How To Avoid Sounding Too Mechanical In Language Analysis

Hey Guys,
My teacher recently said my language analysis essays are sounding too "wooden" and mechanical.  Essentially what I tend to do is I talk about a technique then I talk about how the reader might respond in the same cycle throughout each of my body paragraphs. I know there are ways such as varying sentence lengths which could help the writing sound less cumbersome but are there other ways besides mixing up sentence lengths to enlighten a language analysis essay? Thanks!!!
