Engineering First Year - Coding?

How much coding are we expected to know in first year Engineering? I was told that they don't really teach you how to code and that it is expected you know at least some code to be able to keep up in class. I know I've gotten into Engineering because I got above the guaranteed ATAR, should I be learning Python or some other programming language in the time before the semester starts?
2018: English, Methods, Chemistry, Media Studio Art [49] Biology [41]
2019: Engineering (Honours)/Science @ Monash
ATAR: 96.10

I'm looking at doing Eng/Science and I would very much doubt that you're required to know any coding language. I know that there are coding electives that you can take and they seem to be extremely basic and aimed towards people with no coding experience.
2016: Biology, Physics
2017: English, Methods, Specialist, German, Chemistry

Feel free to give me a message if you need help in these subjects!!

I wouldn't stress because I talked to a guy in the computer science department during change expo and he said even the computer science degree isn't designed for people who already know how to program - you can go in with no knowledge or some knowledge and it won't really make a difference.

You don’t need to know anything but if you want you can start learning matlab. But they teach you from basics and it isn’t too hard if you keep up with everything.

I don't think that you will really need to know much coding. I personally know a little bit of Python, but what will be used in the coding unit is C++ (I think), but it will be from the very basics. Many people have no idea how to code, so both you and me will be fine. :)
