Microsoft Office - Spelling!

After screwing around with my computer for nearly two hours, I finally got it to make Australian English the default.
Would just like to know, for words such as realize/realize, which is the correct spelling for Australian English.
I think it is 'ise,' but is 'ize' also acepted by VCAA?
Microsoft office seems to think both are correct...
also, if both are correct, you are expected to remain constant with your spelling yeah?
for example, you shouldn't write realise, and then two sentences later write globalization.

clarification would be great. :)

edit: not sure, but maybe globalization is actually spelt with a 'z' haha!
maybe 'apologise' is a better example...

Someone taught me this a while ago and my memory about it is fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure that -ize is US spelling whilst -ise is Australian. Whilst both are technically correct, I'd stick to just writing -ise.

Yep, was just about to say that :P
It's better to play safe and use 's' instead of 'z', we do live in Australia

No, the Aussie version is 'globalisation', it's basically always an 's'

This is the sort of stuff we do in english language. Variation...

In Standard Australian English (The benchmark variety :P) we use -s. -z is used in the United States. We also use -c in words such as defence - defense(US). With the advent of spell-check (and globalisation in general) the -z version could become the Standard Australian variety in the next couple of decades. :(

I believe both are correct in British English but -ise is more commonly used (probably to keep it consistent with other -ise suffixes that occur in British English). Assuming Australian English follows British English, they should both be valid.

Lol, remember Microsoft is an American company, so they obviously have an American way of thinking (regardless of the variant of English being used :P)

Yeah, you can technically use either, but it's easier to just stick to one, probably the 's' version

Yep, the 'c' indicates the noun, and the 's' indicates the verb.
This is somewhat similar to advice and advise, to some extent

I just think that 'ice' is a noun so pract'ice' is a noun. Which leaves practise as a verb.

Except pronunciation. Good spot though. If you had trouble identifying which practi(c/s)e was which you could use Advise and Advice to remember.

Move into english language watchmen.
