Free Head Start Lectures: Our Gift to You.

Well, by now, I'm sure a whole lot of you have been redirected to the announcement of our free lecture series , or noticed the banners with our logo on it saying "FREE VCE LECTURES".

The good news is, it isn't a joke.

The bad news is, it didn't happen sooner.

Some explanation:

Well, head start lectures have been around for a while, and some have even been known to go for $147 a ticket , which we think could be out of range for a lot of VCE students. $147 is a lot of money. That kind of money could buy you nearly 7kg of Skittles. And if you want to go to a head start lecture, one for mid-year, and one for exam revision... we're starting to talk some serious money. Not everyone can afford that, and there'd be some kids asking their parents to buy those tickets as a Christmas present so they don't feel guilty asking for that much money *coughNedNerbin2012cough*.

So instead of making students ask for lectures as a Christmas present, we figured; why not give them lectures as a Christmas present?

So that's what we've done.

I know a lot of you might be thinking - "Is this one of those annoying 'study skills' sessions where I waste my time for someone to tell me what I already knew?" - and the answer is a resounding no. This is a lecture series designed to teach you Year 12 content before you start school, so by the time you hit your SACs, you've been exposed to the material at least twice, and by the time you get to your exam, you're more prepared that a toddler armed with Crayola.

How does it work?

Well, we pick great lecturers to make great lectures, you pick which great lecture you want to go to, you register, you print off the ticket, and you bring it with you on the day. Done. That's all there is to it.

What are the subjects, who are the lecturers?

The subjects we're launching the first series with are: Biology, Business, Chemistry, English, Health, Methods, Physics, Spesh.

Your lecturers? - See the spoiler.

Spoiler
For Biology, Chemistry, and Methods, your lecturer will be the mythical thushan. This is a man who graduated with a 99.95, a Premier's Award in ALL THREE subjects that he's lecturing in, won a silver medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad, become a published author in all three subjects and... I'll stop there. I have a word count, and I'd probably run out if I tried to explain to you how amazing Thushan is. And a damn lot of you will experience that first hand when you absorb his genius at his lectures.

Our English lecturer is none other than lauren9460. After the AMAZING things she's done on the forums (constant essay correction, helpful tips and tricks, writing practice exams), the lady who scored 60/60 in the English exam hardly needs any introduction. I considered doing the English lecture myself for all of about three fiftieths of a second before I realised that would be stupid, because you simply can't find someone more suited to lecture English than Lauren.

Health? yearningforsimplicity. Otherwise known as Farween. Farween graduated with a 48 in HHD and Psychology, and just recently completed a Bachelor of Psychology through the University of Melbourne. She's a published HHD author, a very experienced tutor and an experienced lecturer. Health students are in for a treat.

Physics? Alwin. The man who took two university extension subjects just for fun. He's a monster. But, he's not some super-freak. He's the coolest dude you'll ever meet. So cool, he'll probably throw a ball at your face just to illustrate the laws of motion. *Only half joking. 49 in Physics, 48 in Methods, and a future Aerospace Engineer, Alwin was a no brainer when it came to choosing lecturers.

Specialist. Damn, you need to check out silverpixeli. Matt scored a 50 in Methods, a Premier's Award in Physics, and a 47 RAW in Specialist. He spent 2014 tutoring and also constructed a couple of lectures to deliver to his old school (just in his spare time; because he's a boss). He's continued making his brain even more amazing through the University of Melbourne's Bachelor of Science, where he learns about things that, quite frankly, I'll never understand. You will though, once you've been to his lecture.

Business. Unfortunately, our Business lecturer doesn't have a profile that I can link to. That being said, I started the search for lecturers on ATAR Notes, so the fact that I thought of Karly as a Business lecturer before anyone else says something about how valuable she is to ATAR Notes, and how valuable she is to Business students. Bright and bubbly (after a coffee), Karly has a plethora of tricks on how to remember concepts, answer ten mark questions, and how to construct your answers properly... and more. A 48 in Business Management and start-up business experience, Karly is the ideal person to learn from.

When and Where?

Lectures are going to be held at the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus from the 12th of January to the 27th.

I think I've given you guys all the information you need at the moment. If there are any more questions, please feel free to leave a comment below :).

Note: Seating capacity is limited, and we expect it to run out very quickly. We're not just saying that. They're free lectures by amazing lecturers... people are going to register fast. Tell your close friends so they don't miss out, and make sure you register ASAP through THIS LINK!

Thanks guys, happy studies!~~

I really love the fact that a lot of atarnotes's initiatives are aimed at making resources accessible to people who can't afford the (pretty exorbitant lbr) prices charged by some of those other companies. Anything that helps to make it easier for kids at poorer/public schools to do well is fantastic, 10/10 u go atarnotes

Also I'm pretty sure I don't really need to vouch for Lauren's English skills, but just in case, she's basically the Beyoncé of English and she probably knows the course better than just about every teacher in Victoria.
2015-2017: Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) at University of Melbourne.

Ughh, I'm actually so shattered right now...

My parents have planned an overseas trip during all the lecture dates for the subjects which I do. I'm genuinely so disappointed as anything AN does is always top notch (just look at their Study Guides!)

Just wondering, will notes be distributed at these lectures? If so, would it he possible to grab a copy after the lectures? I'd be more than happy to pay money to do so! :)
The GOAL: Attain a RAW study score of 40+ in all my subjects.

Courses I would like to study in order of preference include: Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Biomedicine or Bachelor of Science.

2014: Biology [42]
2015: English Language [??] | Chemistry [??] | Physics [??] | Mathematical Methods (CAS) [??] | Specialist Mathematics [??]

Will anyone judge me if I go along to these even if I'm not repeating VCE? Because I reckon I could learn something new from them.

Ahah, I'm sure you won't be judge! We're a nice community...aren't we? :P

Though I suppose if we're being nice (the season of giving) it'd be "better" if we don't sign up, purely to give those who are doing the subject and would highly benefit the opportunity to go who are doing the subjects next year. That way, we don't take up a position.

Likewise, I was planning on signing up, but the fact I'm not going to be there, I'd hate to think I would've occupied the spot of someone else who really wanted to go.

I'm sorry - my bad joke clearly needed more joke thrown in, hahah.

These look fantastic, thanks alot people of AN for organising this!

Just a question, the dates don't seem to line up. For example, the physics lecture on the AN/lecture page says it will be on the 24th, whereas the eventbite page says it will be on the 26th?

Okay, so, in four hours, Methods, English, and Chemistry have SOLD OUT (as much as I can use that phrase for free lectures. We're obviously forced to extend places. Whether there will be an extra date to compensate or not, we're unsure and we'll update later, but yeah.. Don't stress - we've got it covered.

Edit: THERE ARE STILL PLACES AVAILABLE. We extended capacity after the sellout :)
