How can I support my own learning to get ahead?

What's up everyone!

Going back to school is right around the corner, and I've decided to get really serious with year 11 and 12 to hopefully get an ATAR of 99+. I feel like my school doesn't provide many extra learning activities, it being rather small, so I just want to know what I can do. Have any of you people done well in school? What did you do to maximise your study during holidays? I would greatly appreciate any advice, and I'm sure others would certainly benefit, so please share anything with me! I'm open to anyone's tips!  :D

Thank you!  ;)

If you're a Queensland student, have a look at the syllabus on the QCAA website. It should give you a clear idea of what to look for in your upcoming senior exams and assignments. They also provide sample assignments and exams that should be of help to you.

Honestly I'd just be trying to read widely.

Like, say you're studying Chem, just try to flick through as many Chem resources as you can get your hands on. YouTube videos, textbooks, AN guides - whatever it is, just to try to get a basic understanding of some of the key concepts.

Of course, these resources may go beyond the QCE syllabus, so as above, I'd definitely recommend checking out the relevant syllabuses to kind of tailor what you're looking at mostly. :)

Hey Not1OfThem!

Firstly, welcome to the forums!  ;D Thanks for your advice, I've just printed what will be covered in year 11 and 12 for my subjects, and been studying for the first unit for each. I've recently discovered the past exams so I'll put those into good use too!  ;)

Thanks a bunch! :)

YES! Something I do all the time is read maths/science books - for pleasure but also for school. I've been watching a few YouTube videos to help me with the phospholipid bilayer (very interesting!) which has really helped.

Thanks for your advice Joseph41! :)

Hey Twisty314,

Great to see a fellow Queenslander! Just wondering, what past papers are you using? So far I've been using the HSC past papers because I find them relatively similar to the QCE syllabus. Feeling slightly annoyed we're the guinea pigs and don't have past papers or any idea what subjects will likely scale.

Cheers,

Hey qldpc,

Welcome to the forums. :) Great to have you here. Nice subject mix - are you in Year 11 at the moment?

It does suck a bit with the entire system changing, but hey, I guess you're not in this alone!

Hey Joseph41,

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yep, I'm currently in Year 11. Aha yeah it does give me reassurance that 30,000+ people are in the same boat.

Before 2020, would you know if ATAR Notes will have QCE notes or resources available?

Thanks :),

Yeah, nice! What are your favourite/least favourite subjects atm?

Yep, we'll be hitting you up with some great QCE resources. :) Pretty much everything we have for VCE/HSC, we'll be doing for QCE, so you have a lot to look forward to. 🙌

Until then, I really encourage you to ask any questions you have for your subjects in our question threads:

> Accounting
> Chemistry
> Economics
> English
> Methods
> Physics

And if you're keen, you could make a QCE Journey Journal, too!

Feel free to let us know if you have literally any questions at all about anything QCE-related. :)

Oh cool! So keen for it  ;D - even looking at HSC and VCE resources has helped heaps.

Right now I'm really enjoying methods, chem, and physics. Feels really good to be able to finally break off into specialised sciences.
Least favourite atm has probably gotta be accounting and eco. Accounting just due to the fact that our textbooks haven't arrived yet. Eco, on the other hand, is repetitive. My school's 'sister school' now takes classes with us for certain subjects and because of this, we're relearning old content the rest of us could've breezed through.

All good though,
