So, the other day I was watching a video on translating Harry Potter into different languages and it said that Quidditch was a blend of the game's balls: namely quaffle, bludger and snitch. I've searched a bit trying to verify it online but can't seem to find it anywhere. But it sounds so plausible... has anyone else heard this?

(btw, this was the video)

It's mentioned on here, but says its not known whether it was purposeful or not:

My favourite book was Deathly Hallows (probably an unpopular opinion, I feel). Was Goblet of Fire for a long time but I feel like the last book was actually really well-written.

Favourite character would be a toss-up between Dumbledore, Neville and Ron, I reckon.
I think DH is definitely a valid option... I agree with you, it was pretty well put together. Definitely felt distinctly different to the first six books, given her setting was completely different. DH honestly made the series what it I I feel- if you think about how genuinely difficult it would be to "close" humankind's most popular series of books, DH did a genuinely fantastic job. Perhaps a questionable epilogue - but one probably rectified by the wealth of information we've been given since (such as Luna's marriage, and so on).

Seeing JK Rowling's many naming puns (Diagon/Knockturn Alley for instance), I expect the Quidditch ball naming was intentional.

Among the books, I also like DH best - OotP has too much Harry-shouting-and-teenage-angsting for me lol.  Besides, I like dark shit :P  OotP is better in the movie though, imo.

as much as dumbledore was a great character, he's also pretty shit, because there's no reason to put a child in an abusive home (although i do understand the whole protection thing).

Hmm someone can make a single bad decision without being a shit person.  I think his motive was to do the best for Harry, whether or not he did that in the best way.  I just love how... self-confident, self-assured and self-possessed Dumbledore is?  It's so attractive and inspiring.  LOL.

I've been noticing I'm really deeply drawn to the ending of book 6 (well actually, the endings of the last four books) and listen to it over and over.

spoiler alert lol
I find something deeply relatable in Harry watching Dumbledore killed while paralysed and completely unable to act.  So often, I see friends struggling or world problems and there is nothing I can do... seeing Harry grapple with his helplessness and with the death of Dumbledore strengthens me and reminds me it's okay.  Morbidly, I appreciate how much HP deals with death and darkness, because I think about it all the time, and HP deals with it positively.

"The suddenness and completeness of death was with them like a presence." - love this quote for some reason

I love Harry Potter, but can really see some massive issues and plot holes. The one most notable is the really vague and unlikely understanding of magic and magic theory. It seems that you can you have to search to discover spells, and once you have discovered how to make a potion or a spell, you can continue to do so indefinitely. In terms of definition and understanding of magic, I really like the 'Inheritance' series by Christopher Paolini.

I 100% agree with you about the inheritence series, its so good when it comes to that understanding aspect.
Not sure what you mean by the Harry Potter issues though, i guess i just dont look into it that much?  ::)

It's just that it is very vague about magic theory. However, there is an awesome Harry Potter fan-fiction that goes very deeply into this, called "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality".
[Note: Only begin to read this if you a) are prepared to have your mind blown, b) are not too attached to the series as it is, and c) have plenty of time on your hands]
