Post by: DJing on December 04, 2012, 10:31:26 am
ok so I'm not sure this is the right board, but I was wondering if there was a way to get the atar notes atarcalc app to work?? It keeps crashing following the update :/

There's an iPhone app, I think it's this one: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/atar-notes/id442961757?mt=8

There's also the mobile site: http://vce.atarcalc.com/mobile

Hi Daniel
I was just wondering with the iPhone app, does it tell you which year the scores are being scaled in or no?
I can't seem to find another box predicting the ATAR for the other years and I don't know which year the scores are being calculated in :S

Not 100% sure - I'm not the person that developed it, and I don't have an iPhone to test it out on. I'd assume it's the newest data (as I write this, 2011 for VCE - I'm working on inserting the 2012 data).

I'm not quite sure but I think the scaling on atar calculator is a little weird. For example my chem score got scaled up to 38.64 however atar calc says it got scaled up to 38.8...the same goes with all the other subjects too.

I think that's because the atarcalc uses the figures which are given on the scaling report, and they are rounded to the nearest whole number, so the scaled scores will be a little off. That and it assumes linear scaling.

Would it be possible to make a database of raw scores and what they were scaled to?

it's an iOS app, so it should work on iphone/ipad/ipod (I think?) https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/atar-notes/id611598677?mt=8

Just going to extend on to what laseredd has just said and that it's made for iPod/iPhone usage due to the fact where you have at the bottom right hand side a magnification button to increase the overall size of the app itself (since it was made for those smaller devices). Having said that, it does work but you don't get the 'Latest' forum posts on the main screen but rather all the main-boards on the main page. Alongside there's a Notes section and the Atar Calculator on the side bar which is good to use but other than that it's a really simple app but a good one :)
