The Random Thoughts Thread

A thread for random thoughts for when you're on public transport, or just waiting around for whatever reason.

... Probably not for when you're driving.

Why is it that people insist on standing on the right side of escalators? I want to get past them, but I also don't want to engage in social interaction. This needs to be fixed.

holy shit man same. I mostly just wait but two weeks ago I tried a cough that sounded mostly real and the lad in front of me jumped a mile. Felt both bad and good.

my biggest pet peeve omg. I just can't with people like this, if they don't move after I politely say excuse me I just push past them. I might be being a bit rude, but honestly if they're the type of person that stands on the right side of the escalator then I really don't care about their opinion of me + they deserve it. (if u can't tell this is a touchy subject for me)

Dammit I thought this was going to be a thread about being in transit in life on a larger scale... I was thinking finally there would be a thread I'd fit into alongside the VCE and uni journal threads. :'(
VCE (2014): HHD, Bio, English, T&T, Methods

Uni (2021-24): Bachelor of Nursing @ Monash Clayton

Work: PCA in residential aged care

What do you all think about people bringing hot food onto the train? Y'know, maybe Viet roll, maybe maccas, something that has a scent.

Do you think this is inconsiderate?

Tbh I think that the smell of egg is inconsiderate, but I'm ok with all other foods. I've travelled with people who think this is a breach of the basic rules against public transport use.

Hmm. I'd probably feel uncomfortable eating something particularly smelly on a train, but maybe it has something to do with how packed it is. Like, if there are only a few people in (on?) the carriage, that seems more okay to me.

I reckon it's alright  tbh. Like on a peak hour train it's probably just a nono but in general I think it's fair enough for people to eat in their commute time. If it's really bad, can always change carriages. (Whereas having to change carriages for someone talking obnoxiously loudly is bs, because they should just stfu). But I think it's too much to expect people to go hungry - their best opportunity to get some food in might be on their way home, who knows!

For the most part, those starting Year 7 next year have never lived in a world without Facebook.

Hahahaha.

You know what kills me? Screaming babies.

Because on one hand I hate them, and on the other hand, I feel like a bad person for doing so. Ah, life's quandaries!

Here's a thought:

Whenever I arrive at the station and it's busy, I always form a queue in my head based on when people arrived at the station. The people who got their earliest should have first dibs, so you let them in first, people who come later should wait. Then, out of nowhere, someone new comes in and moves in front of someone who's been there longer, completely violating the imaginary queue and leaving everyone else seething with a hot rage.

Completely bonkers, but it can't just be me, surely?
