Remember that no 3/4 will be easy, especially if you want to do well, but I like your combination of subjects, as long as you are doing them for the right reasons. If you really enjoy maths, then spec and methods actually complement each other nicely so you should really enjoy it!

Also, if you can handle spec, I don't think you will struggle with general/further. I'm a year ten student this year, and as a bonus, my teacher has got me working through general stuff "for fun". She wants me to do 3/4 next year, alongside methods and spec, and so far I have resisted. But yeah, general should be comparatively easy to grasp.

Hey guys, can someone here tell me what would you do if you started struggling in 3 vce mathematics?
(Just in case I am one of those people, the truth is you never know how you would go)

Tutoring?
Drop one?
I think dropping one would be the ideal choice because unless you are a mathematically gifted person, you would definitely find doing 3 VCE math subjects boring.

I love the subject and sometimes I do well on it, just not always. I also need math for engineering xD
Anyone here done all 3 math and can tell me their own personal experience? And please don't show me that Luke guy thing (Who juggled all 3 math) I seen it many times.

If you like the subject but struggle, try harder and study smarter.
There's probably a reason if you struggle.

There sure is and yes I lack hard work sometimes. That is a problem that I am trying to fix before VCE starts. Cuz I don't want to drag everything out till the last minute.

Like you said, definitely something you would benefit from fixing before VCE starts.

Correct.
Guys I heard only 2 math count? So that means I won't get a 10% from doing all 3?
Can someone who has done all 3 math confirm this

Only two can count in your "top four", but the third can contribute as a 10% increment. :) You can't have all three of Further, Methods and Spesh all contribute 100% to your ATAR.

Thank you and does this rule apply to all other subjects?
Like Science, English etc or is this just a math thing

This also applies to English, but nothing else. You can have 2 English in top 4, and a third one in bottom 2.

You can learn more about things like this (they're called "study groupings") here:

https://www.vtac.edu.au/results-offers/atar-explained/study-groupings.html

There are some other restrictions - it's not just for maths and English subjects. :)

Thanks for the reply guys, That was so unfair tho.
Why no science?
-Seems like the maximum only 3 of can contribute to the final Atar.

Nope. There’s actually a couple more it applies to. Check out Joseph’s link for the full range but just the top of my head some of the restrictions around subject groupings are:
- LOTEs
- History
- Visual and performing arts
And a bunch more.

I don’t do science myself but I think it’s because the areas of science cover a lot wider range of topics than something niche like history or maths.

I need to do science for a prerequisite. Engineering might require some knowledge of science. Speaking on science, does chemistry overlap with math?
