I don’t really understand question 4 of the 2016 vcaa short answer, I think I’m getting confused between the terms “suspension of the mitochondria” and “suspension of the cytosol” ??

Basically it is testing your knowledge of the location of cellular respiration.
Cytosol - Location of glycolysis
Mitochondria - Location of krebs cycle and electron transport chain.
If glucose is added ATP will only be produced if cytosol is present. -It must be broken down into pyruvate for mitochodria to use it.
If pyruvate is added ATP will only be produced if mitochondria is present.

Does that make sense?

When it is referring to a 'suspension' it does not mean that it is stopping it from working. A suspension in this sense is when both mitochondria and cytosol are present in a sort of mix. The mitochondria is being suspended within the cytosol just as an egg will be suspended in water. Both are fully functioning.

Yeah I get it now! I was under the assumption that a “suspended” mitochondria was one that stopped working. Thankyou everyone!
I’ve done around 8-10 practice exams but still not feeling confident at all haha

Also I'd like to reiterate the importance of understanding and knowing the answers to the sample exam.
My brother did the psych exam today and he mentioned that some of the questions were similar to the sample exam. Also, I checked the sample exam for english and the two prompts for Medea were centred around the same topics.
