Hi team, here are an initial set of suggested solutions.

if you see any errors, please log them here and I'll update later: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1obtfeRDsR24BwZWFKqc_kb5o9WnoqsvD4jZPfAiVGBs/edit?usp=sharing

If you're a current methods 2020 student, perhaps wait till after tomorrow's paper before looking, but whatever works best for you.

updated: 5a and 6c updated based on feedback. thanks!
6b - coordinates need to be labelled - I'll update this later

what did ppl get for the value of k to have the shortest distance from point P to f(x-k)?

f(x) in this question was a positive quadratic with a minimum greater than 0. P is (1,0). The y-value needs to be as close to zero as possible, which occurs at the minimum. Therefore the minimum needs to be at x=1. In f(x) the minimum is at -3/2 and we're translating k to the right. Hence k must be 5/2 because 1 - - 3/2 = 5/2. I see someone else already beat me to posting the answer but hopefully this helps anyway haha.

I think I did alright, except I wasn't able to figure out the required forms for the double area and binomial questions ;-;

It was good on time. It's just sad because I think I'll do reasonably high but not extremely high, and I've been very consistent in that range (might scrape by with a 40 or so, unless I'm completely deluding myself).

(Based off of the solutions posted above) I managed to get every question except for the double area question.
I have to say though, it was a pretty tough exam; much harder than any of the past (VCAA) exams I have done.

How are we thinking the cohort will perform on this exam compared to past exams?

If it makes anyone feel better I got about 2 marks out of 40 right. Whoever needed to hear that, you're welcome.

If it is the exact value you should be fine. E.g. if the answer is 1/10 and you say 0.10 it is fine. However, if the answer is 1/3 and you write 0.33 it is wrong.

I reckon the cut off might be lower than last year's which is already pretty low lol

gon 2 cri.

the entire exam was a curveball. i did the 2016, 2019 and 2018 with no major issues. but this exam was something else. i think it may have to do with the fact that i didn't account for timing, so essentially all questions were answered half-answered despite knowing i would've been able to do everything fine but i really overestimated how much time 1 hour would be. super frustrated. was hoping for a raw 40 but at this point, anything over a 36 will do.
