recovering from two simultaneous fails, anyone got unexpected study tips before we plunge into another semester?
Hey chemistrykind,
The study style that uni demands is so different to that in high school, and I definitely struggled a lot adapting to everything when I started uni too!! I'm not a commerce student so I don't know how helpful my insight will be, but some study tips I finds really helpful personally are:
-Making a study group and meeting every week to revise and go over the most recent content
-Doing practice questions (if they're available, if not have a go at making your own or amongst your study group)
-Memorising info is boring to me, so I like to use flashcards to help me study (you can check out quizlet, brainscape and anki for starters)
-Revisiting my lectures (reading over the notes, making my own notes/flashcards etc) within 24hrs of having listened to that lecture (research shows that there's an exponential drop in the amount of info you retain after 24hrs!)
-Spaced repetition - it's unrealistic to try and memorise all my notes in one sitting, so I like to keep up consistent revision (e.g. everyday or every few days) in the lead up to my exams
tbh I am still on the search for the 'best' study method for myself, and I definitely don't execute all those tips I've mentioned above perfectly - but these are some things that I've found to be quite good over the sems so I hope they may prove helpful to you too!
