Another thing ... if you pick chemistry, unit 3 area of study two will have some biology in it. :P

I wouldn't worry if you're not quite sure yet, you've got plenty of time to decide.
Just don't base your choice purely on scaling of a subject, decide which subject you enjoy the most and ones which you will require for university admission. I'd consult your career's/ VCE advisor, and look extensively through the study designs to help you come to a conclusion. You'll also have a better idea when you get your mid-year/ end of year results.

In my personal opinion, I'd do biology, as it is an extremely interesting subject. Aquired knowledge in biology is great to have. But I'm completely biased. (biology is my favourite subject...)
My boyfriend did biology, chemistry and chinese, and he said he enjoyed Chinese the most as he has a passion for languages and had been learning it since prep (he got a 47 before scaling). If you are highly ambitious and work your butt off, you will do well in Chinese. Chemistry is a good subject if you are  interested in it, otherwise it is hellishly boring.

oh noez~ the other way round!!!

it all depends on personal preference :P

I <3 chemistry, but i hate biology and language in general :P
chemistry is sooo applicable and allowed me to understand simple everyday phenomena, it is just really interesting..
until we move into biochemistry and then i just lose interest ..... =\

I did all three subjects (actually am doing chem now but did bio and Chinese SL before) and I think Biology ranks far higher above the other 2 subjects in terms of enjoyment and interesting-ness :P

But of course, enjoyment is inversely proportionate to scaling, so maybe choose Chem?  It's the middle ground, you enjoy it enough and it scales well enough.  It's a prerequisite (you MIGHT change your mind lol) so I dunno, cover all bases?

After that I think Chinese (the scaling is so worth it, I swear, and you sound good at it) and then Bio.

I don't think I'm fit to give advice at 12midnight, but that's my two cents!

...enjoyment is inversely proportionate to scaling...

The subject with the highest amount of enjoyment, of course, is specialist maths. Incidentally, it is scaled by a lot. This is also backed up by the next most enjoying subjects being methods, physics etc. At the other end of the spectrum you have the unenjoyable subjects like english and accounting, which either don't scale much, or scale downwards. I rest my case.

That said, chemistry looks like it would suit you best.

Pity u cant do both bio and chemistry they tie in nicely together. If your looking to pick up go bio its a girl dominated subject in most coed schools ;P

Specialist Maths? Methods? Physics? AHHHHHHH!
Kill me now. Please.
The most enjoyable subject is Renaissance and it scales up 4 (wooh).

However, you're choosing between Chemistry (yuck), Chinese (very, very hard) and Biology (sounds okay). My advice is to..... reread jess3254's post and follow it to death, as it is awesome advice. Um... yeh.
Biology looks to be the easiest, and therefore if you work your butt off you can do really well in it. The others you would have to do more than work your butt off to do well in (like be a freakish genius).

Silly argument here:

For some people, the subjects that scale up are the easiest
For some people, they are the hardest
No point going OMG CHEM IS HARDER THAN BIOL. In my opinion biology is 100x harder because you have to remember it all. Food chem was so bad, didn't understand any of it and just rote learnt the unit, and I took up so much of my teachers time about it :D

So in conclusion, enjoyment = k*scaling, because I can't be bothered finding the alpha symbol.

i dont think enjoyment and scaling have much in common at all :P i had friends who loved food-tech last year and got a 49, but the scaling in that subject is pretty terrible. (and there are many for and against cases)

it all depends on who the person is. in my opinion, dcc is one of those freak maths/physics supersaiyan person, he'll enjoy the analytical and abstract chemistry a lot more than memorising concepts in biology (yes, a bit exaggerated, but you know what I mean).

and :P caramel, lucky you arent doing it this year, freakin DNA and proteomics and all that biology crap is in it.... *HATE*
it is extraordinarily stupid to abandon our atoms and deal with ATGC and mRNA and protein production and all that~

Theres too many biologists and not many bio chemists =( That's the reason we have to suffer through the DNA stuff :(

I do both Bio and Chem. Really enjoying Chem at the moment with all the DNA stuff, as it's tying in perfectly as a review of AOS 1 for Bio whilst extending previous knowledge on the stuff.
