Title: brightsky's (99.95) VCE Chinese Exam Revision Book
Post by: brightsky on January 13, 2014, 02:17:20 am
Hey there!

I am currently selling copies of my VCE Chinese Exam Revision Book, which has been specifically written to assist students in their preparation for the oral and the written exam at the end of the year. I graduated from Melbourne Grammar School in 2013 with a perfect ATAR of 99.95. I completed VCE Chinese in 2011 as a year 10 student, and achieved a raw study score of 46.

My credentials also extend beyond the VCE. In 2008, I participated in the Chinese Proficiency Test (also known as the HSK) and was one of Victoria's top scorers that year. For my achievement, I was awarded a scholarship by the Hanban of the Chinese government to study in China. Moreover, in 2011, I participated in the prestigious Lu Xun Youth Literature Award Essay Competition, and was placed third overall. Click here for a copy of my essay: http://www.xjs.vic.edu.au/html/luxun/view_374.html.

The revision book is divided into three sections and features:
The revision book is officially 90 pages in length. Included in the essay section of the revision book are several essays written by my sister, Rose, who, in 2010, attained a raw study score of 50 in Chinese Second Language along with a Premier's Award. Click here for the list of 2011 Premier's Award winners: https://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/edulibrary/public/commrel/events/premiersvce/honour_role.pdf.

In order to assist you in making a more informed decision, I have included, in three separate posts below, a sample of the revision book. (I was forced to split the sample into three documents because the original pdf file was larger than 512 KB, the maximum individual size for attachments on AN. If you would like to see the sample as one pdf file, PM me with your email address and I will happily send the file to you.) It is my hope that the sample will give you a better idea of what is contained within the actual book.

I am selling the revision book at an affordable price of $60. Discounts will be given for multiple purchases (see 'Sample #1' below for the details). A delivery surcharge of $15 will apply should you wish to have the book posted to you. Included in this revision book are all the resources which I used when I did VCE Chinese, and I have no fears that the book will prove equally useful for those who are currently undertaking the subject!

If interested, please leave a message below and I will get back to you as soon as possible. We can discuss the details of the transaction over PM. For those who are doing UMEP Maths, I am also selling copies of the UMEP Mathematics Exam Revision Book. Click here for further details: brightsky's (99.95) UMEP Mathematics Exam Revision Book.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Victor

i highly recommend brightsky's VCE chinese revision booklet! i went to school with brightsky, and throughout the year he consistently provided me with essay and oral advice in order to help me succeed. as i look back, i now feel completely jealous that i did not have the opportunity to purchase such a organised, comprehensive and complete resource that would have infinitely helped me as i studied. i was fortunate to read through many of the essays brightsky is providing you with as well as parts of his oral during VCE, and i must say that i often used the structures he created and vocabulary he employed in order to improve my own essays. his chinese ability, both oral and written, is far beyond any background student i know (infinitely better than mine) and i can definitely say that this resource will provide you with a large advantage above other students (background and non-background). brightsky is responsible for a large proportion of my own chinese mark and this is a testament to how helpful this booklet will be! i advise EVERYONE studying chinese to purchase this resource, i only wish i could have...

Hey there!

I have decided to sell *all* of my VCE Chinese resources in the form of a book, specially designed to assist students in their preparation for the oral and the written exam at the end of the year. I graduated from Melbourne Grammar School in 2013 with a perfect ATAR of 99.95. I undertook VCE Chinese in 2011 as a Year 10 student, and achieved a raw study score of 46.

My credentials also extend beyond the VCE. In 2008, I participated in the Chinese Proficiency Test (also known as the HSK) and was one of Victoria's top scorers that year.

  • A complete copy of my General Conversation (over 23,000 characters in total)
  • A complete copy of my Detailed Study (over 15,000 characters in total)
  • A compilation of more than 100 essays (over 35,000 characters in total), all of which have been polished to perfection by a former VCE examiner from Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
The revision book is *officially* 90 pages in length.

It is my hope that the sample will give you a better idea of what is contained within the actual book.

I am selling the revision book at an affordable price of $60 (which roughly equates to an hour's worth of VCE Chinese tuition). Discounts will be given for multiple purchases (see 'Sample #1' below for the details). A delivery surcharge will apply should you wish to have the book posted to you. Included in this revision book are all the resources which both I and my sister used to achieve the study scores stated above, and I have no fears that the book will prove equally useful for those who are currently undertaking VCE Chinese!

If interested, please leave a message below and I will get back to you as soon as possible. We can discuss the details of the transaction over PM. I hope to hear from you soon!

Hello brightsky,
I was just wondering: is the booklet available to purchase at XJS Chinese School? I take Chinese there, and it would be quite convenient if this is so.
Thanks!

Just wanted to endorse (is that the right word haha) Brightsky's Chinese Exam Revision Book. Personally I found the book to be a tremendous help, and played a big role in helping me receive my dream score. I come from a rural underrepresented school that has never had a chinese SL score above 40 before (highest previously was around 36), and this revision book gave me the help I needed to fully prepare myself and gave me a shot at competing against the very high number of chinese students who have spoke the language at home since birth.

The revision book general conversation part contained so many questions- each with 30-40 second answers filled with useful phrases and cheng yu's that would impress examiners and show you have an interest in the language and culture. I didn't use all of these questions (as he really covered just about every single question), and have no chance of memorising that amount of answers, but there was quite a few that I used in my own general conversation (and some phrases I used as well). I didn't particularly use the detailed study section as I did Pandas instead, but it was a good gauge at how many question I needed to answer.

IMO, the example essays were probably the most useful, although I really just made use of the many phrases and structures used (e.g 利弊兼具 or 权衡利弊 or 三思而行), that I'm guessing helped my essays stand out. They really help you to create a clear formulaic approach to these essays (more than just intro-body-concl), that make what you say really clear and structured (which according to my teacher is the most important part of the essay).

There is a very sophisticated use of vocabulary used however, which may seem daunting at first (idk if theres samples on here or not), but after learning these it really helps improve your chinese. Would recommend for anyone aiming high in the subject!

NB: this was meant to be a "brief testimonial" but hope it still conveys how much this book helped me :)
