I am currently rank 1 in a very weak cohort

- most of the class gets SAC scores less than 50%
- while the top 5 get scores of 90%+ with only one or two marks difference

If I were to get a poor mark for my 10 mark (out of 100 for Unit 3) sac and lose rank 1, will I still be affected by my cohort's performance on the end-of-year exam?

I fear that most of my class won't even be able to reach a B on the exam (they've given up already :(...).

I am currently at 60/65 for unit 3 LS. I predict my U3 score will be 67/75 when I get my results back.

Is it possible for me to get 40 raw ss even if I drop down to rank 2 or 3?

Extremely possible. Rank 2 could score very many points above Rank 1.

very very very possible, happened to me because Rank 2 probably got a few extra marks in the exam (our SS differed by 1 point)

Yes definitely, a girl in my HHD class was rank 1 for SACs but after the exam she ended up as rank 2 because someone lower than her (don't know what rank) did better in the HHD exam.
Rank 1 got a 40, girl who was a lower rank but did better in the exam got a 44.

So basically, yes, 100% possible. If you bomb out on the exam and the lower ranks do better, they'll get higher study scores than you.

Ranking is only really relevant to your SAC scores...your exam scores are independent of all that. So if you beat rank 1 by 10%...then your exam score is 10% better.
Thus your combined SAC and exam scores can easily contribute to a better study score.

Oh my, are you serious???? So I guess it really is the exam score that determines your SS and Rank???

Your SAC performance determines your rank - but the exam is important. :)

Definitely, when I was in Year 11 I did HHD 3+4. I was ranked #1 before the exam but ended up with the third-best study score.

Fair to say I learnt a lot from that exam!! :)

Yes, they can get a slightly higher SS if they do better on the final exam compared to you. Happened to me in English - number 1 out of the top 3 ranked students (we all had quite close averages in terms of sacs). I didn't do as well as I was predicted to (nerves, poor time allocation, mind blanks) and ended up with a 39 SS whereas the other two students ranked after me in SACs ended up with 42. Have no idea how ranking/SS/Sac averages work (it's a complicated science in itself if you ask me :P ) but this was my experience!

I do have a BIG concern (also makes me very ANGRYYY  >:( >:( >:()
So I do text and traditions and my first SAC"S were 70, 73 and 80. I Know 4 people are above me so I am rank 5, however I am supposed to be rank 4 because rank 4 (the one that stole my spot!!) cheated in both of his SAC"s and got an undeserved higher mark than me!!!!!

Out of curiosity (and anger!), If I get A+'s on my exam, will my SAC marks go up and would it by still possible to achieve a SS of 43??????

Thank-you (from a very angry and pissed off year 12 student)

P.s They class has 9 students and I'd say only 3 of them actually care about what they get as a SS ( It really pisses me off because I know they will stuff their exam out of carelessness and it'll effect me because I am a lower rank!!!) :'( :'( :-[ >:( >:(

Hey,

Sorry to hear about this situation. If you're comfortable with it, I'd recommend bringing this part up with a teacher - that doesn't sound fair for anybody. :)

TBH, I already talked to my TT teacher and he didn't do anything about it!!! And know he just lets it go (the guy did it again for SAC 3!!!) Even my coordinator didn't take it seriously??? Whats going on? If only VCAA could take this into account when he does his exams!!

Have you considered actually trying to contact VCAA and bring it up? I'm not sure how feasible an option it is but, gee - it sounds pretty shit, your teachers not following up on cheating.
