JMSS Entrance Exam.... What do I need to know?

Hey all,
I'm in yr 9 and going to go for the JMSS entrance exam in June. I desperately want to get into JMSS.
This post is mainly aimed to those who have already passed the scholarship exam.
What kinds of stuff do I need to know? I've done past entrance exams, so I know the whole set up and stuff, but apparently JMSS is a little different and I'm more concerned about the science part. Is there stuff from Yr 10 science that's gonna be on the exam? Would studying the whole yr 9 science textbook help - do I need to know all of it?

And I'm particularly scared about the essays... What kind of essays are there cause I have no idea what to expect. From what I know, there's a prac report and an analytical essay..? Correct me if I'm wrong. Please, what are they like? Or if it's possible give me an example of what one of the topics were?

Also, many people have said to me that the interview is probably the most important part. What. Do. I. Need. To. Know  :'( :'( :o Does it last long? Do I need to have significantly high grades to get in or do I just have to have a passion for science?

... And yeah. Please help! I would be eternally grateful... And thanks :))))

Hey, just thought it might be worth having a read of Hannibal's guide..
I've posted this before but it's been buried so hopefully his will help. You don't have to study all of this, in fact only 10% of it will probably end up being examined, but it's worth having that peace of mind.

For maths:

- Angles
- Pythagoras
- Trigonometry (SOHCAHTOA)
- Linear Algebra
- Simultaneous Equations
- Linear Relations (Sketching, understanding the different properties)
- Measurement (Surface Area, Volume, Conversion, Area, Perimeter)
- Indices Law
- Surds
- Geometry (Basics behind Congruence, Similarity and Bearings)
- Factorising and Expanding (Make sure you can do these fast)
- Parabolas (Sketching and Properties)
- Quadratic Equations (Nulls Law will be useful)
- Probability (Optional but may save a few seconds in the test if you understand how a certain chart works)

For science:

Chemistry:
Atoms
Chemical Bonds
Chemical Reactions
Nuclear Decay
Radiation
Periodic Table
Reaction Rates
Matter

Physics:
Thermodynamics
Energy
Light
Waves
Sound
Forces
Friction
Motion
Heat
Mechanics
Space
Electricity
Magnetism

Biology:
Animal Cells
Plant Cells
Five Senses
Digestive System
Circulatory System
Nervous System
Muscular System
Endocrine System
Evolution
Classification
Plants
Photosynthesis
Respiration
Enzymes
Genetics

Good luck :)
Also read through the 2015 JMSS Testing thread and perhaps look around the selective schools board if you've got time. Personally I'd recommend MathFights if you want to sharpen your maths/problem solving skills.
Try and get a hold of as many practice tests as possible as well.
Good luck!! :):)
P.S. try and find someone, whether it be a parent, some other adult or a friend to give you some interview like questions on the spot.

Very nice list btw, but I think you would be better off covering the basic year nine science course and possibly the year 10 one. I did Chem 1&2 for fun lol ;)

Practice tests...VERY helpful, just make sure you do the right ones.

If your in the accelerated program at your current school, this would help ALOT, as you cover alot of the stuff which will be on the test. I found alot of stuff that I learned in class was on the test.

Just remember, even if you past the test, you have the interview stage to go...

GOOD LUCK!

Hello everyone!
I am currently a Year 9 student and would love to get some insight on the JMSS test. Firstly, I found this thing called Hannibal's Guide. It had multiple which were needed to know for the test but I would love to know if each and everyone is a must-know for the test. Also where could you get practice tests from?
