Title: Semester One Timetable Thread [2019]
Post by: Sine on February 06, 2019, 06:38:34 pm
Timetables were out yesterday for most units. How do they look?

I don't think I got many of my 1st preferences but it still turned out ok. Only 4 days but still ~24 contact hours.

Got unlucky with my timetable- for half the semester, I have a 5-day week, where one of those days only has 1 hour of workshop :(

At least Parkville has their timetables nice and early for once :D

I only have to show up 2 days (the rest are lectures). Granted, this means I have no breaks from 8am-2pm on Tuesday but I'm very happy with my timetable :)

How hard does everyone think it will be to manage back-to-back lectures/tutorials? I've got a few (see attached timetable) and I've just realised that it might be hard getting from one lecture to the next on time...

EDIT
Also, while I'm here, some of my lectures still don't have anything in Allocate+. Is this still normal?

Thanks  :D

I reckon you'll be sweet. Can't speak for your units specifically but I'd imagine most would finish five minutes before the hour and start five minutes after - or has that changed recently?

P.S. Has Monash changed the way it visually represents timetables? This looks unfamiliar to me.

I think your timetable is fine - you should be able to manage those back to backs. Your biggest run of lectures/workshops is 4 hours straight.
Lectures/Workshops run from the hour e.g. 12.00 to 10 minutes before the hour e.g. 12.50 that gives you 10 mins to get to your next class.

In my experience I've always got my lectures straight away - could be the lectures doesn't run in the first week?

Cheers Joseph. I think all my back-to back 'clashes' involve at least one broadcasted lecture anyway so it should be all g.

Not sure. Just generated this one in Allocate+

MY BAD
Just looked at the "late" units again and realised that they're my second semester units...

Do you know the rationale behind changing it from five past to the hour until five to the hour? I do have a vague recollection of that change occurring (hence hesitation in my post earlier), but don't know much about it.

Nope, no idea why they changed it. Even late last year I think some lecturers last year were still uncertain about it - I had lecturers late in semester two coming in on the hour or even before that but waiting till 5 mins past to start lecturing.

My timetable isn’t the best. I have a four day week (at least I have Friday off!) but I have an 11am lecture on Mondays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays I have 10am starts, and Thursday’s I have four hours of back to back tutorials (originally 5 hours but I was able to de allocate one tutorial and change it to Wednesday).
