .. but at the same time feel bit annoyed with 5% CAP from each school which knocks off chance in a competitive school.

I was preparing for this for 2 years and now it feels everything has come to a sudden stop.

What do you guys expect from a selective school and which one did you want to get into? I'm certain private schools are much better - the standards are certainly high there (see results from MGS and Scotch scholarship boys). The longer I've been at a selective school the more I regret the decision to go, especially after enduring two years of a watered-down school experience. I've had less opportunities for VCE and early university due to my attendance at a selective school in addition to having less free time (travel and work requirements) which I spent my 7th and 8th grade reading, coding and problem-solving. Don't feel like you've lost touch for not making it in, I think after seeing only a single 3/4 in my results I have become depressed by the idea of doing 5 subjects next year knowing that I would only need to do three or four at my prior school.

I applied for SCHS which is close to my current school. It’s like 10 minutes away from my house. And 7 minutes ish from my current school. I live on the west side so macrob would’ve been mentally draining and tiring coming home everyday at around 5pm 5 days a week. And it would be tiring for my parents if they take me home everyday and to school. I didn’t make it in but I’m kinda glad I didn’t. Apparently some ppl just fall behind and drop out those schools when they don’t teach properly. But idk I guess those schools have better opportunities like travelling to countries. I’ve seen SCHS have been to like NYC,Greece,China and a few other countries in Asia before as like camp/ subject excursion.
It all seems fun and many schools don’t have those opportunities i guess, but that’s the 1 of the few things I might be missing out on, as well as music (piano lol) but it’s all good.

But yeah you’re right.

I go to MHS so I can't say anything about the other schools. The reason I'm posting here is because I remember stressing out before the exam in 8th grade after studying so much (not sure if my hours of study were worth it, it's best to think about current life than consider hypothetical that can't be). I can say that there are certain things here that are great, such as the sports, extracurriculars, music and the environment - one of my main reasons was oddly the proximity to the city since I would only visit one every year or two before making it in.

Also I can confirm that people do "burn out" after making it in. I've found that the Year 10 entrants (where extracurriculars such as sport and music have a large priority) have sometimes greatly outperformed the Year 9 entrants which is really interesting. I remember the attitude in Year 9 MHS was incredibly "chill", as if students' major goal of making it into the school was over and the two junior years were a time to relax.

And to those who complain about the cap on students, I can attest that this is a horrible system and it surely undermines the meritocratic testing system to get into the schools. Most of my friends who didn't get in either stayed at my old school in the accelerated class or went to John Monash Science School (JMSS). I can see that there are some schools by my peers that the schools they came from are correlated to their effort in school and their results. Additionally, I know some of my friends that are with me now who I knew at my prior school only performed slightly better on the exam but may potentially not be as "deserving" (whatever that may imply) of taking the position "from" another student. They might change the 5% cap some day.

If you go to a selective school, how you feel there depends on you. If you can get tired after staying in one spot on a train, then that's a you problem that only you can fix, not the school or PTV. If you can't balance your time to do certain things, that is something you can fix not the school. Every school gives work, that's a fact everyone knows. The only difference is that you were in year 8 at your previous school where the workload is tons less than years 9 and 10. The way I judge a school and the way you judge a school are very different. However, if you try to be more open, you might realise that it's not the school's fault for trying to challenge you and make you the best you can be.

I can certainly agree with that, I spent much of the time outside of school on extracurriculars (if you get into a selective school you will have many of such opportunities) that ran on every weekday and many weekends along with my holidays. Of course it was a choice of mine. Also note that you can't do MM3/4 in Year 11 without "exceptional" performance unlike other schools where it's open to at least the accelerated classes. You can only do a single 3/4 in Y11 as well. You have to weigh the positives and negatives. Anyways, I was targeting those who felt down about not making it in to a selective school - and I for-one wouldn't mind if I never went to one.

Maybe instead of screenshots (cause they can have your names and ig there's no point in editing them) post them if you're comfortable and if you don't want to, maybe mention if you were happy with what you got or not. This exam isn't accurate so don't feel disappointed if you get something below your expectations  :).

Maths      -    Superior
Reading  -     Superior
Verbal     -     Above Average
Numerical  -  High Average
This is my result from a competitive school in the east. Did not get into any school.
Disappointed.
Wondering if this result is enough to get a seat from a non-competitive school that does not hit its 5 % quota limit.
any thoughts ,, just curious.

I completely agree with this. You guys worry about your scores waaaaaaaaayy too much. I was the same when I got my results but after a few months, you'll get over it and forget it as well. Use this test as a learning experience as it shows where you are compared to others in your year level. If you're in the lower or average end, aim for improvement and work hard so that you can do equally if not, better than your selective school peers.

I did not get selected in any of the rounds.

This is my result from only studying 2 weeks before the exam (because of procrastination) and going in basically clueless in Maths and Numerical Reasoning - and I'm also attending a competitive school in the east.

VR = Superior
RC = Superior
NR = Above Average
M = Above Average

I'm pretty disappointed knowing I could've gotten selected if I didn't procrastinate and worked hard, especially in Maths.
Oh well, guess we go again for JMSS next year. :)

Yeah me too, after the exam I felt down for a couple of days (thinking that I had performed bad and everyone else a higher standard than me), but somehow I got a great score. My parents specifically bought a house near NHS and hopefully I would get in, otherwise I would have to go to some average school. Well, I'm not an expert on anything, so my answer might not be 100% accurate (but I did get in). I can tell you stuff like which tuitions were helpful in my opinion and what I did to prepare:

Real Exam (Personal Experience):

Hendersons asks people about how the real exam went and this is what I wrote in their thing:

Mathematics - This year, the mathematics component was extremely difficult and almost all students were unable to finish it. Most guessed around 20-30 questions (I guess 20) and the questions were of a high calibre, as well as hard to complete in timed questions due to their working out required.
The 4 starting questions were all about basic numerology numbers, decimal/fraction addition/subtraction/multiplication/division, but from then the exams became much harder.

Thanks sir
