What rank should you be in order to get a 45+ in English in an average cohort? Also the same question for a 40+. What sort of exam mark should you be getting for these respective scores with a ranking of 5 out of a cohort of 25? Kindly appreciated

Well SAC scaling depends on cohort strength, but, here's what you'd approximately need on the exam if your U3&4 SACs were 100%.

43/60 = 40ish
52/60 = 46ish
57/60 = 49ish

What kind of grades for chinese 2nd lang unit 3&4 and exams do I need to get a 30+ ss in an average strength cohort? (I've been averaging above 80% in unit 3)

I honestly regret doing chinese even though I loved it before vce so if I get a 30 I would actually cry of happiness

The Deakin Study Score calc says that these results would yield a 40, however that doesn't take into account cohort so i could be a little higher or lower but most likely high 30s to low 40s

Cheers Eloise! I prefer not to use the deakin ss calc as it just converts % into the corresponding ss w/o taking into account anything else, and i feel like it might be way off and crush my dreams! With that being said it predicted me 28 for bio last year and i got a 27

Deakin study score calculator are not that off, if you get 90's throughout the year and on your exam you will land with a 40+ I must also add that 80's can still get you 40 scaled. Also can someone predict my study score? I was averaging 80's and did so bad on the exam lol.

I've looked at grade distributions but would I be fair to assume in order to achieve a 40+ in all subjects one would need to be achieving marks of 90+% and be ranked either 1st or 2nd? Would it be accurate enough to have 90% or higher as a goal for a sac or the exam and could it allow me a chance for a 40+ or would I have to be more 'harsh' and have a goal of 95% or higher to have a more realistic chance at a 40+??

Really can't tell. For example, you could be rank 10 and get a 50, or be rank 1 and get a 35. In the end, the exam is the biggest factor at play. You can always estimate the probability of something using grade distributions from previous years though, so looking at the A+ cut off mark and the graphs which correlate a certain exam score to a study score can help, but its veracity over the years will fluctuate. Sac score percentages mean next to nothing, it's your ranking that matters, and if you are rank 1 then you are the sole determinant for your study score come exam time. Definitely aim high for all sacs/exams you do, but I will tell you that you could have gotten a 50 in psych last year with less than 90% due to the sheer difficulty of the exam. Take that as you will.

90% in SACs? Well, SACs depend solely on your cohort strength and the difficulty of your SACs. e.g. if you have a really strong cohort, you don't need to rank extremely well for your SACs to scale - let's say you're in a cohort of 50 people and you're ranked 15th averaging 70%. Now, if the 14 people above you all got A+'s on the exam, then your SAC of 'only' 70% will scale up accordingly. Conversely, if the 14 people above you all got B+'s on the exam, then your SAC of 70% will scale accordingly as well.

In terms of the grading distribution, the benchmark normally used is just A+'s in all GA's for a 40 - so you'd be focussing on the exam mark you'd need for an A+.

My advice is ask someone in your school or teachers what scores your cohort got last year and what study score they got. But honestly I think 80's or 90's + doing well on exam can get you a good study score. Just remember that you need A+ or A and you can touch that 40. Good luck buddy.

Wait so since English SACs are worth 50% does that mean that it’s a lot harder to score 40+ with bad SACs?

In online learning we had SACs and I (regretfully) didn’t cheat while many others did. They emailed tutors to write their essays etc hence got 100% (And people who usually get 60% got 80s!!!) while I only got 70% (I’m usually at least 80+ I’m not sure what happened)

My cohort ranking is quite low and there is about 200 people? I doubt the SACs will scale up and I know for sure the people above me who cheated will not perform well on the exam, they’ll just perform at normal level.

So

GA1: 77/100 (haven’t gotten AA mark back so could be more)

GA2: 80/100

GA3: ??? What would I need for the exam to yield 40-45?

I know I’ve really messed up considering unit 3 is worth 30% now, I really should’ve cheated but I hate cheating :((((

Hey guys I just got my sac marks

If I'm ranked third in an average to weak cohort for methods with only 10 people, and I do better than those above me, can I still get 50 or at least a scaled 50 (raw 47-48) given they get lower than me?
